Dragon Clan: Avoid the College Entrance Examination to Slay the Dragon
Chapter 25 Admissions Counseling
Chapter 25 Admissions Counseling
The hum of mechanical operation sounded in the carriage. Gu Yi looked out the window at the platform lights gradually slowing down, "Aren't we getting off the train?"
Su Yuqing's hair swept across her shoulders as she shook her head. "Wait, Professor Guderian."
Before he could finish his words, the metal door flew open. The old professor rushed in, clutching a brown paper bag. Inside, the gilded spine of "Dragon Genealogy" was revealed. "It's great that you're all here. Things are a bit... a bit chaotic on campus. Let's do some pre-admissions guidance."
He pushed up his tortoise-shell glasses that had slid down to the tip of his nose and led the two of them through the shaking carriage.
Guderian suddenly stopped in front of the crimson velvet curtain. The old man's skinny fingers grasped the edge of the curtain, and a strange light flashed in his eyes. "I won't ask whether you believe in the existence of dragons or not."
The curtain crashed down, the bronze frame reflecting a cold, dim light. Gu Yi's pupils suddenly constricted, a chill running down his spine pinning him to the spot. Chu Zihang's knuckles whitened as he gripped the armrest of the chair, his golden eyes blazing uncontrollably.
The sky was a cyan hue mingled with the color of flame. A single, massive tree stood tall, its dead branches stretching out in all directions, weaving a dense web that supported the cracked sky. The wasteland was strewn with dead bones. From the depths of the pile, a giant black beast rose, its wings covered in skulls. Spreading its massive, membrane-like wings, it thrust forward, emitting a burst of black flames.
The shrill roar resonated in Gu Yi's cranial cavity. It was not a sound wave transmitted through the eardrum, but more like an ancient echo engraved deep in his blood.
"What is this?" Gu Yi said with all his strength.
"The Dragon Emperor, the Black King Nidhogg." Guderian's bony fingers traced the edge of the picture frame. "The Old Edda states that when he bites through the last roots of Yggdrasil, the end of the world will come."
Gu Yi's gaze was fixed on the pair of burning dragon pupils. "Are you scholars studying the dragon heritage?"
"This is only part of our responsibility," Guderian held up a finger. "The true mission of Kassel Academy is to slay dragons."
"Slay the dragon? Aren't dragons already extinct?" Gu Yi was stunned.
"Death is but an eternal sleep for them," Guderian lamented. "High-level dragons, when on the verge of death, seal their bodies into 'cocoons'. When the stars reach a certain phase, these monsters return to the mortal world, brimming with rage. Over the past decade or so, the dragon race's resurgence has clearly accelerated."
"Why do dragons always attack humans?"
"Because the dragons hold a deep hatred for us humans." The old professor's voice suddenly became distant. "Every dragon scale is soaked in blood and hatred. Whenever they awaken from their cocoons, their first thought is to burn human civilization to ashes."
"Why do dragons hate humans so much?" Chu Zihang was puzzled.
"Before his death, Black King Nidhogg used his final authority to impose an eternal curse upon the dragon race—the Word Spirit Emperor—commanding that all dragons must kill all humans. This curse, like a genetic code, is etched into the bones of every dragon, forcing them to kill humans."
"Did it humans who killed Nidhogg?" Gu Yi asked. Only this could explain why Nidhogg hated humans so much.
"This will take a long time to talk about." Guderian waved his hand. "After school starts, you can choose to take Principal Ange's course "Dragon Family Genealogy and History." "Is our principal's name Ange?" Gu Yi noticed that Chu Zihang's tense shoulders relaxed slightly, but his pupils were always locked on the bronze picture frame.
"Yes, the principal's full name is Hilbert Jean Ange." Guderian suddenly straightened his chest and lightly touched the school emblem on his chest with his palm. The light cast shadows of varying depths on his face, but it couldn't hide the admiration that seethed in his eyes.
"He is not only a great dragon slayer, but also an educator who ignites the fire!"
"Then, Professor, who founded Kassel College?" Gu Yi asked. "I see the college has enormous financial resources. Who is behind it?"
Guderian nodded slightly. "For the two of you who have had prior experience with dragon events, it's certainly easier to explain than for the average student."
"This question dates back to medieval Europe. Back then, mixed-blood families known as 'Bloodborn' spread across the continent. They were both dragon slayers and feuding hyenas." The old professor's voice suddenly became steeped in history, as if he had traveled through centuries of bloodshed. "It wasn't until the sixteenth century that the remaining families forged the 'Blood Pact,' and thus the Camarilla—a continent-spanning dragon-slaying alliance—was born."
"In 1946, just as the embers of World War II were extinguished, the Cabal Elders reached a consensus that the major families and organizations could no longer be allowed to breed hybrids on their own. So, Kassel College was established in North America, with the most prestigious hero at the time, Hilbert Jean Angers, as the president. At the same time, an executive bureau was set up to deal with dragon incidents in the world." Guderian narrated.
Gu Yi frowned. "These are all Western. What about Chinese? Or are the mixed-bloods basically from Europe?"
Guderian waved his hand to calm Gu Yi down. "China is a major dragon settlement, just like Europe. But your situation is too complicated to explain in a short time. I'll keep it brief."
"China's mixed-race organization has been called 'Tianji' since ancient times. It has always been independent and has only been fully integrated with the world for over twenty years. In 1985, the secret party sent a representative, the president, to negotiate with Tianji, hoping to form an alliance and apply for a joint school. If Tianji agreed, they could even move the school from North America to China."
"And then?" Gu Yi offered a timely "supporting role"
"Then Tianji agreed to participate in the management of the Executive Bureau and also agreed to jointly run the school, but still required that the location of the school remain unchanged. Your people will go directly to North America to study."
"Why is that? Isn't it good to go to school right next to your home?" Gu Yi didn't understand. How could you refuse the benefits that were delivered to your doorstep?
"The Secret Party really wants to arrange the location in China, but Tianji said that it cannot accept a large number of foreign hybrids entering the country. At the same time, they stated that they are willing to help solve the problem of the global dragon revival and are willing to reorganize Tianji's national organization into an executive bureau. However, all matters on Chinese soil will still be decided by Tianji, and they will not accept guidance from foreign forces."
Guderian looked at the two of them. "The Executive Bureau's China Department must be no less prestigious than the Kassel headquarters and must be composed entirely of Chinese nationals. Personnel appointments, assignments, and finances must all be decided by Tianji. Two-thirds of the Chinese students graduating from Kassel each year must return to serve in the China Department."
"That's quite reasonable." Gu Yi nodded.
"It's indeed very reasonable. The secret party didn't expect the secrets to be so open-minded. The conditions are not excessive at all. Since then, a large number of Chinese teachers and students have entered Kassel, and Chinese students account for two-fifths of the total number of new students each year. A large number of Chinese commissioners have also appeared in the Executive Bureau."
