Game of Thrones: I am Dothraki, not a barbarian
Chapter 82 Renly's Jealousy
Chapter 82 Renly's Jealousy
For a moment, the air seemed to freeze. Ned's heart skipped a beat and he swallowed back everything he wanted to say.
Robert's eyes widened, his face flushed, and in an instant, his anger swept over him like a storm.
"boom!"
He kicked over the long oak table in front of him, spilling the food and wine all over the floor. Lancel Lannister, the servant who was helping him tidy up his armor, was so scared that he hid far away, shrinking his neck, fearing that the king's anger would burn him.
"Rahalo! That damned Dothraki barbarian, I finally found him!
A barbarian who only knows how to burn, kill, and plunder could actually defeat the Golden Group and plot against Pentos? He must not be allowed to continue living in this world!
Robert was full of murderous intent, with veins bulging on his forehead, like an angry stag, about to tear the enemy to pieces!
"Send the order immediately!"
Robert walked over, grabbed Lancel by the collar, and pulled the terrified young man in front of him, saying with a breath of alcohol:
"Rally the army immediately! I will personally lead the army to capture Pentos and show that damned barbarian who is king!"
Lancel was pushed to the ground by Robert, but he quickly got up and fled.
Ned stared at the furious king, his lips pressed into a line, and he sighed inwardly.
Robert is no longer the vigorous conqueror he once was, but a tyrant whose mind is clouded by alcohol and hatred.
He didn't even know that his own backyard was on fire, but just wanted to ignite another war.
Upon hearing the news, the important ministers of the Imperial Council rushed to the tent and saw Robert leaning on the bed with an empty wine glass in his hand. His eyes were bloodshot and he was no longer able to hold his liquor.
"Robert, be patient."
Ned gazed at his former comrade. "That barbarian is far away in Essos. A cross-sea battle would require a vast amount of supplies. Besides, he has no direct grudge against you. Starting a war now would do more harm than good!"
"fart!"
Robert suddenly stood up, smashed his wine glass to the ground, and roared, "Rahlo is the husband of that Targaryen bitch, and now he wants to take Pentos. Do you know what this means? He will attack King's Landing soon!"
Ned knew that what Robert said was absolutely right, and how weak his rebuttal was.
He had anticipated that the union of Dothraki and Targaryen would eventually become a serious threat, but he did not expect that things would develop so quickly and at such a coincidental timing.
Rhaeholor's capture of Pentos means that the Dothraki are no longer just plunderers on the grasslands, they have learned to govern city-states!
"That bitch will give birth to a dragon sooner or later!" Robert waved his arms angrily, his bloodshot eyes scanning everyone, "Tell me, who can take such a threat lightly?!
Will you regret it only after the Dothraki cavalry appear at the gates of King's Landing?"
Ned bowed his head and said nothing.
Robert has his own unquestionable reasons, and he can never quench the Targaryen family's desire for the Iron Throne.
However, Ned always believed that the kingdom's real enemy was not only Rhallor in Essos, but also the Lannister family nearby.
To fight against foreign enemies, one must first stabilize the country. However, Robert could not say to everyone that his three children were not his biological children.
Ned looked around at everyone, thinking they would dissuade the king, but unexpectedly no one spoke at this moment, and they all became silent.
"I agree with His Majesty's decision."
After a long silence, Varys was the first to break the silence. His tone was filled with sadness, but no one knew why.
Others may not understand Laharo, but he knows very well how ambitious this man is and how many military achievements he has made. He is even more powerful than the king when he was young.
At the Battle of the Trident, Robert shattered Prince Rhaegar's breastplate with his warhammer, a feat he boasted about for years, but compared to the sea monster skeleton in Pentos Harbor, it was nothing.
What made him even more heartbroken was that Illyrio, his close friend of more than 30 years, was hanged on the city wall by Rhallor and pierced by thousands of arrows! He wanted revenge!
"Rahlor is certainly a threat, but that doesn't mean we must go to war now," Ned continued, trying to convince the king. "Pentos is a thousand miles from Westeros. The odds of victory are too low if we wage a long expedition."
"Lord Ned, you are overly cautious." Littlefinger chuckled. "A war can make many things easier."
"War never makes things easy." Ned frowned.
"Laharo hasn't established a firm foothold in Pentos yet. If we don't take action now, we won't have another chance in the future."
Little Finger shrugged, stepped aside and said nothing more.
Chaos is a ladder, which these dukes who were born with silver spoons in their mouths certainly cannot understand.
"Rahlo must die!" Renly's tone was surprisingly firm. "He threatened the royal family, and anyone who dares to threaten the royal family must be eliminated!"
Laharo killed three of his guard knights in the Long Table Hall, causing him to lose face among the princes. This grudge had been formed a long time ago.
There were even rumors in Highgarden that his fiancée, Margaery Tyrell, had mentioned Rhallor during a conversation, and actually seemed to have a favorable impression of his enemy!
Although he likes men, he will never allow other men to have any improper thoughts about the future duchess or even the future queen, and vice versa!
Lord Renly's reputation must not be tarnished!
Grand Maester Pycelle took several minutes to tidy up the tangled chains on his chest, then he cleared his throat and spoke slowly.
"A maester's duty is to serve the common good, not just the ruler. Just as I served King Robert loyally, I also served King Aerys without any hatred for his daughter. I served the greater good."
No one knew he was Lord Tywin's man, so helping Cersei was his duty. He twirled his long white beard, put on a compassionate look, and continued:
"I need to ask you something, Prime Minister.
If the Dothraki set foot on Westeros again, how many soldiers would die on the battlefield? How many villages and towns would be burned? How many children would be ripped from their mothers' arms and enslaved?
Wouldn't it be wiser to nip the Dothraki ambitions in the bud in Pentos?"
Robert looked at his Hand with a smug look on his face. "Ned, that's it. Five to one, and you're the only one opposing it. The only question left is, when do we send our troops?"
Ned glanced at everyone helplessly. Everyone was encouraging Robert to go on the expedition out of selfish motives, and no one was truly thinking about the kingdom.
"Robert, you are the king and cannot go to Essos!" Ned tried to make a last-ditch effort. "You must stay in King's Landing!"
"You think I'm too old to mount a horse?" Robert patted his belly. "I'm the hero of the Trident, Ned. You don't think I'd let anyone take Rhaelor's head, do you?"
Ned knew that he could no longer persuade Robert, but if Robert left King's Landing, only Cersei and her family would be left here, and they would never miss this opportunity to consolidate their power.
But he was worried about his friend going on the expedition alone, so he said in a deep voice, "If you must fight this battle, I will go with you."
Robert looked at him in surprise and laughed. "You finally understand, Ned! This is the Wolf of the North I know!"
Ned did not respond. He did not support Robert's war, but he had to do so.
I wanted to tell Robert about Cersei and her three children, but now it seems I can't tell him.
If war is unavoidable, at least he must be by Robert's side. With the army around him, even if the Lannisters have any unreasonable wishes, they have to consider whether they can win.
Ser Barristan stood straight, stroking the hilt of his sword. "Your Majesty, it is honorable to engage the enemy in battle, but it is equally important to defend King's Landing.
If you and the Hand go to Pentos, I must stay in King's Landing and take your place!"
