Hogwarts: Don't call me Wandmaker
Chapter 334 Parrying Techniques
Chapter 334 Parrying Techniques
Before Alastor Moody had even finished speaking, a murmur of discussion broke out in the classroom.
How can I save my life when facing a dark wizard?
"I dare say he's definitely going to teach us a really powerful spell."
"But we don't have to face the dark wizard..."
"Quiet!" Moody shouted, and everyone shut their mouths, the surrounding sounds instantly disappearing.
Moody nodded in satisfaction. He didn't like too much noise around him, as it would interfere with his judgment and prevent him from noticing potential dangers immediately.
"What do we do now, Professor?" someone asked, raising their hand.
“Now you should put these things away.” Moody walked to a table, leaning on his cane, and pointed to the textbooks on it. “You don’t need to read these books for this lesson.”
The students packed their books into their bags, looking very excited.
Based on past experience, Defense Against the Dark Arts classes that don't require books are always very interesting.
For example, Professor Lupin didn't need a textbook for his first class, and in that class he showed everyone the amazing Boggart. It's a dark creature that often hides in small, enclosed spaces, and if seen, it will transform into the person's most feared form.
A memorable and interesting scene also occurred at the time: Snape dressed as a witch from the last century.
Neville was later relentlessly targeted by Snape, most likely for this reason.
The students looked at Moody expectantly, wondering what surprise he would bring next.
Moody didn't keep them in suspense and immediately said:
"The parrying spell is what we'll be learning in this lesson."
"A parrying spell?" Someone raised their hand and asked in confusion, "Is it a type of armor spell? I've never heard of it before?"
“No…” Moody shook his head. “Strictly speaking, the Parry Spell is not a spell, but a combat technique.”
He raised his wand, and the curtains were drawn, plunging the classroom into darkness.
However, at the same time, everyone can clearly see that the tip of his staff is enveloped in a faint white light.
“Like this,” he said. “As long as you control the timing, the burst of magic in an instant can neutralize the opponent’s spell.”
"Um... you might not understand what I'm saying. Is there anyone willing to help me?"
Everyone looked at their classmates, but no one responded.
“Alright, Harry Potter, come to the front.” Moody called out directly.
“I knew it,” Harry muttered to himself as he stood up.
This is probably the price of fame... Whenever a professor calls roll, he'll be called on nine times out of ten.
Lockhart's stage performances and Lupin's practice of finding someone to demonstrate how to deal with dark creatures are examples of this. Moody is no exception now.
“What should I do, Professor?” Harry asked.
“Attack me, with your most powerful spells,” Moody said.
"What?" Harry paused, somewhat hesitant.
But Moody laughed.
"You don't think you can hurt me, do you?" he said casually. "To be honest, if it weren't for demonstrating the effect, I probably wouldn't even need to use a wand to deal with students like you...
Harry frowned slightly. Moody's attitude made him feel underestimated, and he subconsciously tightened his grip on his wand.
Without further hesitation, he instantly raised his hand.
"Except your weapons!"
A red beam, about the thickness of a finger, shot straight towards Moody. However, Moody remained standing there, neither dodging nor chanting a spell.
Only when the red light reached him did he slowly raise the hand holding the wand and gently wave it.
Just like playing a game of ball-hopping, Harry's Disarming Charm was knocked away by Moody's wand and landed right next to Neville.
Neville's wand flew out of his hand, and he fell to the ground, sitting there blankly, seemingly not understanding what had happened.
“That’s it,” Moody continued. “A sudden burst of magic allows you to withstand your opponent’s attacks at a lower cost.”
"But be careful!" Moody suddenly raised his voice, startling everyone.
“Not all spells can be used this way. If your opponent uses the Unforgivable Curse, you'd better run, run as fast as you can.” He continued, “Of course, this isn’t what you’re going to learn right now. Alright, Potter, you can go back now.”
Harry quickly ran off the stage and picked up Neville's wand from the ground, returning it to him.
"Th-thank you." Neville took the wand, still not fully recovered from the shock.
“You’re welcome,” Harry said.
Meanwhile, Moody had already stirred up the atmosphere in the classroom.
"That's so cool! You can knock away spells with a wave of your wand," Ron said, his eyes shining, eager to learn the trick right away.
However, Moody didn't rush to class. Instead, he grinned and revealed a terrifying smile... The scars all bulged together as his facial muscles moved, making them look even more grotesque.
But Moody himself didn't seem to realize this, and went on to say, "By the way, what I just said was only part of the lesson."
"A part?" the person sitting at the front asked instinctively. "Are there any other things we need to learn?"
“That’s right, and that’s the most crucial point.” Moody chuckled hoarsely, then clapped his rough hands. “So, does anyone remember what I’ve been saying since the beginning of class?”
No one answered.
"Stay alert?" Siren said, raising his hand.
“That’s right.” Moody’s blue magic eye looked over.
“Sirlen Ollivander…not bad, five points for Gryffindor.”
His magic eye then fell on Ron and Harry beside him. Ron looked terrified and subconsciously rubbed his arms.
Fortunately, Moody quickly looked away.
"Stay alert; that's the key to your survival against the dark wizard."
“So…” Moody paused, and his magic eye began to spin rapidly, as if observing the expressions on everyone’s faces.
After a two-minute standoff, he spoke again: "I've decided that before the end of this class, I will randomly cast a spell on one of you."
He casually waved his wand.
With a loud bang, the podium next to them was instantly blown to pieces.
Everyone was stunned, mouths agape, speechless. They still couldn't understand how a perfectly normal class could suddenly become so dangerous.
“No, you can’t do this,” Hermione was the first to react, saying, “The headmaster won’t allow it.”
“In fact, Dumbledore has already given his permission.” Moody smiled even more broadly. “He also told me that Ms. Pomfrey at the university hospital has extensive experience, so I don’t need to worry.”
Hermione's face turned ashen.
“What you need to do is learn the Parry Spell as quickly as possible, and block it before it hits you.” He glanced at everyone again, grinning from ear to ear. “Good luck.”
