Chapter 83 Confidence Shines

Chapter 83 Confidence Shines

An ordinary female official came to Sister Gabi with a file and nodded to Alena who was standing beside her.

The latter stared blankly and ignored him.

Gabi glanced at her, said nothing, and continued to deal with the things at hand until the female official left.

"You're not in a good mood today, so you don't have to stay here. Go back."

Alena came back to her senses and lowered her head and said, "I'm sorry, Sister. I will pay attention."

Gabi looked at her for a moment, a little helpless. "Am I being polite? You've been distracted all morning. What's the point of staying here?"

Alena couldn't help but remain silent.

"If you don't want to go back to rest, just find something to do yourself," Gabi said.

Alena glanced at her desk and quickly focused on some matters that required the Saint's confirmation. This was Gabi's job and no one could replace her.

Except for another prince.

Noticing her gaze, Gabi thought for a moment and took out two official letters. "His Highness Eric is still in the tower. Take these over and let him take a look."

Either to make the prince feel more involved, or to let him get more involved in affairs and become familiar with the procedures as soon as possible, when he came here to hang out, Gabi would often find some trivial things for him to confirm.

Alena nodded in agreement and took the document.

The magic floating ladder hovered at the top of the tower. She pressed a crystal stone at the bottom, and the ladder began to slowly descend.

This noise also let the two people in the small room at the top of the tower know that someone was coming up.

But when they saw that the person who came up was Alena, Eric and Sophie were a little surprised, but then they relaxed.

"Head Sister!" Sophie came forward. Alena first glanced at her nun's robe, which was still neat, and then smiled at her in a concealed manner.

Eric stood by the window. "Come to see me?"

"Yes, Your Highness." Alena handed him the letter. "Sister Gabi said these documents need Your Highness's review."

Eric smiled, thinking that the elder sister was bored with him and came to coax him again.

Each time they were just small things, but they could bring a lot of sense of participation and satisfaction to this quasi-saint, and he was happy to cooperate.

It's no wonder that she has been able to serve as the head nun all these years, Eric sighed. Even without the saint's repeated hints and reminders, it would be difficult for him to think of letting her leave.

As Eric took the letter and read it, Sophie pulled Alena to the window and said, "The view from here is better."

The sky and earth were covered with snow, but Alena didn't have much time to appreciate it.

She looked down and said casually, "Are Sophie and His Highness just here to enjoy the scenery?"

"Yes," Sophie nodded. "His Highness said it's quite relaxing here and he can even read."

Alena turned her gaze to look at her, "What about Sophie?"

"I... accompany Your Highness?" Sophie certainly had ulterior motives and smiled at her a little embarrassedly.

Alena stared at her for a moment longer before looking away.

Based on her familiarity with Sophie, she was sure that she was not lying and was really just keeping him company...at least for now.

Alena didn't know how to start.

Tell her not to get too close to the quasi-saint lady?

As soon as these words were spoken, she and His Highness would be the first to feel embarrassed.

As for other more direct reminders, it was even more impossible to say them when Eric was present.

"This is the Saint's room after all, we can't be too casual."

Alena acted businesslike, secretly fulfilling a small, selfish desire deep in her heart. "When you're with other nuns, don't be too flamboyant, or Her Highness will be the one to get scolded."

Sophie was a little confused by the sudden scolding, but Alena was the person she trusted most in the monastery after all, so she listened obediently.

"Oh...I see."

"I've checked it all, no problem." Eric put the letter on the desk and looked at Alena. "Is the Saint's Court very busy today?"

Alena wasn't really sure.

Gabi said she had been distracted the entire morning and was not wrongly accused of this.

"It's okay, pretty much the same as usual."

Eric just asked casually and didn't notice how superficial her answer was.

"That's right. The Pope just died... and just returned to the Kingdom of God. The New Year's greetings at monasteries everywhere have stopped, so there won't be much going on."

Alena took a deep breath, dispelled the distracting thoughts in her heart, and answered seriously:

"Most of the monasteries had already sent their greetings to the Saint before the New Year. These days, the work at the Saint's Abbey has almost come to a halt. Now that it has resumed, the first thing to do is to revise the Saint's reply greetings to each monastery."

Eric became interested. "This kind of greeting, where form is more important than content, shouldn't the reply be uniform?" "Not really. In the early years, the Saint would personally reply to every greeting letter. Now that she lacks energy, the Saint's Court does it for her, but they will also try their best to imitate the Saint's tone." Alena explained.

She personally wrote a reply letter to each fan. It seems that the Saint Girl was really free when she was young...

Eric estimated that he didn't have the leisure time or the time to do so.

"When it's my turn, you can write a few templates for the Convent of the Holy Virgins to imitate." He said to Alena.

This was a troublesome trust, but Alena felt relieved at the moment. "Yes, Your Highness."

She stayed on the top of the tower for a while longer.

Eric was either browsing the saint's bookshelf or staring at the snow outside, while Sophie did even less, just staring at her in a daze, or staring at Eric in a daze.

"Your Highness, I should go downstairs." Alena picked up the two letters.

Eric nodded, and Sophie followed Alena to the floating staircase, sending her down with a smile.

"Don't forget what I just said." Alena reminded him one last time.

"I know."

Watching the ladder descend, Sophie returned to the small room. The first thing she did was to casually squeeze behind the desk and lean against Eric, rubbing the back of his arm intentionally or unintentionally, pretending to be looking for something on the bookshelf.

Eric glanced to the side, but Sophie spoke first.

"Your Highness, can I do what the head nun is doing now?"

"If you want to learn, there's nothing you can't do," Eric replied. "Especially since you're so much younger than Alena. Why are you asking?"

"I also want to share your worries."

"Oh."

"But I can't stay in the convent much longer," Sophie added.

...It turns out she is waiting for him here.

Eric simply stopped talking.

She suddenly felt something soft on her elbow. She turned around and saw Sophie squeezed in, pressing against her lower belly.

She grasped his arm and shook it gently. "Let me stay in the convent, Your Highness."

Eric looked at her for a moment and said, "I'll tell you a secret."

"What?" Sophie blinked.

"When I become a saint, I will leave the monastery and leave all matters to Alena. I will come back once a year at most."

Sophie also looked at him for a moment. "You're lying... How could His Highness leave the monastery so easily?"

Eric laughed, "By then, I'll be in charge of the entire monastery. What's wrong with that?"

"Then... the Holy See won't agree either," Sophie added.

Eric shook his head. "The Vatican has so many cardinals, they don't need me. Or rather, they'd rather have someone less."

Sophie looked at him and thought for a while, and finally began to believe that what he said might be true.

"Why? Your Highness, are you trying to avoid me?"

"...You really... Never mind. It's a good thing to have confidence."

Eric was speechless for half a minute at her confidence before he continued, "The demons are about to march south. I need to find a way to save as many people as possible."

"The demons are heading south?" Sophie didn't believe a word of this sudden answer. "Your Highness is really trying to avoid me!"

"...If you say so, then so be it!"

Eric was helpless. "Anyway, I'm leaving here. If you want to stay, then go ahead... Oh, your own words don't count. You need your father's approval."

And this is Sophie's biggest weakness, she is counting on him to convince her family.

"Your Highness..."

"--Stop." Eric raised his hand to stop her from acting coquettishly and stood up.

After spending the entire morning on the top of the tower admiring the scenery of the snowy country, he was tired of it and decided to go to the Knights to stretch his body.

The two came down from the Saint's Tower. Sophie still didn't give up. She followed Eric, who was deliberately speeding up his pace, and left the Saint's House.

"Your Highness, please let me stay... Wait a minute, wait a minute——"

Looking at the ladies-in-waiting who were looking around, Alena sighed softly.

It seemed that Sophie didn't listen to a word she said in the tower.

Being young means being willful...really.
