Dragon Clan: Avoid the College Entrance Examination to Slay the Dragon
Chapter 38 Fighting Lesson
Chapter 38 Fighting Lesson
On the path bathed in morning light, short chestnut hair cascaded down the girl's shoulders. Su Yuqing leaped backwards across the cracks between the bluestone bricks, her fingertips tapping the noses of each of them one by one. "How dare you two be late? You're being drafted into the welcome party now, aren't you?"
Finkel curled his lips and glanced in Gu Yi's direction, "It's all someone's fault. He said he would call me, but the alarm clock couldn't wake me up..." He deliberately dragged out the last syllable.
Upon hearing this, Gu Yi elbowed the other person in the ribs, neither too hard nor too soft. He turned to look at the girl who was bending down to wrap the silver chain around her wrist, one circle after another, and said, "Senior, you are taking this class too."
"Of course I'm a teaching assistant." Su Yuqing raised her work badge, reflecting the scattered sunlight, and the metal buckle jingled. "I have a lot of part-time jobs. I finished this course in my freshman year."
Gu Yi scratched the black hair that was sticking up at the back of his neck: "Will the welcome party be very tiring?"
The girl spun around to avoid the drooping wisteria branches and laughed clear and sweetly, "It's okay. I'm in the Arts Department. The director is very organized in arranging the work. You can go without worry."
Finger suddenly stood up straight by holding onto the brick wall. "Junior sister, can you earn credits and money as a teaching assistant?"
"Of course, otherwise who would be willing to be a teaching assistant?"
"Then I want to do it too!" Fingle's messy golden hair trembled with his movements.
"You?" Su Yuqing shook her head. "Those with higher credits are given priority. Brother, your credits are negative, right?"
Finger drooped immediately.
The shade of the tree behind her cracked into tiny pieces of gold foil. As the girl stepped backward into the shadows, she said, "But the principal made a last-minute change to the course material today. It's very in-depth. I think it's probably because of you, S-rank."
Finger ruffled his hair in pain. "I paid special attention to him, and then I was late because of him, and he's the principal! God bless me!"
Su Yuqing opened her phone and played the video of the two standing in the corner as punishment. Countless comments were flowing over them. "You two are famous again. The forum is full of pictures of you two standing in a row."
She turned to the silent black-haired boy, "Gu Yi, you have a combat class this afternoon, right? Be careful, I think a lot of freshmen want to fight you."
Finger suddenly grabbed Gu Yi's sleeve and said, "Junior brother, it seems that you will be surrounded this afternoon." He paused and grinned again, "But it doesn't matter. My junior brother can beat ten of them."
Gu Yi slowly pulled back his wrinkled sleeves, his amber pupils reflecting the bell tower in the distance. The bell on the top of the tower rang at this moment, and a flock of snow-white pigeons took off in response, and the sound of their flapping wings was like a tide flooding over the lawn.
Gu Yi looked at the flock of pigeons and said, "It's okay. I've been good at fighting since I was a child."
Su Yuqing smiled and retreated to the wisteria corridor. "Remember to go to class at two o'clock." She suddenly disappeared into the shadows of the flowers, and her voice, wrapped in the fragrance of wisteria, drifted towards her. "Many senior students will be there to observe, and I will also go to cheer you on!"
Gu Yi watched the last trace of white disappear behind the vines, then turned around and squinted at Finger, "What do you want to eat for lunch?"
"Let's have a steak or something." Finger rubbed his chin and suddenly lowered his voice and leaned closer. "I'll go cheer you on this afternoon and even hide in the freshman group so you won't be bored."
Gu Yi took a half step back to avoid the hot air blowing in his face, "How can you sneak in with your size?"
"Don't underestimate me, Senior. I got an A in the infiltration class!"
Gu Yi raised his hand and waved away the drooping vines. "Then let's go and find our senior brother. He also wants to take this class."
"Wait for me!" Finkel trotted over the spots of light, "Let me make it clear first, I want to eat Tomahawk steak with black truffle sauce—"
"I know! If you keep yelling, you'll have to eat pork knuckle!"
The sun hung high in the sky, its scorching rays bleaching the gray-green training ground. Fifty freshmen in black training uniforms stood like javelins in the center of the field. The outer perimeter was packed with upperclassmen, the metal guardrails creaking under the strain.
"Hello everyone. I'll be in charge of the combat training course this school year." The burly instructor paced with his hands behind his back, his combat boots making a crackling sound as they crunched through the gravel. A centipede-shaped scar ran across his bronze neck. "Scott Carson, Cassell Class of 1997. Now remember this name. I will be your combat training instructor this school year."
"Today's test is about combat. I believe many of you already have combat experience before entering Kassel. The specific rules..."
"report!"
The metal buckle on Scott's belt made a crisp sound as he turned. "Name?"
"Lancelot!" The blond youth raised a cloud of dust as he stepped out, sunlight streaming through his hair like liquid gold. "Permit me to ask a question—if we are facing dragons, why do we still need to learn human fighting techniques?"
"Good question." Scott chuckled, stroking his stubble. His hawk-like gaze pierced the ranks. "First, high-level dragons can transform into human form. Second—" He held up two fingers. "Your enemies aren't necessarily dragons. Among the enemies you'll face in the future, Deadpool isn't the only one. It's not uncommon to find hybrids who have been bewitched by dragon power, or even serve powerful dragon beings."
There were discussions coming from the sidelines.
"Any questions?"
"Report to the instructor, no!" Lancelot's heels clashed together, making a crisp sound.
"You go first. Step out." Scott pointed to the circular sand pit in the center of the training ground. "As per convention, active challenges are allowed in the test match. The rules are unlimited fighting until the opponent loses consciousness or surrenders. But be careful not to attack vital parts such as the eyes."
He paused, "Because it's difficult to cure."
The crowd erupted in thunderous cheers, the metal railings clanging from the jostling. Lancelot unsheathed his sword and tossed it to the sidelines, his training uniform rustling in the heat. "I'm a swordsman, but I also have some experience in hand-to-hand combat. I'm applying to challenge the freshman, Chu Zihang."
Countless gazes shot like arrows toward the back of the crowd. Chu Zihang was half-crouching on the ground, playing rock-paper-scissors with Gu Yi and Finger. Their palms cast interlaced shadows on the sand.
Deafening waves of laughter swept over the sky above the playground.
"Me?" The black-haired boy looked up blankly.
Finkel pushed him hard on the back while holding back his laughter. When Chu Zihang stumbled and fell into the sand pit, two gray handprints were printed on the back of his training uniform.
Scott folded his arms and examined the challenged man, who was dusting himself off. "Do you accept the challenge?"
"Accept the challenge." Chu Zihang replied, then took off his training uniform jacket.
"Beat him up!"
"The odds are open! The blond guy's odds are 3 times!"
"Those who are suppressing Chu Zihang come here!"
Amidst the roaring noises, Scott retreated to the sidelines. Sand crunched under the soles of their boots, and the hot wind blew Lancelot's blond hair as he stared intently at Chu Zihang.
"The day has finally come."
