Journey 1995:Non-Stop

Chapter 329 Minor Injury

Chapter 329 Minor Injury
Most of the workers here go home to stay at night because the construction site doesn't have the money to build that many dormitories.

In addition to the two temporary prefabricated houses he gave to the factory manager, Yan Hui also built a temporary dormitory that could only accommodate eight people. Initially, Yan Hui tried to recruit workers from nearby areas to save costs, but now there's a problem: the construction site is severely understaffed at night!
To save money, Yan Hui was unable to build a complete fence around the entire construction site; most areas were simply enclosed by poles and ropes.

The cost of building a wall over 1000 meters long on this 80-acre plot of land is simply too high. It can only be completed after the company is up and running. In other words, Yan Hui's construction site is a "budget-friendly" one.

Although he scared the person away today, Yan Hui couldn't sleep at all. It's not the theft itself that's scary, it's having someone eyeing you!
A batch of building materials has already been delivered to the construction site. These materials are not cheap. The goods currently on the site are worth about 100,000 yuan. As for the machinery, none of them belong to Yan Hui. They are all rented. If even one machine is lost, it would be a real disaster!
The machinery is manageable; starting tomorrow, he can move all the machinery to the dormitory entrance and set up a large spotlight to illuminate it. It will just use up a little electricity at night. But what about the materials? Will he have to move them to the dormitory entrance every day?
That could be fatal.
"Yan Hui, this is troublesome. Should we call the police?" In the entire construction site, only Liu Jianlei would call Yan Hui by his name directly.

“Calling the police won’t help. The drivers aren’t here tonight. Here’s what we’ll do: move all the bedding out and I’ll sleep outside tonight.” Yan Hui came up with the only solution.

We'll talk about tomorrow's matters tomorrow. Tonight, it's safest to just put a light on here and sleep here. That way, the thief won't dare to come back.

“Then I’ll sleep outside with you.” Liu Jianlei nodded.

"Okay, let everyone know that those who move out to sleep tonight will get an extra 50 yuan each." After saying that, Yan Hui went back to move his bedding.

The March nights were still cold, but Yan Hui had no choice. This was his lifeline; he could only watch over it from outside, otherwise he wouldn't be able to sleep at all.

Back inside, Yan Hui rolled up all the bedding, picked it up, carried it to the construction site, and then started to lay electrical wires and install lights.

There was no shortage of hardware on the construction site, so running an electrical wire was an easy task. In less than 20 minutes, Yan Hui had run an energized wire to the boom of an excavator.

He looked around, spread the bedding next to the excavator, then called Lingling over, hugged her, and lay down.

Besides Liu Jianlei, four other workers brought out their bedding. Everyone found a sheltered spot and laid out their bedding.

Yan Hui's blanket was relatively thin. The other workers who went out of the room generally asked their roommates for more warm clothes, but Yan Hui didn't have any. Under these circumstances, Yan Hui had no choice but to lie there like this.

"Lingling, I'm so glad you were here tonight, otherwise I don't know what I would do tomorrow. I'll buy you meat when it's light tomorrow." Yan Hui said, stroking Lingling's fur.

It was quite cold outside, but it was much better for Yan Hui to hold Lingling; at least his torso wasn't cold.

Less than half an hour after lying down, Lingling struggled to get out, and Yan Hui woke up as well.

He looked at Lingling carefully and knew that Lingling was just going for a walk, not that she had discovered anything, so he didn't say anything, stroked Lingling's fur, and went to sleep by himself. He hadn't eaten dinner, and now he was both sleepy and hungry. Coupled with the effects of what had just happened, he was in a very bad state.

The spring chill was still in the air, and Yan Hui's blanket wasn't thick enough, so he could clearly feel the ground was still a bit cold. He curled up, thinking about the predicament he had faced when he first went to Northeast China.

Fortunately, it's warmer now than it was then!

Thinking about all this, Yan Hui actually drifted off to sleep under these circumstances.

Lingling went out for a walk and then came back, crawling straight into Yan Hui's bed. Throughout the night, Yan Hui vaguely remembered that Lingling went out three or four times and came back three or four times, but he didn't know the exact number.

He managed to sleep for five or six hours before slowly waking up; it was just too cold.
When Yan Hui opened his eyes, he could still feel some warmth in his body; Lingling was still in bed.

As soon as he woke up, Lingling woke up immediately, crawled out of bed, and wagged her tail at him. It was almost dawn, and Yan Hui knew that he had survived the night, but it was so cold that his ears were numb.

Yan Hui couldn't help but reach out and touch his ear.

This touch revealed bloodstains!
This startled Yan Hui. Because he hadn't taken off his clothes to sleep, he ran straight to the washroom, looked in the mirror, but couldn't see himself clearly. The light of dawn was still too dim.

Back inside, Yan Hui turned on the light, took out a mirror, and looked closely. He then realized that his ear was bleeding and had already scabbed over. Having grown up in the countryside himself, Yan Hui immediately recognized it as a rat bite.

I guess his ears were frozen stiff last night, so he didn't react much after being bitten.
He started trying to remember. Yes, his ear had hurt a little last night, but...
I really can't remember.

Yan Hui couldn't remember exactly what happened. He took out a towel and cleaned his ear a little, only to find that a small piece of his ear had been bitten off. As his ear gradually recovered, he felt both itchy and painful.

With no other choice, Yan Hui went out.

By this time it was already dawn. He found Liu Jianlei, who was still half asleep, woke him up, and explained the situation.

"You guys have breakfast in a bit, I'm going to the hospital to get checked out," Yan Hui said helplessly.

"I'll go with you." Liu Jianlei rubbed his ears; it really was cold last night!

"It's okay, I can drive myself, you take care of things here." After saying that, Yan Hui left by himself.

After getting into the car, Yan Hui drove off. As the car's engine warmed up, the heater also gradually heated up. After about ten minutes, Yan Hui's body temperature had completely returned to normal, and at this point, the pain and itching in his ears became particularly intense.

The pain was bearable, but the itching was unbearable. However, Yan Hui couldn't scratch it, fearing that the wound, which had finally scabbed over, would bleed again.

Gritting his teeth, Yan Hui pinched himself countless times along the way before finally managing to drive the car into the hospital. He then drove straight to the emergency room.

The doctor seemed unfazed by this kind of thing. He cleaned the wound, disinfected it, and gave him an injection of some unknown medicine. By around 8 a.m., the treatment was complete. Yan Hui only felt pain in his ear, but the itching had subsided.

call.
(It's true that my ear was bitten by a mouse; you can still see the mark now. I'll be writing some separate chapters later in this book to share my thoughts, so feel free to discuss any questions you may have.)
