Chapter 62 Dostoevsky resigns

Chapter 62 Dostoevsky resigns
In terms of finance, except for the gamble he took when he just founded "Fatherland Chronicle", Krajewski was basically cautious at other times, trying his best to ensure that there would be no mistakes in the magazine's financial situation. Therefore, in terms of the printing volume of each issue, Krajewski often made steady progress, printing a little more than the existing basis.

But now, Krajewski found himself as a radical.
He was definitely making great strides forward, yet he felt that nothing would go wrong even if this happened.

Krajewski can only say that it was thanks to his efforts, otherwise how could the magazine prosper?

Well, it has something to do with that young man.
While the latest issue of "Fatherland Chronicle" was being printed, on the streets of St. Petersburg, a thin, blond young man was feeling certain expectations and concerns about his future.

As for the reason, as he wrote in his letter:

"Brother, I've submitted my resignation. I swear to you, I can no longer hold this position. Even though this life was hard, I still thought I could hold on for a while longer, but ever since I saw that gentleman's exquisite novels in the magazines, I can no longer suppress my passion for writing.

My current job has greatly affected my progress and often makes me feel like I am wasting my time.

Although I'm a bit at a loss as to what to do, and I don't even have money to buy new clothes, don't worry about my life. I'll find a piece of bread soon. I will work hard.
Fortunately, my novel is progressing well. I am currently making the final revisions to it. Once it is finished, I will read it to my friend Grigorovich. He seems to have some friends in the cultural circle of St. Petersburg. Perhaps after listening to my novel, he can help me to some extent.

But who knows if it will work? I thought about sending it directly to the Motherland Chronicle, but I heard that they have a backlog of manuscripts, and it would probably be six months before my turn comes. And newcomers don’t get paid for their work.

This is roughly his situation. In this case, how can he not worry?
In fact, if you insist, his salary and the part of the inheritance he received are enough for him to live a rich life, but probably because he has acquired some bad habits, Dostoevsky not only has no money, but also has a considerable debt.

But even so, our Lao Tuo still chose to pursue his dream bravely and tried to achieve something in writing.

And since he was talking about writing, Dostoevsky inevitably thought of Mikhail, who had become increasingly famous recently.

The other person's work is indeed worthy of his reputation.

And a gentleman like him must be very rich now, right?

It should be eating white bread every day, drinking the best tea, attending various parties, being surrounded by various ladies, and being the center of the social scene.
Just thinking about the situation of this increasingly famous gentleman made the young Dostoevsky drool with envy.

When will I be able to live a life like him?
With this strong desire, the young Dostoevsky walked alone on the street.

At this point, he was actually very satisfied with the novel he was about to complete, but he was troubled by how to submit it.

While feeling satisfied, Dostoevsky would occasionally think of the works of the author named Mikhail. Whenever he thought of them, his confidence would be slightly weakened.
Of course, if possible, Dostoevsky would like to meet the other party, talk to him, and then ask him for advice. Maybe he can even enjoy the other party's affluent life.

But he really has no other options now, so he can only try his luck as much as possible to see if there will be any opportunities.

Although Dostoevsky's life was indeed a bit difficult at that time, when the latest issue of "Fatherland Chronicle" was published, the thin young man still went out early. While walking on the streets that were not yet fully lit, he was also calculating whether the money in his pocket was enough.

If that doesn't work, I can only write a letter and ask my brother for some.
Dostoevsky didn't know if it was his illusion, but he always felt that there were more people coming to buy "Fatherland Chronicle" than before. Even though he went out very early, when he arrived at the bookstore, the scene was already a bit crowded.

Not many people asked loudly. Everyone was pushing hard for a magazine. If they got it, they would punch hard like a general who had won a battle, then squeeze out quickly, ready to find a place to read it carefully.

In this situation, the thin Dostoevsky did not have any advantage. He was in a bad mood early in the morning, and after being squeezed so hard, his mental state was already not very good and he was more or less irritable. As a result, he was not very excited after getting the magazine.

He even thought: God, I almost don't have money for food, why did I insist on buying such a book? Wouldn't it be better to listen to it from other teachers?
Despite his thoughts, he still bought the magazine. While he was lamenting inwardly, he also decided to find a place to take a quick look to see if the other person's novel could stimulate his already numb nerves.

What surprised him was that at this time of day in the past, there was basically no sound from the streets and places like cafes. Only when the silence reached a certain level would many people express their opinions on certain things and let go of their repressed emotions.

But today, for some reason, he always felt that laughter kept appearing, coming from one place after another, as if he had seen something very funny.

These laughs made the sensitive young man somewhat upset, as if there must be a voice inside that was mocking his situation.

With this even more irritable mood, Dostoevsky finally found a suitable place, and then turned to a page of this issue of the magazine amid those annoying sounds.

"Police officer Ochumelov, in his new greatcoat and with a small bag under his arm, was walking across the market square."

At the beginning, Dostoevsky was still upset, but after reading a little, he felt a little calmer. When the first turning point came, he gradually forgot the sounds around him. When another sudden turn came, he couldn't help but shook his head and laughed out loud.

After reading the entire novel, he became the one whose laughter was heard.

And in this laughter, he couldn't help but think about himself, the people around him and even some bigger things.

After regaining his composure, he couldn't help but sigh deeply, muttering to himself with a mixture of envy and wonder, "This is one of the best satirical novels I've ever read! How can it not make you laugh? And there's so much hidden in this laughter."

Because of this novel, Dostoevsky once again felt envious of the gentleman he had not met yet. He envied his talent, but also couldn't help but envy his probably very affluent life.
While he was thinking about all this, Mikhail suddenly woke up from his dream for some reason. He felt the hard sofa, looked at the gray ceiling where he would hit his head if he stood up a little harder, and smelled the rotten smell in the air that had never been cleaned up.

Mikhail couldn't help laughing.

Fortunately, there is still a chance to live in a better place, otherwise if he wakes up like this every day, Mikhail really feels that his life is over.
It’s a bit regrettable that I didn’t get the best recommendation for the new book season.

I didn’t catch the good times, there were too many big guys at the same time.

Fortunately, there are other recommendations. It is not easy for a newbie to get to this point. I would like to thank you all again here (heart)

In this case, it can actually be put on the shelves almost immediately, but I thought that the number of free words might still be a bit small, so it would not be a good idea to put it on the shelves too early, so I put it on hold for the time being.

Also, I’m still saving the draft, and I want to take this opportunity to sort out the direction and plot, so I’ll put it on the shelves a few days later, but it will only be in these few days.

My saved manuscripts will come in handy then.

In short, thank you all for your support. I will say more later.

Finally, I would like to thank "Zhan Zhuan Hong Lian", "Wo Shi Hui Xing Gu Jiu Zhi" and "Xu Kong Shen Ming" for their tips! Thank you very much.

I also have a record here. When it reaches a certain number, I will do my best to add more. Thank you for your support
