Dragon Clan: Avoid the College Entrance Examination to Slay the Dragon

Chapter 7 Analysis
Lu Mingfei slumped in his chair, scratching his erect hair. "How could such a thing happen? This world is truly abnormal."
Gu Yi's fingers, which were stroking the rim of the cup, suddenly stopped: "You don't think I'm making this up?"
"Come on, I've known you for five years, I can tell when you're lying. Bolt just ran 9.72 seconds yesterday, but when we tested your physical limits in freshman year of high school, you were a lot faster than he is now!" He suddenly grabbed the sugar cube jar and slammed it onto the table. "If this were a normal human, I'd eat the sugar cube jar raw!"
The brown liquid in Gu Yi's hand created tiny ripples on the porcelain surface. "When I came to my senses, I was already kneeling in the middle of the highway, holding Grandpa. The asphalt was steaming, and horns were honking from all directions. I don't know how I got out."
Lu Mingfei rolled his eyes. "You're so bloodthirsty that you've scared the monsters out of their wits. Hurry and send this giant Buddha out."
"Maybe, but then..." Gu Yi's voice was filled with chills. "From the teachers at school to the neighbors, everyone only remembered that Grandpa had suddenly become seriously ill and was hospitalized. It was like an eraser was revising reality. I called the families of the victims, and when they answered the phone, they all said that their loved ones had died ten years ago."
Lu Mingfei took a deep breath, "What did the police say?"
"The case was closed that afternoon, and it was said to be caused by the driver's fatigue."
Lu Mingfei asked somewhat nervously: "So what about your grandfather now..."
Gu Yi lowered his eyes as the waiter passed by with freshly baked scones. He waited until the sweet aroma of cream drifted away before he spoke, "Not good. He's still unconscious, and his wounds are having trouble healing. The blood is slowly turning black."
A light drizzle suddenly began to fall outside the glass curtain wall. Lu Mingfei stared at the rim of his coffee cup. "Good luck will come to those who are lucky. There will always be a way."
"I hope so too," Gu Yi suddenly opened his collar, revealing the wound on his shoulder that had not yet fully healed. "After leaving school yesterday, I was dragged into that place again."
Lu Mingfei opened his eyes wide: "Did he come out after killing his way through this time too?"
Gu Yi nodded, and Lu Mingfei dug his nails into the leather of the sofa armrest. "So what should we do?"
Outside the glass curtain wall, cumulonimbus clouds rolled like ink, and silence spread between the two people.
Lu Mingfei stared at the dark bloodstain oozing from Gu Yi's collar and suddenly jumped up as if he had been electrocuted. "Oh right! You went to see your grandfather this afternoon, right?"
Gu Yi was forced back by the splattered coffee stains, "Yeah, what are you going to do?"
"I don't think science can solve these problems." Lu Mingfei took out his phone and opened it. The blue light from the screen made his pupils shine. "This requires metaphysics."
A bluish-white light flashed outside the glass curtain wall, illuminating Gu Yi's tense profile with a pale glow. "Metaphysics?"
"The Yunyin Temple in the east of the city is incredibly popular." Lu Mingfei held the phone close to him. "The calico cat that Aunt Zhang lost last week was found there. I heard the abbot can see the cause and effect."
"Feudal superstition," Gu Yi muttered, turning his head away. The rain suddenly intensified, the crackling sound of countless pebbles hitting the glass. His wrist suddenly ached. Lu Mingfei clenched his fingers like an iron hoop. "Then could you please use Fourier transform to deduce how you were dragged into this other dimension and used as a human punching bag?"
He dragged Gu Yi towards the door and said, "I'll pay for the incense money, you just kowtow."
Gu Yi stumbled and grabbed the door handle, "Now? Where did you get the money?"
The raindrops pouring in from outside fluttered against Lu Mingfei's trembling eyelashes. He lowered his head and tugged at the drawstring of his hoodie. "I've noticed you haven't been feeling well lately, and I think Grandpa might be dying. So I stole some of the living expenses my parents gave me from my aunt."
"Are you crazy?" Gu Yi grabbed Lu Mingfei with his backhand, "You forgot about the time you bought a video game console secretly and got beaten? Aren't you afraid?"
"I'm scared!" Lu Mingfei suddenly shook off his hand, raindrops trickling down his trembling eyelashes, "But I'm even more scared." The last syllable dissipated in the honking of horns coming from far and near on the street.
"What are you afraid of?" Gu Yi was a little curious.
"What do you care!" The boy suddenly jumped up, his wet bangs sticking to his red forehead. "I'll pay, you go, that's all!"
---
Li Chengze slammed the document down on the table, the pages scraping harshly against the metal surface. "A serious car accident. All information about the victims and survivors has been deleted, and the license plate has been deliberately erased. This report lacks even the most basic elements. It's like trying to fool a three-year-old!"
Chen Jianguo's calloused fingers repeatedly stroked the edge of the report, a deep furrow forming between his brows. The collar of the veteran detective's uniform was soaked with sweat.
"Captain Chen, you're in charge of the city's criminal investigation work." Li Chengze suddenly leaned forward, his interrogation-like gaze piercing the other man's pupils. "Are you really completely clueless?"
"I swear on my thirty years of police service," Chen Jianguo said, his voice hoarse. "If it weren't for this report today, I wouldn't even know there was an accident on the elevated highway. This doesn't make sense."
At this time, the rustling sound of flipping papers came from the corner, and the technician complained: "There is no such case in the electronic archive! The police call record, the scene photos, the hospital admission record... None of them exist! The file bag is also empty." He held up the empty blue file bag, and the red stamp on the seal was bright and glaring.
A man in black suddenly approached. "Chengze, there are over ten casualties, yet there's no news online. The survivors have vanished into thin air." He lowered his voice, suppressing a tremor in his throat. "I don't think this is something a hybrid could do. Something has distorted reality without our knowledge, altering the perceptions of at least thousands, perhaps tens of thousands, of people. This is a serious matter. Should we report it to the bureau... no, should we report it to 'Tianji'?"
"Wait a minute." Li Chengze waved his hand, turning his attention back to the report. "Everything they do leaves traces. It's obvious they can't completely erase the entire incident. Although we only have this investigative report, which is riddled with errors and omissions, it helps us narrow down the scope."
"Municipal Hospital, Elevated Highway Management Office..." He raised a finger after each word. "We need to work on multiple fronts. We need to quickly investigate the source of the fabric fragments found by the Evidence Department."
Li Chengze glanced out the window. The rainy season in the south is always like this. There were only a few sunny days in the morning, and now it is cloudy and rainy again.
