Chapter 38 Farewell
Edgar looked up from the pile of documents, unable to hide his surprise.

“…Let’s go now?”

Eric nodded and handed the letter to his uncle. "This is a letter from the Saint. I have asked people to pack the luggage and prepare the carriage. We will set off soon."

Edgar took the letter, read it carefully, and his brows gradually furrowed.

"Is the Saint about to collapse?"

Not so fast, it can at least last another one or two years.

Eric thought to himself, his face maintaining the same solemnity: "Perhaps the Saint has already had a premonition of the day when she will return to the Kingdom of God."

"But this is too hasty." After reading the Saint's letter, Edgar pinched his brows. "The Saint said that someone in the Kimino family who can make the decision should go with you..."

"I can go there by myself." Eric looked at his uncle and said, "At least I should be able to make the decision on this matter, right?"

Edgar also looked at him for a while, then nodded slowly. "If the future you saw is true, then the Kimino family would rather give up the so-called status of the Saint Heir. Do whatever you want, don't feel burdened."

The biggest loss, he thought, would be losing his identity as heir.

Eric responded solemnly.

Uncle added: "This is your first time traveling far away, is it okay?"

But Eric said, "I am not alone."

Edgar was startled. Eric placed his hand on his chest and lowered his head slightly. "Holy Yela is watching over me. She will remove obstacles for me and dispel all unfavorable disasters."

"..."

Edgar pursed his lips, then suddenly realized that his nephew said this just to reassure him, so he swallowed his sigh.

"I hope so."

He thought of another thing, "Does Erin know about this?"

Eric shook his head, "I'm going to go find her later."

"Then you go over now." Edgar glanced at the documents on the table and stood up. "I'll go see if there's anything you've missed in your travel preparations."

When I arrived at my sister's room, Irene was still sleeping.

Eric didn't wake her up directly, but sat by the bed for a while.

He didn't expect that he would have to leave his hometown and go to the distant holy city before he found a solution to the problem of Irene learning magic.

"I shouldn't stay there for too long..." Eric said to himself.

The fact that the Saint had sent him a letter asking him to go to the Holy City for a talk instead of directly refuting her had already made her attitude clear. He had a great chance of replacing Irene - most likely the meteor shower that came as he predicted had played a role.

After officially obtaining the identity of the Holy Maiden's heir, he can temporarily put aside the things over there and concentrate on finding a solution to Irene's problem - go directly to the Moon Elf and solve the problem from the root, or secretly find a reliable magic teacher for Irene.

Eric gently held his sister's hand outside the quilt, ready to wake her up, but when he turned around he found that she was already awake and looking at him.

"Eileen."

"Eric..."

"I'm going on a long journey," he said.

Irene tilted her head on the pillow, confusion returning to her tired face. "Didn't you just get back?"

"Yeah." Eric forced a smile, a little helpless, "But this time I'm going to a very far place, and it will take a long time before I can come back."

Irene squeezed his hand tightly and asked, "Is there any danger?"

"No." Eric raised his eyes. "At most... at most I'll get scolded."

Erin smiled. "Did Eric make a mistake again?"

Eric shook his head, "Maybe."

"Go ahead." Her clenched hands slowly relaxed. "Don't worry about me."

Eric pursed his lips, took his sister's hand in his own, cupped it and kissed it.

"You too. Remember to ask the maid to take you out and exercise more when you are awake."

He suddenly felt Irene exerting force on her hands. He raised his eyes and saw that she seemed to want to sit up.

"I'm still awake now, take me out for a walk."

Eric opened his mouth, then smiled, "Okay."

Without changing clothes, Eric pulled Irene out of the room and walked along the corridors in the City Lord's Mansion.

Although she has been in a daze for many years, Irene's physical condition is not too bad. At least she has no problem walking normally - provided that she can hold on mentally.

The two of them walked around for a while, Eric checking on Irene from time to time. He could tell she was struggling to maintain consciousness. "Can you hold on?"

"Yeah." Irene nodded.

Eric glanced at the corner of the hallway ahead and decided to turn there and go back to Erin's room the other way.

But before they got there, Alena and Sophie appeared together.

"Mr. Eric... Miss Irene?"

Alena greeted the two of them, her gaze lingering on Erin's face for a moment longer.

"Have you packed?" Eric asked. The Saint had summoned him, so naturally, the two Saint's messengers would return to the Holy City with him.

"Well... there weren't many anyway," Sophie replied, her eyes unconsciously drawn to Irene, who was looking at her from beside Eric. "... Miss Irene."

Erin smiled at the two of them, blinked slowly, and then leaned forward.

"what!"

Sophie instinctively reached out her hand, but Eric had already caught his sister and found that she had fallen asleep.

"..."

He took a breath, turned around, carried Irene on his back, and said to the two nuns, "I should have almost packed my things. Once I send Irene back to her room, we'll be ready to leave."

Alena nodded, and Sophie followed without saying anything.

"Miss Irene...has it always been like this?"

Eric turned his head to look at Sophie who had caught up, then looked at Alena who was parked by the window, and quickly turned back. "Yeah, it's been like this since I was a kid, for many years."

Sophie quickened her pace and followed, quietly raising her hand to support Irene's back. "Is that why Mr. Eric is replacing Miss Irene?"

"That's part of the reason," Eric said.

"Maybe there's a way to cure this...symptom in the Holy City," Sophie consoled him.

"The solution has already been there, but it's difficult to implement."

"what?"

Eric shook his head, lifted Irene up, and said nothing more.

Under Sophie's "escort" all the way, Irene was safely sent back to her room, lay down on her bed, and fell asleep quietly.

Looking at her closed eyes, Eric gently pinched her face and left with Sophie.

When they went downstairs to the courtyard, Sister Alena had already arrived. There were two high-end carriages with magic shock absorbers parked in the yard, and Edgar was also there.

There are no portals, teleportation arrays, or airships. For long-distance travel in this world, horse-drawn carriages are the main means of transportation.

"Since the Saint wants you to hurry, don't delay on the road," Edgar said. "I've arranged for four drivers to travel day and night. We should be able to reach the Holy City within five or six days via the Heroes' Highway."

Traveling day and night... there's no need to rush.

Eric didn't say much about his uncle's decisiveness. After all, he would be the one arranging the itinerary after departure, so it wouldn't be too late to make adjustments later.

"I see."

Eric came to the carriage and checked the luggage. He found that his uncle had also given him the box of gold coins that he had brought back earlier.

In addition, there was a set of light armor that seemed to be newly forged, and the Aran steel sword he brought back from the depths of the underground mines.

He has just reached level 30, and this magic weapon will be enough for him to use for a long time.

After checking, Eric looked at his uncle and said, "I should be back before fall."

Edgar's intuition told him that his nephew's plan would definitely fail, but he didn't say anything. He just reminded him to be alert and careful in everything when he arrived in Saint Petersburg.

Sophie and Alena got on the carriage one after another. Before leaving, Eric whispered a promise to his uncle: "I will change the fate of the Kimino family."

Edgar was startled, then patted his shoulder and squeezed it hard.

"It's enough for me that you and Irene survive."

Eric got in the car and said goodbye to his uncle. He watched his figure gradually get smaller until it was completely integrated into the equally distant manor and out of sight. Only then did he lower the curtain and look away.

There were sleeping bunks in the carriage. The other two drivers who were responsible for taking over the driving shift at night had quickly gotten into the mood and were snoring one after another.

"..."

The slight sadness of parting that had just risen in Eric's heart was immediately swept away by the snoring.

He opened the small window and looked at the other carriage running ahead.

Although it's a bit rude...but the carriage is so big, if he squeezes in with the two nuns during the day, they probably won't have any big objections, right?
