Cang's Ramblings
Chapter 1503 Review of "The Eagle and Hound of the Immortal Dynasty"
Chapter 1503 Review of "The Eagle and Hound of the Immortal Dynasty"
Today I'd like to recommend a highly-rated novel with over 10,000 subscribers.
"The Eagles and Hounds of the Immortal Dynasty" by Pingceng.
Recommended reason:
The author, Pingceng, has written many books, including "I'm Just an Actor," "The Die-Hard Wei Junzi," and "Speedy Cultivation!" His works cover a wide range of genres, including urban fiction, light novels, science fiction, and fantasy.
The currently serialized novel, "The Eagle and the Hound of the Immortal Dynasty," has reached 101 million words. It achieved 100,000 favorites in December, and successfully reached the milestones of "Featured" and "10,000 Subscriptions" last year. It's currently receiving significant promotion, and both the data and word-of-mouth are very positive. In terms of monthly ticket rankings, it's currently ranked 69th, which is quite good.
I've also glanced at the story, and it's not quite what I initially expected.
The synopsis only reveals that it's about a detective in a celestial dynasty, with ruthless officials and extraordinary individuals in the court. The protagonist has a special talent called "Heavenly Eye Detective," which allows him to uncover others' secrets. Beyond that, there's nothing particularly outstanding. However, after reading it, you'll realize that the book is just a facade; it's actually about power struggles and interpersonal relationships, with cultivation being secondary.
The protagonist's name is Lian Shanxin. He was born into an ordinary family. His mother used to be from a wealthy family, but they fell on hard times, and his father was a kept man. Therefore, the protagonist couldn't even be considered from a poor family. This was the first time I realized that being from a poor family was actually a very high level, second only to the aristocratic families.
Even after the protagonist turns 18, he hasn't awakened any particularly outstanding talents. He's bad at martial arts, not good at academics, and has no way to cultivate immortality. The system is randomly triggered and cannot be relied upon entirely. However, he is exceptionally good at reading people and can see through their secrets, so he still manages to secure a place in an academy through some marketing tactics.
The recommender is likely based on Kong Rong, and the so-called academy is Bailudong Academy, equivalent to Tsinghua and Peking Universities today. The protagonist isn't purely motivated by studying, but rather by a desire to enter officialdom, especially to become a henchman. The henchman organization in the story is called Jiutian, extremely powerful and mysterious, offering opportunities for exceptional promotion and even cultivation. However, a new problem arises at the same time.
After the protagonist finally gets recommended by Kong Rong, the academy is discovered to be infiltrated by the Grand Elder of the Demonic Sect. Even with the intervention of the Nine Heavens, the Grand Elder cannot be captured. This damages the reputation of the Nine Heavens and the prestige of the imperial court, potentially plunging both the court and the martial arts world into turmoil. The protagonist finds himself in a very awkward situation, but through a series of maneuvers and strategic maneuvers, he still decides to enter the academy.
When he stood before the Nine Swords, his performance was truly remarkable. It involved a great deal of intrigue, human relationships, and social dynamics, showcasing the author's rich knowledge and unique writing style. The insights presented were a culmination of the brilliant wisdom that would resonate with readers in later generations, and it made me re-evaluate the author, Pingceng—he is truly talented. Despite his year-long hiatus, his skill level hasn't diminished at all. He handles content that's generally off-limits in urban fiction with exceptional finesse, using a well-packaged framework.
Therefore, this book is a very enjoyable read. It's not just a pure system-based wish-fulfillment novel; it contains a lot of thought-provoking and philosophical insights. The supporting characters are not mindless stereotypes; their thoughts and intelligence are vividly portrayed.
If I had to list some drawbacks, I'd say it's the use of the words "hawks and hounds" in the title, which might be difficult to adapt for copyright reasons. However, the story itself is fine; it suited my taste and was very enjoyable to read. Therefore, considering all aspects, I highly recommend it to everyone—I sincerely recommend it.
