Chapter 129 Farewell to Adulthood
Chapter 129 Farewell to Adulthood
Yan Hui dared to take on this business, of course he had his own plans.
He has orders in hand, and after going to Yichun, he'll try to find someone to share them. If that doesn't work, he can look for opportunities at the forest farm. With orders on hand, there should still be people willing to cooperate.
If all else fails, he might eventually go to Fengtian to ask his fourth uncle for help.
Fourth Uncle wouldn't refuse such an order, but in this situation, Yan Hui himself would earn very little money, only two or three thousand yuan per wagon, which wasn't what he really wanted; it was just the worst-case scenario.
In short, having orders is always a good thing!
The first order wasn't for raw timber; it was for standard boards. Although Mr. Teng's processing plant had the capability, it was only so-so. It would actually be easier for them to do secondary processing on standard boards.
This is the contract Yan Hui has always wanted; with each additional step, he could potentially earn a little more money.
Yan Hui stayed in Jianye for another two or three days and bought his train ticket for the weekend.
On Saturday, at Xinhua Bookstore, Yan Hui told Su Jin about his situation.
"You're going to Yichun? Where is that?" Upon hearing this, Su Jin took out a map of China and started looking for Yichun.
"Here." Yan Hui pointed to the north.
Yichun is not well-known, even less so than its neighbor Hegang, but it is indeed one of the most important timber producing areas and can be considered the source of timber.
"My goodness, it's so far!" Su Jin's voice was a little loud, and the people reading next to her glanced at her.
Seeing that she was a pretty young girl, the person who had been glancing at her took a few more glances.
"It is a bit far, but there's no other way. That's how business is done." Yan Hui shook his head slightly.
"Is it safe for you to go there? I heard that things are really chaotic in the Northeast, with people fighting each other at night, and some even carrying guns," Su Jin said with some concern.
“I have friends over there, and didn’t I spend two years in Northeast China before?” Yan Hui looked around and said softly, “This isn’t a place to chat. Let’s go to the door.”
"Let's go for a walk by the river." Su Jin nodded.
The two walked and talked along the way. Yan Hui had already decided to go to the Northeast, but the timing was uncertain, which naturally made Su Jin a little sad.
During this time, Su Jin had become Yan Hui's best friend in Jianye, and Su Jin felt the same way. Eating together, reading together, and sharing stories made them truly happy.
"If all goes well, I'll actually be back a little later," Yan Hui said, but that wasn't what he really thought.
Whether things go smoothly or not, he won't be back anytime soon; he has to work hard to get everything done.
“Then I hope you come back later. It’s only April now. Can you come back in July, when I’m on summer vacation? That’s not a short time.” Su Jin said, looking at Yan Hui.
"I'm not sure. I'll do my best." Yan Hui was still just a child, and no elder could protect or care for him in business.
Sometimes, he really envied his uncle's son.
Yan Hui's uncle has two sons, his eldest cousin and his second cousin. He's not particularly close to either of them, not as close as to his eldest cousin. His cousin told him that his uncle had given him about 600,000 yuan in cash over the past two years to support his business venture. This kind of thing is truly enviable; if Yan Hui had 100,000 yuan in start-up capital, he wouldn't have to worry about anything now. However, Yan Hui also heard that his eldest cousin is still losing money.
"It's a pity it's too far. My parents definitely won't agree to me visiting you during the summer vacation." Su Jin sighed softly to herself, feeling a little empty.
Su Jin has been having a great time lately, looking forward to the weekends and her lessons with Yan Hui. She hadn't particularly liked physics before, but because of her lessons with Yan Hui, she'd been studying it diligently and her grades had improved significantly. But if Yan Hui left, who would she teach?
"Oh?" Yan Hui was touched when he heard this. "Please don't! It's too far. I'm worried about you coming alone. It takes at least 40 hours by train!"
"You must be careful since it's so far away."
"Don't worry, I'm an adult, what's there to be afraid of?" Yan Hui was actually looking forward to the journey that would take dozens of hours.
"You're an adult?" Su Jin stopped in her tracks immediately upon hearing this. "Last time I asked you about your birthday, you said you'd tell me when it was coming up! When is your birthday anyway? Why didn't you tell me it's already passed? How could you do this!"
Su Jin was really angry. She clenched her fists, and her eyes seemed to be spitting fire.
It's your 18th birthday, why don't you tell yourself?
"It's my birthday tomorrow," Yan Hui said with a smile. "Before I set off, I'll be an adult!"
"Tomorrow!" Su Jin's anger vanished instantly. "You should have told me sooner! I haven't prepared a gift for you yet!"
"No, no, I'm just worried that if you keep thinking about it, it will interfere with your studies. You have school tomorrow afternoon, so I was thinking of having lunch together tomorrow. Didn't you say last time that you wanted to buy a cake for your birthday? I'll buy one tomorrow." Yan Hui already had a plan.
"No, I'll buy it for you! I have money! Also, I'm not going to school tomorrow night, I need to ask for leave from evening self-study. You...you can't refuse me." Su Jin's emotions were incredibly complicated at this moment.
Birthdays are certainly joyous occasions, and turning 18 is certainly worth celebrating, but the sadness of parting is still strong, and this feeling of reconciliation makes it difficult for Su Jin to let go for a while.
"I'll write to you as soon as I get to Yichun. I'll tell you everything then, and you can write to me too," Yan Hui said, seeing Su Jin's state and offering words of comfort.
"Definitely! Tell me your address first, and I'll go home and write it now. You'll receive it soon when you arrive," Su Jin suggested. Thinking of this, she felt a little excited, feeling that Yan Hui would be very happy to see her letter when he arrived.
"I don't know exactly where I'll be staying yet. I'll tell you when I get there. I'll call you then."
"It's a date then. When are you leaving? When will you arrive?"
"We'll depart on Monday and arrive on Wednesday."
“Okay, then I’ll be waiting by the phone at 10 p.m. Wednesday. Just let me know you’re safe. If you haven’t arrived by Wednesday night, I’ll wait until Thursday,” Su Jin said quickly.
"Okay, then you can wait for me for five minutes at most. I'll call you as soon as I arrive. If I don't call, it just means the car is late," Yan Huiyi promised.
"Okay, pinky promise." Su Jin extended her little finger.
Along the riverbank, a young man and woman strolled slowly, neither knowing what the future held, but at that moment they only wished time would slow down.
It would be better if it were a little slower.
