Chapter 12 Artificial Star Dew

Chapter 12 Artificial Star Dew
"Oh? With your vision, Madam, you would actually let a candidate apprentice serve as your assistant?"

Holt was actually interested when he heard Mrs. Allen's reply, and he looked at Ron with interest:

"It seems you have found another good seedling."

He took out a small bottle from his bosom:

"This is some artificial star dew, a welcome gift for the new members. Although its effect is far inferior to real natural star dew, it can still help improve mental strength."

Ron was about to thank her when Mrs. Allen took the bottle.
"Then I'll thank Apprentice Holt on his behalf. However, the child still needs to take his time. It's too early to use this now."

Seeing this, Holt just smiled faintly and said nothing more. He put all the purchased herbs into a special narrow-mouthed cloth bag at his waist and turned to leave.

The gray-blue robe disappeared at the door in an instant, as if it had never appeared.

It wasn't until that special magical fluctuation completely dissipated that Mrs. Allen turned to look at him:

"You're lucky, kid. Holt is a quasi-wizard who's about to be promoted. The things he has are not simple."

She carefully put away the crystal bottle:
"This bottle of 'artificial star dew' is made from the essence of fallen stars. Although it's not as good as naturally condensed ones, at this level of apprentices, there is no better potion than this."

"I'll keep it for you first and return it to you after you pass the apprenticeship assessment."

She glanced at Ron and said, "With your current strength, it's not a good thing to have a potion of this level in your hands."

Ron nodded without any objection. He understood the simple truth that an innocent man is guilty of possessing a treasure.

"Oh right." Mrs. Allen didn't want to let him go so quickly: "How did you activate the properties of that star herb just now?"

Ron stopped what he was doing and told the truth based on his own understanding:

"When I was organizing it, I found that the fluctuations it emitted were very similar to the spiritual power during meditation. So I tried to place it with a similar rhythm."

"I see." A rare smile appeared on the old witch's face, which was full of wrinkles and scary.
"It seems that you do have some talent in the perception of mental power. No wonder Holt is interested in you."

"Help me sort these evening primroses."

After the chat, Mrs. Allen pointed to the herbs in the corner and began to assign him tasks:
“Remember, arrange them according to picking time.”

Ron nodded in agreement. While sorting, he casually mentioned the dark-cloaked man he saw hurriedly leaving the dormitory area this morning.

"Oh, that's the errand boy who's responsible for delivering letters and miscellaneous items to the apprentices. I heard he's related to the royal family there."

Mrs. Allen said without looking up, "I often travel back and forth between the mortal realm and here."

Ron silently noted down this information. Speaking of which, the number of magic stone fragments delivered at the beginning of each month was always different.

It was seven dollars last month, but only six dollars this month.

This is strange, because the father in my memory is a serious and somewhat rigid person.

After he succeeded his grandfather as earl, there has never been a single silver coin error in the manor's accounts.

If he had arranged for someone to deliver the magic stone fragments, there wouldn't be different numbers.

………………

In the Kingdom of Farouk, in Earl Ralph's study, the firelight cast the man's shadow on the wall, making him appear particularly tall.

"Here are the ten magic stone fragments for this month."

He handed a carefully sealed leather bag to the butler and said, "As usual, have Mr. Hawkins take it to the Black Mist Jungle." The butler took the bag and felt the heavy weight inside. "Master, have you mortgaged the vineyard east of the manor?"

Earl Ralph did not deny that last year's plague caused a poor harvest, and coupled with the expenses of several other heirs, the estate was no longer able to make ends meet.

But he had to ensure that he could send enough resources to Ron every month. In a place like the Black Mist Jungle, it would be impossible to move forward without magic stone fragments.

"I neglected to discipline that child back then," the count said, standing at the window, gazing at the withered wheat fields in the distance. "Now I can only do my best to help him through this difficult time."

The butler stepped back, put the leather bag away, and placed it in the highest-standard storage room in the manor.

A few days later, when the messenger, Mr. Hawkins, arrived as usual, put the leather bag into his arms, a greedy glint flashed in his eyes.

………………

Mrs. Allen walked to the shelf in the corner and took out a cloth bag:
"That's all for today. These are some common invigorating herbs. They're extra compensation for your work."

"Thank you, Mrs. Allen."

"By the way..." Mrs. Allen said as he was about to leave, "Come a little earlier tomorrow. I'm going to teach you how to make some simple potions."

When I walked out of the herbal medicine store, the morning mist had already been dispelled by the sun.

Ron thought back to everything that happened today, feeling both surprised and a little worried.

The opportunities this job brought far exceeded his expectations, but it also meant attracting more attention.

When Ron returned to the dormitory, he found Andre waiting outside his door.

"How was it? Did the first day go well?" Andre asked with a smile, but there was some worry in his eyes.

Ron did not answer immediately. Instead, he opened the door to make sure no one was around, and then briefly recounted what had happened today.

"Star Dew?!" Andre gasped, "Could that senior apprentice be..."

He suddenly lowered his voice: "Lord Holt?"

Seeing Ron's puzzled look, Andre explained:

"He is one of the few advanced apprentices in our school who has demonstrated exceptional talent in potions. He is also said to have made significant contributions to the research and application of stellar orbits."

"But." He hesitated to speak.

"what happened?"

"Nothing." Andre shook his head. "Just reminding you to be careful. Getting attention from others is a good thing, but it also means..."

Ron understood what he meant. In this world dominated by wizards, anything special could be dangerous.

"By the way," Andre changed the subject, "I'm going to start my second workout this afternoon. Are you ready?"

Ron nodded and took out the herbs given by the store manager from the bag: "These should help."

While sorting the herbs, he was thinking about today's gains and the increase in his skill experience points.

Whether it was the perception of the "rhythm" of medicinal herbs or the conversations with Holt and Mrs. Allen, they all gave him a deeper understanding of the world.
