Chapter 29: The Aftermath of the Battle, Backwards
Chapter 29: The Aftermath of the Battle, a Thousand Miles Back
In this battle, Khufu's Undead Empire suffered heavy losses.
The second largest pyramid, the Pyramid of Khafre, was suppressed, the third pyramid, the Pyramid of Menkaure, exploded, and the rest of the small pyramids were all buried. Only the Pyramid of Khufu, where he was, escaped with difficulty.
Only one in ten of his undead lords survived, and even the strongest supreme lord, the Sphinx, did not survive.
Inside the wizard tower at the border of the desert, the crystal observation device emitted a sharp buzzing sound.
The mages stationed here looked solemnly at the distant horizon. The yellow sand surged like raging waves, and every vibration was accompanied by heart-pounding energy fluctuations.
What they could see was that the pyramids in the distance were collapsing one after another.
Those once towering behemoths, symbols of the Undead Empire's eternal rule, were now being dragged into the abyss by invisible hands, slowly sinking beneath the surging waves of sand. A dark green netherworld fire erupted from the cracks in the collapsed pyramids, only to be suppressed and extinguished in the next instant by an even greater force.
Across North Africa, people felt the ground shaking.
When the earth finally calms down and you can see the sun disk standing high in the sky and the disappearing pyramids from afar, you will know which side has won.
At dawn, the alarm bells of the Magic Castle in Cape of Good Hope shattered the tranquility of the coastline.
When the tenth bell was still echoing among the cliffs, nine figures wearing star robes had gathered in the circular meeting hall.
On the central obsidian table, a new sand table depicting the Sahara border was displayed. The gray markings representing the Undead Empire had been erased, replaced by the golden markings representing the Desert Empire.
"A three thousand mile buffer zone. Countries close to the Sahara Desert are ordered to retreat three thousand miles, leaving a three thousand mile buffer zone, and all cities within the area are abandoned." The gray-robed old man sitting in the first seat tapped the table with his fingertips.
"Are you going to give up so easily?" said another old man sitting in the third seat. His hair was completely gray and his words were full of fatigue.
"Master Xiu, I know you are unhappy, but we have to do this." said a female mage on the right. She is a top mage with full cultivation of four elements.
"You witnessed that battle with your own eyes," she said, her voice like a taut harp string, each syllable trembling with suppressed force. "Khufu's undead legions, those terrifying beings that we once had to unite many mages to barely resist, crumbled like sandcastles before the Desert Empire."
"You've seen the reply from the Holy City and other continents. They're unwilling to send even symbolic reinforcements. Retreating now and evacuating as soon as possible can prevent unnecessary casualties during the demonic invasion."
The other mages sitting at the table also did not say anything, apparently having tacitly agreed to this move.
As Elder Xiu slowly rose, his bony fingers gently brushed the cracked forbidden spell badge on his chest. "Thirty-two years ago, I accepted my last student in Egypt," the old man's voice was hoarse, yet it strangely pierced the heavy atmosphere in the meeting room. "That child should still be in the First Observation Tower in the North."
"You're right. Retreat is wise." He looked up, a sharp light flashing in his cloudy eyes. "But someone has to tell those demons that human land cannot be taken away just because they want it. They will have to pay a price."
"Master Xiu?"
The gray-robed old man sitting at the head said, "Let him go."
"You should arrange the relocation of some cities as soon as possible."
There is no particularly powerful wizard country in the magical civilization map of the African continent. As the last guardian, the Cape of Good Hope Castle has taken on the decision-making responsibility of the entire continent.
Egypt is already very powerful. They have been resisting the invasion of the undead and some snakes and demons for many years. This time, seeing the powerful Undead Empire collapse, they naturally have no objection to the decision of the Cape of Good Hope Demon Castle.
After the order to evacuate was issued, a mass exodus began in towns along the North African border. On the streets, residents silently packed their bags, their eyes devoid of resistance, only a deep sense of exhaustion and helplessness. These people living along the border were the first to experience the earth-shattering demonic clash.
However, outside the migrating group, there are always some hunched figures who stubbornly stay.
Most of them are elderly people, sitting on the doorsteps of their homes, stroking the mottled wall tiles with their rough hands.
"My father is buried here, and so is my grandfather," a white-haired old man shook his head at the mage who came to persuade him, "If the desert wants to swallow us, let it swallow us."
Their reasons for refusing to leave are so different, yet so similar.
For these elderly people, the land beneath their feet is not only their home, but also the home of their memories. Even though they know what it means to stay, they still choose to live and die with this land.
When the last migrating group went away, these old figures still sat quietly in the empty town, like faded statues, watching silently.
The Desert Emperor stood in the sky, overlooking the vast territory beneath his feet.
Khufu's empire of the dead has collapsed, and the dark light that once graced the edge of the Sahara has been completely dispelled, replaced by scorching sunlight.
However, to his surprise, the human reaction was much more intense than he expected.
Three thousand miles of territory, humans voluntarily retreated three thousand miles of land, towns moved, and defense lines retreated.
Azir frowned slightly.
He had never thought of targeting these human kingdoms, at least not at the moment.
"What a waste of time." He whispered, and his voice dissipated in the wind. Unfortunately, no human could hear it.
His gaze went beyond the boundaries of humankind and headed towards more distant places - the Siren Dynasty in the depths of the Atlantic Ocean, the forbidden monsters in the Great Rift Valley of East Africa, the powerful creatures lurking in the Congo rainforest... These were his real targets.

Two weeks have passed since the Bo crisis, and reconstruction work in the city is nearing completion.
On the streets, workers were repairing the last few damaged walls, military mages removed most of the warning barriers, and members of the Hunter Alliance also returned to the wild to carry out their missions.
The whole city gradually regained its former vitality, as if the thrilling crisis had never happened.
It was midsummer, and many students at Tianlan Magic School were immersed in the joy of the holiday - some went to the West Lake together, some spent time in cold drink shops, and some had a relaxing competition in the arena.
Qin Xiaonan was practicing hard using magic weapons.
I looked up at the calendar on the wall and saw that there were still forty days before the new semester started.
"Within forty days, we must achieve a breakthrough."
As long as he reaches the intermediate level, he can apply for early graduation and enter university. He doesn't want to continue wasting time in Bo City.
The crisis in Bo City has been resolved, and he already has a new plan in mind.
