Kobold Wizard's Journal

Chapter 4 Meditation and Spells

Chapter 4 Meditation and Spells

Ruger strung the four fat worms together one by one and carried them back on his shoulders.

Walk back slowly.

He had already roughly understood what the large kobold was trying to do, and in the end, he didn't choose to dirty his long staff, but instead let the big, stupid guy go. On the way back, he suddenly realized, and found it amusing that stupidity could actually become a life-saving ability. He didn't even want the other person to help him hunt.

The so-called Grey Long-Neck Saint Lord did indeed forbid the Kobolds from hunting fleshworms for food. However, his order was that all captured fleshworms should be presented to him, the Saint Lord, meaning he could only catch them but not eat them.

If I understand correctly, this is what I mean.

He was too lazy to pay attention to it anymore, it was a waste of brainpower.

He returned to his little nest, ate some insect meat, and had a good sleep.

Then continue meditating.

The sleeping book suddenly became a head-explosion book.

He had many guesses in his mind, but he was not scared.

He believed that the book's difficulty in opening the pages was a form of protection for people like him. As his mental strength grew, turning the pages one by one became a form of training. The two kobolds must have had too low a mental capacity to withstand even the initial runes. After just one glance, they lost control, their heads exploding, unable to even look away.

Since I don't think this book is an evil thing, I naturally won't feel afraid.

Over time.

The fifth rune could finally be easily outlined.

During this time, he ate half a worm. He had wanted to go to the hot spring before but had not done so. He felt a little sick of eating the sticky worm meat for so long.

But his butt still showed no sign of moving.

Finally, he could turn the next page. Curious, he could see the contents of pages seven and eight. One of them must contain runes. Could the other contain the spells he had longed for? The thought of one day mastering such a magical thing filled him with wonder, as if in a dream. He didn't even care whether he ate Big Nose or not.

He spread the book on his knees, probed with his fingers, and found that he could indeed turn the pages.

The first rune I saw was a little more complicated than the previous five, but not beyond my expectations. Then on the other page was a long and dense explanation of precautions that I hadn't seen in a long time.

Turning it back again, it becomes a meticulous iron bolt.

He scratched his head. He wasn't too disappointed when he didn't see the magical knowledge he'd imagined. Once he mastered the sixth rune, or truly completed a magic scar, he should be able to look at pages nine and ten. Perhaps they would contain what he was looking for.

Thinking of this, he skipped the runes and read the long article first.

After looking for a while, his expression became unhappy.

The knowledge on this page about six runes forming a magic scar was very helpful to him, but the information on the back about becoming a first-level wizard apprentice was a heavy blow to him.

Once you become a wizard apprentice, you will gain a zero-level spell slot.

This is an extremely precious item that can bring about a qualitative change in wizard apprentices. If they want to obtain spell slots afterwards, they have to wait until they become a first-level official wizard. Only then can they solidify a first-level spell, which is another qualitative change.

Solidified spells do not require the assistance of incantations or gestures, and will not feel tiring even if cast multiple times. They are also easier to perceive and understand, and can even become instinctive. In short, there are many benefits.

What made him pale was that after becoming a wizard's apprentice, he had to immediately solidify the spells he had prepared.

In other words, normal wizard apprentices all start to learn spell knowledge and master relevant spell models in advance.

While practicing meditation, I began to select and learn in a targeted manner.

This was simply an absurd fantasy for him. Not to mention strategically and carefully selecting a solidified spell that would accompany him throughout his life, or even making slight modifications and expansions to it, he didn't even have an ordinary one that he could use. He had never even seen one. He was truly left with no choice.

After pondering for a moment, he decided to try to master this last rune first.

From mastering this most complex rune, to being able to outline it all in one breath, and then trying to fuse the six runes into a magic mark, it all takes time, and he doesn't want the progress to fall behind because of anything.

Maybe this time, just like before, I can turn to the next page of the book after mastering the sixth rune?
Thinking this, he tried harder to concentrate on meditation.

But there was always a voice in my heart that thought I might need to become a wizard apprentice to continue reading the book, and that there would be no spell models at the end, but some subsequent knowledge about meditation. Maybe the book didn't cover knowledge related to low-level spells at all.

Time passed in meditation. The worms gradually decreased, transforming into a different kind of clock with their rich nutrition and terrible taste.

The sixth rune was successfully mastered.

He let out a long breath.

But then, his fingers rubbed the corners of the book until they trembled and fell off, and he didn't turn to a new page.

He threw the book away, thought for a moment, picked it up again, and lay down using it as a pillow.

During the breaks in meditation these days, he had carefully recalled the past. Apart from the black book, the ways he could obtain magical knowledge were almost zero, unless a miracle suddenly appeared in front of him and inexplicably fulfilled his wish.

Of course, a final struggle must be made, such as returning to the place where he picked up the book.

But when he picked up this exquisite thing, which was obviously a creation of civilization, he excitedly searched the entire area, but in the end found nothing.

Maybe I missed something because I was hungry.

He comforted himself, swallowed the insect meat, and his thin body set out on the road of memories.

Unlike going out hunting, this book was picked up by him while exploring the caves inhabited by dog-headed men, so he didn't need to go out. Instead, he followed a fork in the road at the other end of his not-so-safe little nest.

This cave is suitable for the activities of creatures taller than humans. The highest point is four meters high, and the lowest point is about two meters high. It can block some exaggerated-sized underground beasts to a certain extent, but it is no more peaceful than the large cave hunting areas outside, which are like independent worlds.

These seemingly small passages are intricate and seem to have no end. If you count them carefully, they may be even larger than those huge hunting grounds.

There is no real safety in this place, including the cave where he has been eating and living. It is transparent from front to back and unobstructed. He can stay here freely purely because this place is remote and no dog-headed people come here. And because the dog-headed people have been entrenched in this place for many years, ordinary predators rarely appear nearby.

Although the probability of an accident is very low, theoretically every time he sleeps, he may still be taken away by a small underground beast passing by.

He memorized the route as he walked, leaving simple marks at the forks in the road along the way.

Getting lost is another potentially life-threatening hazard.

He felt hungry once during the journey and ate some insect meat he had brought with him. It seemed that the increase in his mental strength made his brain work much better than before. Before, he felt that he was getting dumber and dumber, but now the things he remembered became clearer.

According to the reminder of the stomach timer and the details of the surrounding environment, the destination should be not far away.

"This place must have been built by humans, right?"

He suddenly had an urge. When one day he could become a wizard's apprentice and mastered enough means to face all kinds of dangers, he would follow the road to the end, until there was no way to go, to see where these passages leading to.

That could be an extremely long journey.

When he felt a little hungry again, he finally arrived at the place he remembered, a crossroads as spacious as a small square.

The black book was right next to the big rock in front. Compared to last time, there were some small mushrooms emitting a faint white glow there.

Quiet intersection with unobstructed views.

The faint glow of the mushrooms made the intersection in all four directions seem even darker.

"Ugly little dog-headed man, you are finally here..."

A voice without any emotion rang directly in Ruger's mind.

He immediately unfolded the black book and held it in his hand, holding it in front of him like a shield.

"I have been waiting for you, but it seems you have forgotten me."

He held up the black book, opened his dog eyes that could see in the dark wide, and turned around quickly.

Finally, his gaze returned to the stone.

"It seems that you like the book I gave you very much. Unfortunately, you are just a kobold, destined to never become a formal wizard. Even though you are very different and smarter than other kobolds, you cannot break the limitation of being a short-lived species..."

The man's voice continued to echo in his mind. He squinted his eyes and vaguely saw the outline of a person lying on the stone.
