Kobold Wizard's Journal
Chapter 79: Abyssal Cave and Ordering Food
Chapter 79: Abyssal Cave and Ordering Food
Ruger calmed down the three guys for the time being, tore off his wizard robe, which was already in tatters, and tied it around his waist, then walked out of the abyss bedroom space.
He wanted to see if Kalu was still outside after so many days.
As soon as he walked out of the space gate, something flew towards him. He raised his hand to catch it. It was a few loose wizard robes.
"Put this on. Even if it looks a little strange, people with common sense will understand." Kaliu was still sitting in his previous position. "How does it feel to become a dragonborn kobold?"
Ruger clenched his fist and said, "I feel full of power. I feel like I can live for a long time. I feel full of energy."
He said as he separated his robes and put them into his storage pockets, picking out a hooded one and putting it on.
"Let's go," Kalu stood up and dusted himself off. "This should be the edge of a cave area. Maybe we can quickly reach a town with people and even have a drink in a tavern."
Luger nodded, and the two of them started on their way.
Then he began to look at Kaliu with strange eyes from time to time. First, he compared their heights. He found that he was actually the same height as Kaliu, or even a little taller. He felt a lot more relieved instantly.
Then his eyes became even stranger, because this guy said before he set off that he would hurry up, and he thought there was some special way to travel, but it turned out that he was just walking, and walking very slowly, as if he was strolling after dinner.
Sometimes he would stop and walk, just like the little thing with a strange smell in Kalu's hand, which he had just picked on the road.
Along the way, Ruger got bored and started tinkering with the few spells he knew.
He had already decided to place Mind Boiling within the fourth Magic Scar, not for its own effects, but as a preparation for the combined effects of the five Magic Scars. After the previous battle, he felt this spell was perfectly suited to curb the impulsive actions he'd experienced under the influence of spells like Demon Body. Without this insignificant spell to maintain his composure during the previous battle, pain and anger would likely have clouded his judgment.
When he occasionally fiddled with the smelly skin, Karu would look at him curiously, looking ignorant.
But he did make some new discoveries. Each time he cast the Foul Skin spell, his skin color would change, then return to normal after the spell ended. This time, when he began to grow scales and his hair grew in areas where it was sparse, he noticed that the Foul Skin had left behind some faint spiral marks. He couldn't be sure they were the effects of the Foul Skin at first, until he tried casting the spell for a while and then ending it. The marks darkened, then returned to a certain color over time.
What Ruger regretted was that he didn't discover it earlier, so he couldn't tell whether it was related to his use of the Demon Body spell, or even whether it was related to the transformation of the Dragonborn Gnoll.
"Is she still sad?" Kalu suddenly said.
Ruge was stunned for a moment before realizing that Kalu was talking about Aisijin.
"Yes, this is her first time leaving the tribe, but she is also very eager to see the outside world. She asked me to thank you for your language literacy spell." said Ruger.
He had just returned Aisijin and Dashaheng, who had been out for some fresh air, to their bedroom in the Abyss. He had also asked Kalu to cast a spell for them to learn the common language of the catacombs. Aisijin yearned for this new and exciting world, and while she was delighted, she also missed Old Gold Teeth.
Ruger was also helpless, but nothing in the world is perfect. In fact, if he really wanted to bring a dragon-born kobold out to adventure, he would really choose Old Gold Fang.
As for sending them and Zhizhi back to the bedroom space, it was because the first human settlement in the cave area was right in front of them.
Ruge discovered that the two of them had really walked for three days, so from the very beginning when Kalu said that, he had already planned to use this kind of walking form to travel faster.
As he got closer, the gap in Ruger's heart grew bigger.
Even though Kaliu had given him some common sense on the way, he was still a little disappointed.
A cave region is often built around a huge cave city. Surrounding the cave city are dozens to hundreds of numbered cave areas, which are actually various small towns. They are the main body of the cave region and can also enjoy some of the light of the cave city. Further out are the messy, unnumbered abyss cave areas, where more people live. It is a buffer zone and there is basically no light, so it is called the abyss cave area.
It was said that crops requiring sunlight could be grown in the numbered catacombs, and many people relied on them for their livelihoods. The so-called buffer zone in the abyssal catacombs was designed to reduce the damage to crops from underground beasts and burrowing worms.
Kaliu walked in front, and Ruger followed behind, looking around, his hood already put on.
The first impression of the place was shabby and stinking. As for the darkness, that wasn't a problem; after all, they weren't noble lords who had just emerged from the Catacombs. He stomped his feet and found that the houses and streets were all in shabby condition. Only the ground was well paved, with large, tightly packed stones. Some had been worn smooth, while others looked new, evidently having been recently repaired.
There were people coming and going on the smelly street. Ruger hadn't seen so many people for a long time.
The two came to a small pub on the corner of the street.
Crash! A group of people came out of the tavern aggressively, dozens of them, forcing the two to retreat to the side.
Ruger looked very excited. Seeing so many human activities, he felt like he had suddenly returned to society from the mountains.
"Are they going to fight? Should we go and watch the fun?" Ruge said as he approached Kalu.
Unfortunately, all he got in return was a roll of the eyes from Karyu.
The two pushed open the door, entered the tavern and chose a table that was as sticky and smelly as any in this town.
After sitting down, Ruger lay on the slightly sticky table without any disgust.
The arrival of the waiter made him even more excited.
He coughed lightly, raised his hand to stop Karyu from speaking, and at the same time attracted the waiter's attention.
"Any recommendations, or you can give me a menu," Ruger said excitedly.
The waiter was stunned for a moment, then sneered, "A noble young master coming out under the light? Taverns in the Abyss Cave District never have a menu. Today, they only offer sour mushroom wine and black insect wine. If you're hungry, you can consider ordering some barbecue or insect shell stew. Insect shell stew is our specialty, and I recommend it."
As the waiter spoke, he shook the fat on his face. It can be seen that if it weren't for the scar on his face, he must have been a handsome guy when he was young.
"Okay, I'll have what you said, and two glasses of each kind of wine," said Ruger.
"Two servings of worm stew, four glasses of wine, and twelve star coins," said the waiter.
Ruge suddenly realized what was going on and made a gesture of invitation to Kalu.
Kalu kept watching with a smile, watching Ruge's excitement, watching the waiter's ridicule, watching the animal oil lamp emitting a strange smell nearby. It seemed that everything was very interesting, including the vicious and greedy Abyss people in the dim tavern.
Kaliu took out the twelve star coins and placed them gently on the table.
The waiter put away the star coins and whispered, "You'd better not act so excited outside, you not so bright young master, or you might not even make it to the end of the alley."
"Thank you, I will remember your words." Ruger said with a smile.
Only after the waiter left did Ruge lie down on the table again, move closer to Kalu and lower his voice.
"Where are we going next? Back to your academy?" said Ruger.
Kaliu smiled and shook his head.
"We may need to stay in this chaotic place where you can even see wanted criminals on the street for a while. I need to recuperate," Kalu said with a raised eyebrow. "Also, wizard apprentices like us usually have been away from the academy for decades."
Ever since Kalyu regained mobility, the expression on his face has been somewhat overflowing.
Ruger was a little excited when he heard this. He was happy to get in touch with this world. Everything was unknown to him, especially the area where humans lived, and it didn't seem to be dangerous here.
