Hogwarts: Don't call me Wandmaker
Chapter 123 Unicorn and Diary
Chapter 123 Unicorn and Diary
Xilun took out the quill pen he had prepared beforehand and wrote on the other half of the blank page:
"Hello, Tom Riddle."
The writing disappeared quickly, so it was obviously a genuine product.
Upon witnessing this, Malfoy completely gave up struggling... Sirius wasn't bluffing; he knew how to use the diary.
Damn it, didn't Riddle say he was the first friend he ever made?
Malfoy felt a stinging sensation in his eyes and tried hard not to let the tears fall... Liar, just like Potter, a liar!
……
five minutes later.
Xilun felt he was still very polite; his first words were "hello" instead of directly swearing at someone.
But he has been waiting until now and has not received any reply.
"Are you sure this thing is real?" Siren looked at Malfoy, but Malfoy also refused to talk to him, looking away with his red eyes.
"Four points..."
"Yes, it's true!" Malfoy shouted angrily, "What you took from me, of course it's real!"
"That's strange." Xiren frowned. "Is it this slow to respond when you use it too?"
"What's slow to react?"
"It's about how long it takes him to respond to you."
“Immediately,” Malfoy said, “like two friends writing to each other face to face.”
When talking about his friends, Malfoy's eyes welled up with tears again.
“Alright.” Siren nodded, seemingly indicating that Riddle was refusing to communicate with him.
This is easy to handle.
Siren first pulled Malfoy back into the corridor, and before he could speak, she changed her wand back to Silvermane.
"Collapse!"
Malfoy wasn't particularly proficient with the Stun Spell he'd just learned from the Duel Club, but luckily he wasn't in great shape either. He'd been hanging for so long and was already feeling dizzy, so he passed out on the spot after being hit by the spell.
Myrtle's washroom was sealed off by the headmaster, so Siron could only drag her into another empty classroom next door, and then went in himself.
He threw the diary into the air, then raised his wand.
A blue unicorn leaped from the tip of the staff, and before Xilun could even say anything, the unicorn lowered its head, pointed its sharp horn at the diary, and thrust it forward in mid-air!
The translucent, sharp point should have been able to pass through the diary, like a ghost passing through a wall, but instead it made a dull sound.
Then came an even more piercing scream...
"what!"
The diary suddenly began to tremble, and drops of ink flowed out as if it were dripping blood.
The ink then turned into black mist, gathering into something that... looked like a person.
“Hello, Tom Riddle,” Celen greeted again, exactly as he had written in his diary, except that Tom Riddle didn’t look particularly well.
He was surrounded by a strange, misty glow, but only the left half of him resembled a human, while the other half was a blurry, chaotic black mist, as if someone had forcibly torn half of him out of the middle.
Xilun dared to say that this was definitely not done by a unicorn; it was just a slight bump. It's possible that it had multiple holes in its body, but to lose half of its body is too exaggerated.
“We meet again… Ollivander, or should I call you Harry Potter…” Riddle began, his voice filled with intense resentment, which seemed to lower the temperature around him.
"Wait..." Xilun was about to say something, but he froze when he heard his words, "What did you just call me?"
“Harry Potter, the savior who killed the Dark Lord,” Riddle said. “You must be very proud of yourself.”
“No, I’m not proud at all.” Celen shook his head. “You’ve mistaken me for someone else. I’m Celen Ollivander, and Harry Potter is another boy. I can introduce you if you need.”
"Impossible! I can't possibly admit I'm wrong!"
Riddle immediately became agitated. "You killed my future self. I can feel it, the resentment and bitterness of a soul dissipating. You can't fool me. I felt it the first time we met!"
Overwhelmed with excitement, his remaining half of his body suddenly disintegrated, only to coalesce again a few seconds later.
However, Celen noticed that Malfoy, who was unconscious, twitched unconsciously, and the color in his face became even paler.
“I’ve wanted to ask this for a long time.” Xiren looked at him. “Do you have some misunderstanding about me? I dare say this is the first time we’ve met, and the first time I’ve ever seen a diary.”
“Still pretending?” Riddle suddenly sneered. “Weren’t you looking for me in that bookstore?”
bookstore……
Flourish and Blotts?
“Impossible,” Xilun blurted out. “How could you possibly know about what happened back then?”
“Want to know?” Riddle said with a fake smile. “I can answer you, but first, you need to answer my question.”
His answer was Siren's spinning wand and a long blue horn that disappeared into his shoulder.
"Ah... damn it..."
Screams echoed in the empty classroom.
The unicorn rammed him again, this time nearly tearing his arm off. "You have no other choice now." With each turn of his wand, the unicorn left a hole in him.
“You want to kill me… and that boy won’t live either…” Riddle roared.
“It doesn’t matter.” Siron continued twirling his wand. “They won’t be able to trace it back to me anyway.”
Soon, Riddle was riddled with holes, and finally, he couldn't hold on any longer and shouted:
"It's resentment. I can feel the resentment in you after your soul dissipated, and it's the same as mine!"
Siren stopped what he was doing, but at that moment Riddle became even more indistinct.
"That resentment was like a knife stabbing into my body, making me clearly feel that you were looking for me, that you wanted to kill me!"
The resentment after the soul dissipates... could it be that magic wand?
If there's any connection between him and Voldemort's soul, it's only that two-inch wand.
Just days before going to Flourish and Blotts, he used that wand to kill six Death Eaters, and the wand's properties also completely destroyed Voldemort's soul, which was the core of the wand.
So strictly speaking, he did kill a Voldemort soul, and he even heard Voldemort's voice at the time... But would that thing still harbor any resentment?
Siren twirled his wand again, and the unicorn immediately perched on its head once more.
“Ah… I’ve already answered you…” Riddle said angrily.
"Sorry, it's a habit," Xilun waved his hand dismissively. "How do we solve this problem?"
He's always carrying Voldemort's resentment, which doesn't feel like a good thing.
“No need,” Riddle said through gritted teeth. “This magic castle has already been destroyed for you.”
"You didn't lie to me?"
“I’m not you, you don’t even have to make up a name,” Riddle sneered.
“I’m really not Harry Potter.” Celen took a deep breath. “Alright, let’s talk about something else. Where were you back then?”
“I was picked up by a wizard,” Riddle said. “When I realized you were looking for me, I had to do something, so I controlled the nearest wizard and took me out of your sight.”
"Of course, it was not easy, and the price was half my soul, but I succeeded. That filthy wizard with half-elf blood took me away from the bookstore." Riddle's tone was casual, but his eyes were filled with a resentment that was almost solidified.
With half of his soul gone, it meant he could no longer rely on the lives of others to be reborn, and could only remain trapped in that small diary.
How could he not resent it?
"Then how did you end up in Malfoy's hands?"
“That wizard brought me here.” Riddle glanced at the unicorn that was gathering its strength again and gave up struggling completely. “He came to take pictures of Lockhart, but he forgot about me in the other man’s office when he left.”
“Taking photos…that wizard taking pictures?” Siren remembered that at the opening banquet, there was indeed a photographer from the Daily Prophet taking pictures of Lockhart.
"So, Lockhart was the first person to get you?"
“Yes, he signed his diary with ink mixed with dragon’s blood, and the magic in the dragon’s blood helped me through my weakest period,” Riddle said.
"Then I realized that this was a great opportunity. The other party was a real wizard, not some dirty fairy hybrid. I could rely on his life force to become strong again."
"So you controlled him again?" Siren thought of Lockhart's unusual Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson in the first class.
“No.” Riddle shook his head. “I was interrupted by a group of students when I tried to do so.”
“Gidero Lockhart didn’t see my reply to him, but someone else did.”
“Draco Malfoy,” Celen said.
“That’s right, he seemed to think I was a very powerful magical artifact, so he stole me,” Riddle continued.
“How wonderful! Malfoy was also a wizard who believed in the supremacy of pure blood, so we quickly became close friends. He opened his heart to me and confided his secrets.”
Riddle glanced at Malfoy on the ground again, a hint of disdain flashing in his eyes.
"But it was so boring. I thought he would ask me how to gain power, but he didn't. Instead, he complained to me every day that Harry Potter was stupid and his friends were stupid..."
"But it was precisely because of this that I learned your name for the first time, the famous savior who killed the Dark Lord."
“I already said I’m not Harry… never mind.” Siron didn’t bother explaining further. He simply waved his wand.
The unicorn ran over happily and nudged Riddle in the mouth.
While he was recovering, Xilun also sorted out what he had just said.
Riddle probably wouldn't dare lie, after all, the unicorn really could kill him. Most methods of destroying Horcruxes target the Horcrux itself, such as piercing the diary with the basilisk's fangs.
But the unicorn is different; it can directly damage the soul fragments inside the Horcrux. Although the damage isn't great, it hurts, which is more terrifying to Riddle than the basilisk's fangs.
He is unlikely to lie, but it's impossible for him to tell the whole truth either; that's something Xilun needs to discern for himself.
However, Celen finally understood why he couldn't find the diary at Flourish and Blotts; the reason lay with him.
But can soul fragments be used as an early warning system?
If that's the case, doesn't that mean he can never get close to any other Horcruxes again?
He ran away as soon as he got close to the other party, how could he possibly do anything about it?
Although Riddle said that the resentment in his body had been dispelled by the magic of the castle, he could ask again later if there were any remnants.
