Dragon Clan: Avoid the College Entrance Examination to Slay the Dragon
Chapter 54: Rapid Chase
Chapter 54: Rapid Chase
Caesar glanced at the rearview mirror and saw an M249 machine gun raised from the sunroof of the first vehicle in the pursuit convoy. The black muzzle was like a venomous snake with its head raised high.
"Damn it!"
He unbuckled the seatbelt with one hand and threw the Desert Eagle into Gu Yi's arms, "Take it and suppress them."
Gu Yi hesitated for a moment, but still took the gun, turned around, and continuously pulled the trigger, firing fiercely at the rear.
Seven .50 bullets plowed a burning trail in the humid air. The first one grazed the machine gunner's head, the second shattered the left rearview mirror of the following car, the next two missed without a trace, the fifth hit the bus stop sign, and the seventh simply disappeared into the darkness at the end of the street.
The machine gunner even loosened his grip and gave them an upside-down middle finger. He immediately returned fire, the flames from the M249's muzzle tearing holes into the rear bumper of the sports car.
Caesar swerved to avoid the strafing. A stray bullet struck the car's air conditioning vent, sending shards of plastic grazing his furious face. "Are you kidding me? At least hit the person or the car! Where's that momentum you had when you killed someone with your chopsticks?"
"Shut up--!"
Gu Yi's face flushed crimson, his golden pupils igniting into two clusters of dark flames amidst the violent turbulence. "Do you have any cold weapons?"
Caesar swung out a tactical dagger with a halberd from the inside of his windbreaker: "I just found it on the waistband of the corpse. Throw it accurately."
Time unfolded, and the halos of the neon signs on both sides of the street condensed into suspended bands of light. Gu Yi stared at the driver of the pursuing vehicle. With a flick of his wrist, the blade spun, piercing the windshield of the following car and piercing the driver's forehead.
The steering wheel swung sharply to the right as the body leaned forward. The over-a-ton vehicle flipped sideways in a state of loss of control, its chassis rubbing against the asphalt, sending dazzling sparks flying. Finally, it crashed through a fire hydrant and veered off the road, igniting a blazing flame in the green belt.
"There are still six left!" Gu Yi wiped the blood from his nose, and his retina still had a burning sensation caused by excessive use of the Word Spirit.
In the rearview mirror, the pursuing convoy suddenly dispersed, and the eight-cylinder engine of a modified Hummer roared like a monster, and the xenon headlights were getting closer and closer to him.
Caesar pounded the steering wheel. "Is this thing equipped with a space engine? It's so fast?"
The gauge needle vibrated wildly in the red restricted zone, the distance between the two cars shrinking to five meters. The chrome skull decoration on the Hummer's hood glowed coldly, like the bared teeth of the Grim Reaper.
"Hold the car steady!"
Gu Yi held the car frame tightly with his left hand and leaned out. His black hair, soaked in blood, was blown to his cheek by the strong wind outside the car. His right hand grabbed the rearview mirror bracket.
Caesar was shocked, "What are you going to do--" Before he could finish his words, the chrome alloy frame fell into Gu Yi's palm with the sound of metal threads tearing.
Time unfolded again, and the noisy world suddenly sank into the deep sea. The howling of the wind, the roar of the engines, and the crisp sound of falling shells all solidified into a buzzing white noise.
The rearview mirror was thrown out violently.
The instant time returned to normal, a five-kilogram metal component transformed into a silvery ray and pierced the cab. The driver's head exploded like a watermelon struck by a sledgehammer, skull fragments and brain matter scattering in a bloody haze inside the cabin. The Humvee, losing control, veered sharply to the left.
The uncontrolled steel behemoth's roll left a thirty-meter-long chain of flames, and a Humvee behind it, unable to avoid it, was swept into the storm of metal. The wreckage of the two vehicles, like building blocks kicked over by a child, rolled across the street in a torrent of metal. The burning wreckage rolled into the darkened shops on the roadside, reducing the luxury goods display booths to a sea of fire.
"There are only four left now." Gu Yi slumped into the seat, blood dripping from his nostrils creating dark red patterns on the leather. His overdrawn Word Spirit was taking a toll, and he felt a splitting headache and flashes of light before his eyes.
"Don't you want to live? If you keep using the Word Spirit, you'll die!" Caesar roared, swerving the steering wheel with his left hand to drive over the cracks in the road. The hot rod in pursuit closed in, its xenon headlights casting their shadows on the abandoned billboard.
Gu Yi twitched his lips and tried to curse back, but the sudden pain in his temple made him curl up into a hunch. Fragments of a broken image suddenly pierced his mind: snow... heavy snow all over the sky... fire, a huge fire rising into the sky. "Damn it..."
The fragment before Gu Yi's eyes was shattered by the sharp sound of metal colliding. The parallel Hummer suddenly deviated, and the three-ton steel beast rammed the sports car with its side, sparks from the anti-collision bar splashed between the two cars like a waterfall.
Caesar's right hand was bulging with veins as he twisted the steering wheel until it screamed. With his left hand, he pulled out the Desert Eagle and fired three shots at the opponent's front tire.
Amid the muffled sound of rubber bursting, the Hummer staggered like a buffalo with its tendons cut, and the front of the car almost lost control and hit the curb.
Caesar's golden eyes lit up, he raised his gun and aimed sideways, three gunshots tore through the night sky, the second .50 bullet ripped open the co-pilot's crown, and the red and white mixture radially splashed all over the bulletproof glass; the third bullet penetrated the driver's Adam's apple, and blood spurted out from the back of his neck.
"Cough cough cough" the driver clutched his broken throat tightly with both hands, and the out-of-control Hummer's front suddenly raised up, flipping in the air like a beheaded beast. When the three-ton wreckage finally lay on its side on the shoulder of the road, the gasoline leaking from the fuel tank was winding along the drainage ditch into a red stream.
Gazing at the rearview mirror, which reflected the rapidly decreasing headlights of his pursuers, Caesar shook his numbed jaws and said, "There are only three left."
He thought again of the killer in the restaurant who had been shot in the head with chopsticks and then disappeared - these people's pursuit was abnormally persistent.
Caesar turned the steering wheel sideways and the sports car rushed out of the main road. In the rearview mirror, two black SUVs were sticking RPG launchers out of the sunroofs. The roof of the third modified car was suddenly lifted up, and the six barrels of the rotary machine gun began to warm up.
Gu Yi looked back at the pursuing vehicle and said, "Using heavy firepower now shows that they really want to capture us alive."
"Madman! So many people have died and they're still chasing us. Who did we offend?" Caesar cursed. "Did Walker's helicopter take off from the moon? We're going to die!"
The vibration of the tires rolling over the cracks in the road suddenly disappeared, and the asphalt road turned into an endless black ice field in the headlights.
Gu Yi leaned back and looked at the dark sky—no moonlight, no neon lights, only the roar of the engine tearing through the sticky darkness.
The hum of the propeller suddenly penetrated his ear canal.
He jerked himself upright, his sight revealing three silver streaks swooping down through the clouds. Was that the rescue Walker had mentioned? Or perhaps a more deadly hunt?
"A dead leaf butterfly with broken wings that can't find a flower..."
The cell phone rang and Gu Yi picked up the phone.
"We're here, get out of the kill zone as soon as possible." Walker's voice was mixed with the hissing sound of channel interference.
The first red lotus bloomed suddenly twenty meters behind.
The heat wave pushed the sports car forward two meters, and the rearview mirror framed a burning doomsday scene: the chassis of the pursuit car rose vertically in the fireball, the car doors curled and peeled off like pieces of paper, and four charred figures fell into the sea of fire dancing.
The remaining two vehicles twisted madly, their tires leaving scorched, smelly Z-shaped trails on the ground. Two more flashes of cold blue flame flashed in the sky, like the Grim Reaper striking a match behind the clouds. Two missiles, trailing comet tails, swooped down, their precise kisses touching the hoods. The moment the steel behemoths erupted into a boiling molten metal, sending gears and bone fragments soaring into the mushroom cloud.
Caesar slammed the brakes, sending the car swerving seven meters sideways. The smell of burnt rubber and the stench of burning human flesh filled the cabin. He leaned over the steering wheel, coughing violently. "Walker, you're so fucking good at coughing!"
