Chapter 129 Ogre Mage
Chapter 129 Ogre Mage
"Lizardman, we are just passing by." Ron said calmly:
"We don't intend to cause trouble, and we don't have anything valuable. It would be better for everyone if we could just get out of the way."
The Lizardman leader let out a shrill laugh:
"Nothing valuable? Then what's that on your neck? My tongue can sense the energy fluctuations it emits."
Ron then realized that he had accidentally worn the green leaf brooch given to him by Ailan, and that it did indeed contain a trace of natural energy.
"Last chance, humans." The lizardman leader threatened, the scimitar in his hand flashing with a cold light:
"Hand over your valuables and I'll spare your lives."
Ron took a deep breath, and his mental power began to flow through his body:
"It seems the negotiations have failed, Andre, are you ready?"
"I'm getting impatient." Andre's eyes had turned completely golden, and scales were faintly visible on the surface of his body.
The lizardman leader roared and raised his knife to signal his men to attack.
At this critical moment, Ron took the first step.
"Sonic shock!"
Invisible energy waves shot out from Ron's palm, piercing through the air at astonishing speed and hitting the three lizardmen in the front.
Those creatures didn't even have time to raise their shields before they were hit by the invisible shock wave.
His body flew back several meters as if hit by a huge hammer, and hit the wall heavily, dark green blood immediately flowing out of his mouth and nose.
Then, Ron shook the wooden staff in his hand, and it instantly returned to its original shape as an ironwood sword. He rushed towards the lizardman on the right wing like lightning.
The sword shines like water, and every swing carries a precise and deadly edge.
"Ch..."
The sword blade slashed across the throats of the two lizardmen, and the clean cut hardly splattered any blood.
The two creatures fell down with incredible expressions on their faces before they could even make a sound.
At the same time, Andre was not to be outdone.
He took a deep breath, and the red blood dragon blood in his body was fully activated, and dense red scales instantly appeared on his chest.
—Dragon Breath!
A stream of blazing flame burst out of Andre's mouth, transforming into a raging line of fire that rushed straight towards the group of lizards.
The flames were so hot that the air was distorted by the heat waves.
The remaining three lizardmen were engulfed by the flames before they could dodge, and they kept screaming miserably in the continued high temperature burning.
The entire battle lasted only a few seconds, and all eight Lizardmen warriors were knocked down, leaving charred and headless bodies everywhere, with no one left alive.
"These guys are too outrageous."
Andre looked at the corpse on the ground, smoke coming out of his mouth and said disappointedly: "I thought it would be a bit challenging."
Ron squatted down to examine the body of the Lizardman leader and found a strange mark: a spider-shaped tattoo on the inside of its left arm.
"It seems this is not an ordinary robbery." He pointed at the tattoo and said:
"This is most likely Maura's mark. I can sense the magic within it, which suggests she controls it. I don't think mercenaries like these would die for their master."
Andre leaned in to observe, a trace of thought flashing in his eyes: "Spider. Old Spider Mora?"
"Very likely." Ron stood up and dusted off his hands.
"It seems Otto was right. Mora really does like to 'test' visitors."
The two continued on their way, becoming more alert.
There are almost no pedestrians in this section of Lizard Alley. The dark and damp alley is flanked by dilapidated buildings. Occasionally, you can hear some rustling sounds, which I don't know whether they are from rats or some other creatures.
After walking for about ten minutes, heavy footsteps suddenly came from the front, and the ground shook.
"Be careful." Ron stopped immediately and spread his mental power to detect the situation ahead.
"A big guy is coming." Andre said vigilantly, holding the hilt of the sword, ready for battle.
A moment later, a huge figure appeared at the corner ahead.
It was an ogre that was three meters tall, with unhealthy gray-green skin and covered with bumps and scars.
The most striking thing about it is its head - it is disproportionately large, with a huge single eye on its forehead and covered with mysterious tribal tattoos.
It was dressed in a rough animal hide uniform and held a stout staff with a gemstone gleaming with purple light inlaid on the end.
"Ogre Mage," Ron confirmed in a low voice, his eyes becoming serious. "This guy is much more dangerous than an ordinary ogre."
The ogre mage let out a low roar, and a purple light flashed in the single eye on his forehead:
"Human, I can sense a special aura about you. The Master is very interested in you."
It waved its staff, and the gem on the end of the staff shone brightly, and a beam of purple energy shot out, hitting Ron and Andre directly.
"Be careful!" Ron shouted, and at the same time, golden-red energy condensed around him and quickly expanded into a halo.
"Ring of Glory!"
The golden and red halo met the purple energy beam and collided in the air, producing a dazzling flash and a deafening explosion.
The shock wave cracked the nearby broken walls, sending rocks flying everywhere.
"Such a strong magic power"
Ron took a step back to avoid the aftermath of the opponent's energy beam. His own energy output was obviously inferior to the opponent's:
"No wonder even senior apprentices don't dare to provoke them easily."
The ogre mage seemed to be shocked by Ron's counterattack, but soon he roared manically, and the tribal tattoos on his body began to flash ominously.
The single eye turned blood red, the surrounding air began to distort, and circles of distorted energy ripples spread out in all directions.
"Mental attack!" Ron immediately recognized this attack method and quickly built a mental barrier, while reminding Andre:
"Protect your consciousness, it's trying to interfere with our spirit!"
Andre clenched his teeth, sweat dripping from his forehead, clearly resisting the invisible mental shock:
"This guy is much stronger than I thought."
Seeing that the mental attack had limited effect, the ogre mage changed his strategy again.
It stuck its staff into the ground and began to chant an obscure spell.
The ground shook, and gravel and dust began to condense, forming three earth and stone giants, each more than five meters tall, emitting rich elemental energy.
"Go! Tear them apart!" The ogre mage commanded three earth and stone giants to rush towards Ron and Andre.
"I'll deal with these stone men, and you take care of that ogre!" Andre shouted to Ron, while at the same time trying his best to activate the dragon blood in his body. He seemed to be wrapped in crimson scales.
Ron nodded, his eyes becoming extremely focused.
“It’s time to go all out.”
Mental power exploded instantly, like an invisible storm sweeping through the body.
The ogre mage seemed to sense danger, and a trace of fear flashed in his one eye.
It waved its staff and formed an energy shield in an attempt to protect itself.
"Mental interference!"
Ron suddenly activated his mental field, and an invisible ripple erupted in all directions with him as the center.
The shockwaves pierced through the air and struck the ogre mage's spiritual core.
This move was originally used by wizard apprentices specifically against intelligent creatures.
The energy shield was easily penetrated by the impact of the mental ring. The ogre mage let out a painful howl, his huge body staggered back a few steps, and his staff slipped from his hand.
Its eyes were filled with disbelief, as if it couldn't understand why its defense was broken so easily.
But Ron's attack did not stop.
He followed the mental interference and guided the light and fire elements in his body to condense.
"Ring of Glory, maximum power!"
The halo formed this time was three times larger than before, with a diameter of six meters. Golden-red energy danced on the ring, flashing dangerous light like a living thing.
The halo suddenly scattered out and penetrated the ogre mage's body at an astonishing speed.
Unlike ordinary Ring of Glory, Ron mobilized more magic power in this attack. Although its efficiency was far inferior to the super magic skills of formal wizards, it undoubtedly greatly increased its power.
The moment the halo passed through his body, the ogre mage's body seemed to be ignited from the inside, and golden-red energy could be vaguely seen flowing in his blood vessels under his skin.
Its huge eyes lost focus in an instant, and its mouth opened wide, but no sound came out.
A figure flashed in front of the ogre mage like a ghost, the ironwood sword in his hand emitting a cold light.
——Dawn Cross exceeds the limit!
The sword light streaked across the night sky like a meteor, so fast that its trajectory was almost invisible.
A perfect cross-shaped cut appeared on the ogre mage's chest and neck. The cut was so neat that it seemed as if it had been measured with a ruler.
The ogre mage's expression was frozen in shock and fear, and his huge body slowly fell to the ground, crashing to the ground and stirring up a cloud of dust.
The light in its eyes quickly dimmed, and its vitality disappeared in an instant.
The three earth and stone giants also lost their energy support the moment their master died and collapsed into a pile of lifeless rubble.
Andre was breathing heavily and was hit in many places by stones, but he was basically fine.
"This is shocking!" Andre looked at the corpse of the ogre mage, his eyes full of shock.
"You ended the fight almost instantly."
Ron put away his sword and said calmly, "A head-on confrontation would consume too much energy. The best strategy is to surprise the enemy and kill them with one strike."
He walked over to the body of the ogre mage, picked up the staff, and carefully examined the purple gem on the end of the staff.
"Energy crystal, still retains some energy."
He commented, casually disassembling the staff and putting away the energy crystals separately, "It might be helpful for my future research."
It's a pity that these wild spellcasters only use crude spells that they have naturally awakened, otherwise he could have collected a few more spell models.
Andre looked back at the road he had come from:
"We've already taken out over a dozen Lizardmen warriors and an Ogre Mage who's strong enough to rival a high-level apprentice. That guy must have some mental issues, sending so many elite thugs here like they were sending them to their deaths..."
"I don't think it will end so easily." Ron nodded and continued walking forward.
"But no matter what, I must meet that old woman today and find out why she attacked us."
As the two continued to move forward, the surrounding environment became increasingly dark and eerie.
Some spider-web-like patterns can be vaguely seen on the wall, and the air is filled with an ancient and mysterious atmosphere.
After turning the last corner, an ancient brick and stone building appeared before our eyes.
There was a faded wooden sign hanging above the door with the simple words "Maze Pawn Shop" engraved on it.
"We're here." Ron took a deep breath and observed his surroundings vigilantly: "Stay alert, this place is full of weirdness."
The two approached the pawnshop cautiously and pushed open the rickety-looking wooden door.
Inside the door was a dim space, with all kinds of strange objects piled everywhere:
Faded portraits, broken sculptures, rusty weapons, and dusty jewelry fill the air with an ancient and mysterious atmosphere.
"Is anyone there?" Ron called softly, his mental power alertly detecting the surroundings.
He was answered by a slight noise coming from behind the curtain in the corner.
The curtain was gently drawn aside, and a hunched figure slowly walked out - it was the old woman with unhealthy yellow skin.
"What a rare guest."
The old woman's voice was dry and hoarse, like the friction of tree bark:
"Young wizard apprentice and bloodline knight. I've lived in the Black Mist Jungle for so many years, and I've rarely seen a combination like yours."
Ron and Andre watched the old woman warily, not letting their guard down.
"Are you Maura?" Ron asked directly.
The old woman gave an almost toothless smile:
"Yes, children, I am Old Spider Mora. It seems you already know my name, yet you still ventured here. You are very brave."
Ron looked directly into Maura's sunken eyes:
"The ambush in Lizard Alley last time, as well as the lizardmen and ogre mages on the road today, were all arranged by you, right?"
Maura's smile widened, a flicker of appreciation in her eyes. "Clever boy. Yes, those are my little 'greetings'."
"Greetings?" Andre sneered, his eyes gleaming with gold. "You call that a greeting?"
