Chapter 13 Rage
Gu Yi immediately rushed to the third floor of the school. The stench grew stronger as he climbed up the stairs. He was very familiar with this smell; he had killed many of them before.
A kind of trapped beast's restlessness was coursing through his veins, and he leaped over the last three steps.
The moment the emergency exit door was flung open, the scorching air blast blew his hair away from his forehead. The entire corridor resembled a beehive bathed in flamethrowers, the charred walls licked by a giant beast, and exposed steel bars jutted out from the rubble like charred ribs.
In the center of this purgatory-like scene, a blond man poked at a piece of charred charcoal on the ground with a bone blade covered in bone hyperplasia. His Doc Martin boots rolled over the carbonized remains of desks and chairs, sparks flying from the soles of his boots. The still-dry blood congealed in the heat into dark red crystals, like scattered garnets.
"The rightful owner has finally arrived."
The man raised the bone blade and pointed it at Gu Yi, the carbide clinging to the blade falling off. Behind him was a locker that had been overturned by the shockwave. The twisted metal door was covered in glass shards, like some kind of modern art sculpture.
"The last time I was pulled in here, I saw someone observing me when I left. Was that person you?" Gu Yi said as he walked.
The blond man was stunned for half a second, then suddenly burst into laughter: "Looks like I need to retake my stealth class?"
Gu Yi's canvas shoes sank into the half-melted flooring, and the soles felt scorching hot. "Where's Chu Zihang?"
The trembling sound of the man's boot hitting the metal was particularly crisp in the scorched earth. The blood-stained necklace slid across the carbonized floorboards, the chain melting into a strange twisted shape in the heat. It was Chu Zihang's evil-warding necklace.
"He's dead!"
A golden storm exploded before Gu Yi's eyes. Time and space froze for a moment. As he charged forward, the blond man's frozen smile remained frozen. His hunting knife, scabbarded in a buckskin sheath, was silently plucked from his body. The force of Gu Yi's sneakers' kicks spiraled up his lumbar spine, and a precise spinning kick landed on the man's jaw. Blood formed a crimson arc in the air, and the man slammed into the load-bearing wall several meters away.
"What have you done..." The blond man coughed up blood foam and stood up, but his pupils suddenly contracted.
The marble floor where the boy was standing was cracking radially. Before the fragments shot out from the cracks and hit the ground, his sneakers had already hit his chest with the sound of bones breaking.
In the dust rain of the dented wall, he saw Gu Yi holding his hunting knife, with his blood dripping from the blade.
The man was about to speak when a cold light pierced his mouth. The tip of the blade, forged from fine Castilian steel, easily crushed his molars, and the deadly chill that pierced his brain made him shudder.
The dying instinct prompted the blond man to burst out six white bone spurs from his sternum, barely forcing back the young man who was about to pierce his skull.
The hunting knife made a hissing sound like leather tearing when it was pulled out - Gu Yi let the blade slide along his cheekbone, drawing a perfect fan of blood in the air.
The blond man stared at the boy who was trembling slightly ten steps away with pain. He could see the outline of the other's trembling shoulder blades, which was the physiological tremor after continuous overload.
His healing cheek tingled and itched like ants gnawing at him. The subcutaneous tissue swarmed like maggots, reassembling the broken cheekbone. He backhandedly grasped the jagged bone blade that had sprouted from his back. The man knew the boy would soon attack again, but he had no idea how to defend himself.
"In that case..."
The man pushed hard against the wall and rushed towards Gu Yi like a cannonball. Since he couldn't defend himself, he would take advantage of his current window of weakness to attack!
He stared at the boy with wide eyes. Forget about the mission. I'm going to kill him. I'm going to kill him right here!
In his pupils boiling with murderous intent, the boy suddenly blurred into a shadow.
As his body lunged forward, still in mid-air, the blond man suddenly felt a strange sense of weightlessness. A belated chill tinged his left shoulder, and a fine, crimson rain drifted across his vision. It was his own blood, coagulating into suspended beads in the air. The right half of his tactical vest slipped silently off, along with his right arm, now reduced to a blade of bone. The cut was smooth, as if cut by a laser, exposing the spasming alveolar tissue.
The three-hundred-kilogram body plummeted to the ground, arterial pressure pushing the shattered clavicle debris out of the wound, splattering radial blood on the wall. He struggled to prop up his upper body with his left hand, his retina lingering with a final image: a half-disappeared afterimage of the boy's original position, blood-stained fingertips gently brushing against pupils that had once again shone with a golden luster.
His broken body twitched on the ground, his eyes darting frantically in search of the enemy, but all he could see was an empty corridor.
At this moment, the sudden cold touch on his left shoulder made him make a hoarse sound in his throat. This time he didn't even see the flash of the knife. His entire right arm flew towards the pillar three meters away with the waterfall of blood.
The back of the man's head hit the cracked floor tiles hard. In his dilated pupils, the whistling sound from the soles of his sneakers became increasingly louder.
“Wait a minute…!”
The roar was distorted the moment the shoe sole crushed the larynx, and broken syllables and cartilage fragments exploded in the throat at the same time.
The young man stomped again, and the man's vision twisted into a kaleidoscope as his skull deformed. Before he could react, the knife's tip, with a shrieking sound that tore through the air, pointed directly at his head.
"What a tyrant~"
A clear male voice cut through the bloody curtain. Gu Yi's pupils suddenly shrank. All that was left under his feet were cracked tiles and stained blood. The blond man had disappeared!
Turning suddenly, ten meters away stood a man in a dark gray three-piece suit. The moonlight tweed had the sheen of liquid mercury, and the platinum cufflinks were emblazoned with fleur-de-lis. He adjusted his burgundy tie like an opera conductor sheathing his baton, revealing a face that combined the beauty of a classical sculpture with a modern edge, like a deadly gentleman straight out of a Cold War spy film.
"Please allow me to correct this." The man gently stroked his collar. Ripples appeared in the void behind him, revealing the remains of an unconscious blond man. "This bastard didn't kill your friend. He simply exceeded my script."
Before he finished speaking, Gu Yi stomped on the ground fiercely. The area where the man had just been was suddenly filled with dust, and flying steel bars mixed with concrete blocks splattered everywhere like shotgun shells.
But the splashing concrete blocks hovered strangely before hitting the man. When the boy used the recoil to jump to the load-bearing beam, he found that the other party had always maintained a precise distance of ten meters.
"So stubborn it's heartbreaking." The man removed his left suede glove and caught the flying stone between his brows. His British accent carried the richness and danger of sherry: "Now, can we listen to the elders' advice?"
"Is that jerk your man?" Gu Yi's voice was shrouded in ice. "And—" the dagger suddenly swung across his hand. "Were you also responsible for dragging me into this damn place twice before?"
A warm smile spread across the man's face, and he replied softly, "Of course."
Before he finished speaking, his expression changed slightly, and a hint of helplessness climbed up his handsome eyebrows.
Gu Yi's form collapsed without warning, his afterimage still lingering on his retina as his true form flashed before the armored man's face, a cold blade flashing. The steel blade tore through the air, piercing the man's face with the resolute force of a skull piercing through his skull.
"Qiang!"
The blade suddenly froze three fingers away from the man's face, and transparent ripples like water appeared in the air - some invisible barrier made the blade hum and vibrate.
Gu Yi's pupils suddenly shrank, and his heels slammed into the ground as he pulled out his knife. His body shot backwards like a bowstring that was stretched and then suddenly released, putting distance between him and the man again.
"Time zero? Your words are terrifying, but you are not qualified to charge at me now." The last syllable of the words suddenly turned into tangible pressure. Gu Yi's knees sank suddenly, and the glass curtain walls of the entire teaching building began to vibrate synchronously, and the reinforced concrete skeleton let out a whine under the heavy burden.
