Chapter 40 Interference
When I opened my eyes, all I saw was darkness.

Pei Ju did not light the lamp because he could not find the tinder.

Maybe someone came into the house during the day and took away the tinder. The tinder was bought by his uncle. He decided to come back during the day when he has time. Maybe he could see a different scene during the day.

Instead of going out, he stood on the ground in front of the bed and began to practice breathing qigong.

But there was no light in the house, and there seemed to be something rustling around outside, as if it was talking.

He couldn't hear clearly, it was sometimes far away and sometimes near.

However, when he stood still, focused his breathing, and entered a state of meditation, what he heard became clearer.

Those sounds seemed to have entered the hut and were right next to him.

His heart began to feel uneasy. He opened his eyes involuntarily and walked around the room. The sounds he heard became quieter and almost inaudible.

He began to stand in meditation again, breathing in and out, and those sneaky noises soon appeared again.

Even heavier, like a ghost whispering in your ear.

He tried to focus on his breathing and ignore it, but the voice kept drilling into his mind.

"So you were hiding here!"

"Aren't you going to look for your third uncle?"

"He's your father!"

"You're just a coward!"

"Come on! Be merry!"

"You're actually already a ghost!"

"Ghost!"

This was the worry in Pei Ju's heart, as if it had been turned out by someone. His heart was beating fast. He opened his eyes again, exhaled a long breath, then opened the door and came outside.

But there was only silence outside, with only the chirping of insects in the distance. All the previous sounds were gone, and everything seemed like an illusion.

He suddenly remembered what his grandfather had told him, that his father regretted reading the notes of his predecessors. He couldn't help but think that if he hadn't read the notes before, he would have been able to stand here and practice qigong with peace of mind.

After watching it today, he no longer has the ability to practice standing meditation and breathing properly.

"Is it because of reading those notes that I have these lingering distracting thoughts in my mind?" Pei Ju thought to himself. He sat in the open space outside, looking at the dark night, and heard the howling of wolves in the distance.

It seemed that a wolf saw him, and then among the howling of wolves, he heard more than one, as if they were surrounding this small slope.

"There are wolves here?" Pei Ju was a little surprised. He only knew that wolves usually lived on grasslands, but this place was obviously not a grassland environment.

He was feeling irritated, so he went into the house and got out his sword. He stood outside the house holding the sword. Slowly, the wolves came closer. There were five of them in total.

Pei Ju took two steps back, his back facing the door of the thatched hut, which was open.

He faced the five wolves head-on to avoid being surrounded.

Five wolves surrounded him from the front and back, and the one in front was the most ferocious and majestic.

They growled and then approached tentatively.

Pei Ju's sword was already unsheathed. He squatted slightly, with the tip of the sword pointing at the wolf in front of him that was suspected to be the leader.

The leader wolf growled, and suddenly, the wolf on the right pounced over. Relatively speaking, this wolf was on Pei Ju's right side and out of his sight.

Moreover, while the other wolves growled, this one remained silent. Yet, Pei Ju's full attention was on guarding against it. His childhood experience in fighting had taught him that when facing a group attack, the one hiding in the back was the most dangerous, as they could suddenly strike him.

These wolves were cooperating with each other. The ones in front looked eager to try, attracting his attention.

The power of a sword is naturally its greatest stabbing force and lethality, but wolves have fur and skin, so other sword styles can cause limited damage to them.

If it were a human, a random scratch on any part of the body would be enough to kill him.

When this wolf pounced, the other wolves also pounced together.

They attacked in groups, not giving him a chance to defeat them one by one.

But all this was within his expectations.

He immediately leaped back a step, retreated into the door, and closed it. The wolf immediately pounced on the thatched door, creating a big hole. A flash of sword light instantly pierced into its open mouth, penetrated deep into its throat, and could even penetrate its heart and lungs.

The sword was pulled out, and the wolf cried out in pain. Another wolf also threw itself on the door. Pei Ju stabbed it with the sword again, this time directly into its eyes, and the sword went through its eyes and into its brain, killing it in just one strike.

He pulled it open again and drew his sword. The moment the door opened, another one rushed in. He stabbed it forward again, stabbing it in the chest.

Because the opponent was charging forward, and he was thrusting forward to meet the opponent, the combined force of the sword penetrated deeply, piercing through the wolf, and he was unable to pull the sword out. In the darkness, he saw another wolf charging, so he lowered himself, holding the wolf on his sword and charged at the wolf.

"boom!"

The two wolves collided, and he took the opportunity to draw his sword. The wolf pounced again, and he raised the sword in his hand and stabbed it out.

Years of practice have enabled him to stab accurately and powerfully, even instinctively.

Another sword pierced the wolf's open mouth.

In just a short period of time, four wolves had been killed, and there was still one wolf outside the door.

Looking outside, I saw the wolves outside retreating step by step and soon disappeared into the darkness.

He was panting, not feeling much fear, but rather a sense of excitement.

Afterwards, he moved all the wolf corpses outside and rested for a while before standing in a posture to breathe in and out. This time, his ears were filled with tranquility, and his entire consciousness circulated through his body as he breathed.

It continued until I woke up without interruption.

When he woke up, he saw his grandfather sitting in front of the eight-immortal table. There were ashes in the brazier on the table in front of him, obviously something had been burned.

He lit a stick of incense silently and said, "Grandpa, didn't you sleep all night?"

"I'm old and sleep less." Mr. Pei said.

"Grandpa, after I entered the temple, have you been sitting here every night? Are you hiding something from me?" Pei Ju asked seriously.

"I will guard him and not let him go out. But you don't have to worry. Grandpa is resting in there just like you." said Master Pei.

"Grandpa is in there too?" Pei Ju asked in surprise.

"That's about it. After a while, the things your grandfather gave you should arrive, and you will be safe then." Master Pei said slowly.

He stood up to wash up, and Pei Ju hurriedly held his hand and found that his grandfather's body seemed to have become much lighter.

With doubts in his mind, he asked his grandfather why he was disturbed by the ghost language when he was practicing the breathing method of the ghost-killing sword technique in there, and why the ghost language disappeared after he killed the wolf.

After a moment of silence, Master Pei Si said, "I haven't practiced that breathing method before, so I don't know. You can ask your teacher Han Yitong tonight."

So the two of them had breakfast, and then Pei Ju went to learn sword from Wang Jianke.
