Chapter 11: Bugs and Dogs
If someone asks Ruger now, when is his happiest moment, he will definitely smile and say that it was the previous second, at the last intersection.
He got lost again.
After turning a corner, he realized something was wrong, but when he wanted to turn back, waves of sobbing like a heartbroken child sounded all around him. This familiar sobbing was something he had encountered once when he left Banren, and then it was the current situation. No matter how he walked, the sobbing sound surrounded him in the passage, as if to entertain him on his journey.
The other party seemed to be able to influence people's judgment, and might be the culprit that caused him to get lost all the time.
And now, because he has been maintaining the spell of smelly skin, the culprit who can only be heard but not seen seems to dare not approach, and the two sides are caught in a strange confrontation, and it is a mobile confrontation, which is simply unheard of.
After walking around for a while, when he heard crying from behind, he suddenly strode forward and for a moment the crying was left behind.
The spells in the temporary spell slot had been replenished through meditation while he was resting on the road. If the guy who scared people with his crying dared to show up, he wouldn't mind wasting another spell to give him a good beating.
The kind that breaks when a stick is pulled.
As he ran, the crying sound became farther and farther away until it could no longer be heard.
It seems that he is not a guy with extraordinary powers, he thought.
"It smells good, brother, can you help me?"
As a slightly childish child's voice appeared, a short figure walked out awkwardly from the corner of the cave wall in front of Ruger.
Luger knew that the other party was probably tired of playing with him. But he had to stop because every time he took a step forward, the little thing took a step back. There was really no end to it.
"Didn't you say I smell good?"
He plucked up his courage and looked carefully at the little thing in front of him.
After getting a closer look, he wasn't as nervous as he had been when he'd just heard the voice. He saw the man had the appearance of an ordinary child, with two slender antennae on his head, a simple, plain, single-colored robe, and detailed, segmented features at the shoulders and elbows. This reminded him of a rarely seen humanoid race called the Insect People, which he had only heard Ai Sijin talk about.
"It's not this stinky spell, it's the scent of spiritual power that smells good."
The little bug man tried his best to explain, his voice was very calm, but his tears could not stop flowing.
"Are you a bug man?"
Naturally, he would not stop the spell easily. He had thought about it on the way. When he saw Ai Sijin, he would try to control the spell to see if he could keep the spell running without hurting the ogre girl.
"It's the Pupa Man, the Pupa Man clan," the little insect man said hesitantly, as if choosing his words. "Some bad guys are chasing me. Can I give my brother to you?"
The little bug man said this as he took out a round object.
"Perhaps you could start by telling me who's chasing you? Is it the Lizardman?"
He looked at the egg-like object, which was the size of two fists, and could feel that a life was growing inside.
The little bug man shook his head and his tears fell faster.
"Aunt One Hundred and Seventy-Five said they were wizards and that we must not let them catch me," the little insect man said, tears streaming down his face. "This is my favorite little brother, but he hasn't awakened his spiritual wisdom. An insect egg without the light of spiritual wisdom will eventually become a bug beast, not a bug man. And I can't take him with me anymore."
So many aunts! Bug people are more fertile than kobolds and lizardmen, he thought.
"Then you can give it to your aunt..."
"My aunts are all dead, and my aunt is also dead."
The little bug man cried more and more sadly. "Okay! I promise you! But I want to see what a wizard looks like. You have to tell me where the wizard is."
He was a little excited, but suddenly thought of his own ugly appearance, and then thought of the owner of the diary in his hand, the wizard apprentice Kalu, and the mysterious half-man.
"The wizard is dead too. Yeah, there are still a few left, chasing me all the time," the little bug man said distressedly, "but I don't know where they are now. As soon as I fall asleep, they'll know where I am and find me. I'm very sleepy now. I haven't slept for a long time..."
As the little fellow spoke, he yawned again, looking like he was about to fall asleep.
"I was going to leave a long time ago, but I stayed a few more days because I noticed you smelled so good. I really should leave now," the little bug man raised his hands, holding the egg above his head. "I can't carry it with me any longer. Aunt Seven Hundred and Twenty-Eight said I must enter the innermost city, so I won't have to worry about the wizard finding me."
The little bug man didn't point in any direction, but as Ruger listened to him, he inexplicably thought of the journey he had imagined to explore the end of the cave passage.
"But I can tell you the locations where those wizards died. If you want to see a wizard, you can look at the dead ones. They don't smell good, so they probably weren't eaten by underground beasts."
The little bug man's tears seem to never dry up. Perhaps his race should be called crying bugs.
In the moment that Ruger hesitated, the little bug man began to nod continuously, and his eyes were almost closed. The little guy insisted on waiting quietly for his decision, and occasionally tugged at his tentacles to force himself to be more awake.
"Put it down."
He chose not to stop his spell.
"Here's a breeding bag. You can put it in it. It's very convenient and won't cause you any trouble."
There was finally some happiness on the little bug man's face, but his tears never stopped.
The word that came to Ruger's mind was "dam burst".
Perhaps he was truly heartbroken, or perhaps this was some special ability of their chrysalis people. This was a magical world where magic existed.
The little guy seemed to be really anxious. He put the eggs into the breeding bag and left. His tiny body could float through the darkness like swimming and disappear in the blink of an eye.
Didn't those hundreds of aunts tell you to keep your word? And you still haven't told me where the wizard is! He thought to himself.
As Ruger carefully picked up the breeding bag.
There was another sound in the darkness, and the little insect man turned back. He apologized repeatedly, tilted his head and pointed with his tentacles.
"When I grow up a little, I will come out to play with you. You smell really good, and my brother will like you too." The little insect man disappeared into the darkness of the passage as he spoke.
At this moment, Ruger also felt a fluctuation of mental power. With a slight touch, a simple map was read by his mental power.
He hung the breeding bag under the animal skin around his waist and quickly left.
As he walked, he couldn't wait to check the map. There was more than one place where the wizard was buried on the map. He looked carefully for a long time, but among the many marked places, there was no place where he guessed the half-man was.
But this is finally a good thing. With the news about the wizard, we don’t have to rely too much on half-humans.
And judging from the insect people's behavior, they did not loot the wizards' belongings when they fled.
He returned to the familiar road and chose a new route to set off.
As the passageway widened, he knew he had finally made the right choice. Last time, under the power of the Savage Bull, he had seemed like a peerless macho man, but once the spell wore off, his entire body ached, forcing him to seek a quiet spot to meditate and rest. This spell also required a certain level of physical strength to support it, and could even complement the other spells for a more potent effect.
He was thinking about the fruit of the Holy Lord, so he sneaked to the big cave, but all he saw was a pool of blood.
