Chapter 141 Ranking Up
Chapter 141 Ranking Up
“Master, we have a guest.” Ailan’s voice interrupted his meditation.
Ron frowned slightly; he hadn't arranged for any visitors today: "Who is it?"
"She was a young woman in a blue dress who introduced herself as Mrs. Allen's new assistant."
Ailan replied, her tone carrying a barely perceptible wariness.
Ron was somewhat surprised, then he remembered the two new assistants he had met at the herbal medicine shop.
He straightened his robes and walked towards the front hall: "Please invite her in."
As he entered the front hall, a delicate fragrance wafted towards him.
A young girl in a light blue dress is standing by the window, sunlight streaming through the window and casting a graceful silhouette on her.
Hearing footsteps, the girl turned around, revealing a delicate and beautiful face:
It was Lilia, but she was completely different from her simple appearance at the herbal medicine shop yesterday. At this moment, she was radiant and almost unrealistically beautiful.
"Lord Ralph, I apologize for disturbing you." Lilia bowed slightly, her voice soft and pleasant.
“I am Lilia, Mrs. Allen’s new assistant. I had the pleasure of meeting you yesterday.”
Ron nodded, his expression calm: "I remember you. I wonder what brings you here today?"
Lilia lowered her head slightly, displaying just the right amount of shyness and humility:
“I… I would like to request to work as an assistant in your workshop to learn more about potion-making.”
She cautiously raised her eyes, observing Ron's reaction:
"Mrs. Allen often mentions your achievements, saying that you are the most talented student she has ever taught. I think that I would benefit greatly from your guidance."
Ron raised an eyebrow slightly but did not respond immediately.
He keenly sensed that there must be a reason behind this sudden request.
In the unique environment of the Black Fog Jungle, he has developed a habit of remaining vigilant against unexpected events.
"Aren't you studying under Mrs. Allen right now?"
Ron asked calmly, "Why did you come here again?"
Lilia seemed to have anticipated this problem; she sighed softly, a look of worry flashing in her eyes:
"Mrs. Allen's resources are limited, and Fina and I can only do basic work. I've heard that you have your own workshop and are conducting some more advanced research..."
She hesitated for a moment, then added, "And, I... have some personal reasons for wanting to leave there for a while."
Ron watched her intently, subtly employing his "supernatural perception" ability.
His observations of her talents were the same as when he was at the herbal medicine shop yesterday. What caught his attention was the peculiar energy fluctuation emanating from the girl.
That was clearly the effect of some kind of charm potion; although its potency was weak, its intention was obvious.
This woman's motives are definitely not pure...
Ron understood, but didn't expose him. Instead, he continued to ask:
"Do you have any special skills? My workshop already has people managing the daily affairs, so I don't really need ordinary assistants."
A flicker of panic crossed Lilia's eyes, but she quickly regained her composure:
"I have some experience in handling potion ingredients and basic recipes, though not much, but I learn very quickly."
She paused for a moment, then added:
"In addition, I am skilled in housework and cooking. Before coming to the Black Mist Jungle, I learned etiquette and housekeeping in a noble family."
Ron nodded thoughtfully.
Lilia's special talent is indeed precious; if properly nurtured, her future potential is limitless.
The main reason was that he happened to be short of an apprentice at that time, someone to whom he could receive "favors".
He had previously tried to teach Ailan some knowledge of mysticism and potions.
Although the tree spirit was quite perceptive, it did not bestow any favor upon him. Perhaps this rule of favor is limited to those within the wizarding system.
"I can let you help out in the workshop for now."
Ron finally decided, "But there are a few rules that must be followed."
A look of delight flashed in Lilia's eyes, and she nodded quickly: "Of course, Lord Ralph, please give your instructions."
"First, no one may enter the experimental areas within the workshop without permission; second, everything seen or heard must not be disclosed to outsiders; finally..."
Ron's tone turned serious: "I expect you to tell me honestly the real reason you're here."
Lilia's expression stiffened slightly, then she lowered her eyes: "Actually, I... I'm avoiding someone."
Her voice lowered, tinged with fear:
“There’s a mid-level apprentice named Augecaines who has been… eyeing me. I’ve heard he already has three female slaves, and they all met tragic ends. I don’t want to be the next one.”
Ron listened expressionlessly, showing neither sympathy nor anger.
"So you chose me as your protector?"
Lilia nodded gently, her eyes filled with tears, and this was not feigned:
“I know this is presumptuous, but your strength and status are enough to prevent him from making any rash moves. I promise I will do my best and will not cause you any trouble.”
Ron was silent for a moment, then finally spoke:
“I can offer you shelter, but only if you are genuinely interested in studying and working, and not for any other purpose.”
Lilia breathed a sigh of relief and nodded quickly: "Of course, I promise I will do my best!"
“Ailan.” Ron turned to the tree spirit beside him: “Take Lilia to the small room in the backyard to settle in, and then tell her the basic rules of the workshop.”
Ailan nodded, the vines swaying gently: "Yes, Master."
The tree spirit didn't seem to be in a very high mood, and its response seemed to be a beat slower than usual.
After the two left, Ron stood alone by the window, pondering this sudden turn of events.
"It doesn't matter. If anyone dares to pry into my research results, I can just bury them in the yard as fertilizer... Judging from what Mrs. Allen said yesterday, she seems to have given me full control over what to do with them."
Ron shook his head, turned around and went back into the lab to continue his research.
………………
At the same time, in a secluded meeting room in the central tower of the school.
Soren Griffiths and Eunice Seraphine are having a private conversation.
"So, you've noticed that little guy named Ron too?"
Yuni toyed with a crystal in her hand, her eyes sparkling with amusement.
Soren nodded, tapping his fingers lightly on the table:
"His talent is truly extraordinary, and his rate of progress is astonishing. I have never seen anyone master so much knowledge and skills in such a short period of time."
"It's not just a matter of speed."
Yuni added, "What's most surprising is that he seems to have extraordinary talent in multiple areas. Whether it's mental control, elemental affinity, or potion-making, he performs like a seasoned veteran."
"Moreover, according to my observation, he has also successfully activated some kind of bloodline ability."
Soren narrowed his eyes: "This well-rounded development model is very rare; most apprentices focus on one or two areas."
Yuni put down the crystal: "Do you know who this reminds me of?" Soren nodded slightly: "Corinna's student, Trish. Although she is not as well-rounded as Ron, her growth rate is equally astonishing."
The two exchanged a glance, both showing understanding.
"Do you think he might have other special talents?" Soren asked.
Yuni pondered for a moment: "'Pharmacological Resonance' is indeed a rare talent, but it's hard to explain his astonishing progress in all areas, unless..."
“Unless he has an even greater hidden talent or ability,” Soren continued, “or he used some unconventional means.”
The two fell silent, each pondering the implications of this possibility.
Finally, Sauron broke his silence:
"In any case, his potential cannot be ignored, and we should adjust his ranking in the candidate wizard sequence."
Yuni nodded in agreement: "We're currently in nineteenth place. I suggest we move up at least two places to get into the top seventeen."
Why not just aim for the top 15?
Soren proposed, "We can formally raise this suggestion at the candidate wizard sequence meeting in two weeks."
Yuni hesitated slightly: "The top fifteen is an important dividing line. Are you sure he has reached that level?"
Soren smiled. "Don't forget, we've all received quite a bit of 'favor' from him. Wouldn't it be a waste not to nurture talent like that sooner?"
After a moment of contemplation, Yuni finally nodded: "Alright, I'll support your suggestion, but..."
A hint of wariness flashed in her eyes: "Corinna seems to have also shown interest in him, which could create some... competition."
Soren's smile remained composed.
“Competition is common, but true geniuses will always be discovered. I believe that Ron Ralph’s future will be even more exciting than we imagine.”
………………
As night falls, the workshop is brightly lit.
The familiar big-mouthed parrot flew in through the open window and handed Ron a letter.
He smiled faintly, looking at the ranking improvement shown in the booklet that had been sent to him, as expected.
I fed the messenger the honey I had prepared, and it responded with a grateful chirp.
In a small room in the backyard, Lilia sat on the edge of the bed, gently stroking the simple dwelling she had just furnished.
Although the conditions were only slightly better than her room in the trainee apprentice dormitory, at least it was safe and clean.
Most importantly, they were free from Keynes's threat.
She changed out of the elaborate dress she had carefully prepared and put on the ordinary work clothes that Ailan had prepared for her.
Looking at her reflection in the mirror, now dressed simply, Lilia sighed softly.
Ailan had just explained the rules to her, the strictest of which was that she was not allowed to enter any experimental area without permission, especially the rooms on the second floor.
"It seems I'll need some more time to fully integrate here," Lilia murmured to herself, a determined glint in her eyes.
"But it's okay, I have plenty of patience."
She took a small bottle of medicine out of her bag and shook it gently.
This is a calming potion she made herself, which helps her fall asleep peacefully in unfamiliar environments.
"Starting tomorrow, it's a completely new life." Lilia took a sip of the potion, lay down on the bed, and closed her eyes.
Whatever the future holds, at least for now, she has found a temporary safe haven.
For someone like her, being able to get through a day safely is already a great stroke of luck.
………………
The first rays of morning sunlight streamed through the window and fell on the floor of the simple bedroom. Lilia was already awake and sitting by the window, combing her long hair.
This is her third day at Ron's Workshop, and every day she tries to rediscover her own value and identity.
She had already informed Mrs. Allen of her whereabouts, but the old woman was not surprised by her choice.
She simply reminded her to study hard with Ron, but Fina was actually a little reluctant to part with her.
Yesterday, Ailan assigned her the task of organizing the medicinal herb inventory, and the complicated names and properties of those herbs gave her a headache.
"I must do better today," Lilia murmured to herself in the small mirror, a rare determination in her eyes.
When she first arrived here, she had the idea of throwing herself into the arms of powerful people and currying favor with them, but her experiences over the past few days have gradually changed her mind.
Ron was neither cold nor affectionate towards her, always maintaining a proper distance, which surprised her greatly.
In her past experiences, almost every man who was faced with her beauty showed some degree of desire.
Ron, however, seemed completely unmoved, his eyes only fixed on potions and supernatural knowledge.
More importantly, she discovered that Ron's strength was far more unfathomable than the rumors suggested.
Yesterday evening, Lilia happened to see Ron practicing elemental manipulation in the backyard.
With a gentle stroke of the fingertips, a golden-red halo shone brightly like a miniature sun, its power astonishing.
Such control over elements is something that even some highly skilled apprentices who receive individual instruction might only reach a similar level of.
"I must seize this opportunity and study hard..."
Lilia took a deep breath, got up, straightened her clothes, and prepared to start a new day.
When she arrived at the workshop’s main hall, she found Ron already waiting there, with various potion ingredients and tools laid out on the long table in front of him.
"Good morning, Lord Ralph," Lilia greeted him respectfully with a bow.
Good morning, Lilia.
Ron nodded in response: "Today I want to teach you some basic potion knowledge and see how you learn."
Lilia's eyes lit up: "Really? Thank you!"
Ron smiled slightly: "No need for excessive thanks. Teaching students with potential is also beneficial to the teacher."
Over the next few hours, Ron patiently explained the core concepts of basic potion-making and some simple recipes.
Unlike Mrs. Allen's strict and direct teaching style, Ron focused more on guiding thinking, often using questions and demonstrations to help Lilia understand complex concepts.
"You see, evening primrose and silver star vine seem to have conflicting properties on the surface, but if they are mixed in a certain proportion and an appropriate amount of stabilizer is added, a unique synergistic effect can be created."
Ron explained and demonstrated how to handle the materials.
Lilia observed and learned intently, occasionally asking questions.
