Chapter 9 Random Tasks (Please Collect and Recommend)
He Yuzhu took cabbage, radishes and potatoes from the cellar. These were the only vegetables available in winter these days. There was nothing else to eat.

There was a dish of stewed potatoes with radish and a little lard, and a dish of pickled cabbage. The old lady heard the noise in the kitchen and took a look. Seeing the potatoes and radishes of the same thickness, she smiled and said, "My eldest grandson is so capable. Grandma is lucky to have such a good meal." Then she went back to the main room and got on the kang.

When the dishes were served, the old lady tasted each one and said, "Wow, it's really good. It's about as good as your father's."

"No ingredients. This stew has neither pork nor shrimp." He Yuzhu replied while eating.

"It's good enough to have something to eat these days," said Chen Lanxiang.

While he was eating, the Jia family next door started to chant again. Her family boiled the radish in plain water with a few drops of sesame oil, but no matter how fragrant the sesame oil was, it was not as delicious as cooking with lard.

"You stupid cook, you only care about eating good food, but you don't even know how to take care of your neighbors!"

"Mom, I want to eat meat too." Jia Dongxu said.

"Humph, mother has no money. You can go play with his Zhuzi this afternoon and ask him to get you something delicious from home. Doesn't he usually listen to you?"

"it is good."

"Eat quickly!"

After lunch, He Yuzhu sent the deaf old lady back home. After returning, he washed the dishes and went to bed.

After hesitating for a moment, he asked, "Mom, who exactly is the Madam? Why do I feel like you're all afraid of her?"

Chen Lanxiang was stunned by the question, and touched He Yuzhu's head and said, "What kind of person is that? No one is afraid of her. This yard belongs to the old lady. Most of the people in this yard are tenants. It's normal to be respectful."

He Yuzhu knew her mother wasn't telling the truth and asked, "Then why does she only call me grandson?"

Chen Lanxiang stared at him for a long time before saying, "Zhu'er, tell me, do you know or hear anything?"

"No, no!" He Yuzhu shook his head quickly.

"Then why do you ask that?"

"I noticed that the old lady treats our family differently from other families, so I asked, hehe!"

"Okay, stop asking questions. Just remember to treat her as your real grandmother." Chen Lanxiang said.

"Oh, I understand." He Yuzhu stopped asking when he saw that he couldn't get the answer. It seemed that he was too young and his mother was afraid that he would let the cat out of the bag.

The mother and daughter chatted for a few more sentences, and He Yuzhu fell asleep again in a daze. When he woke up, he found that his father had returned and was talking to his mother.

"Mother, you have to keep an eye on Zhuzi these days and don't let him run away. Zhuzi went to the doctor in Dongtangzi Hutong where he died. There's martial law in place now. Who knows, they might come to our place one day."

"Ah, someone's dead. Is Doctor Lin okay?"

"Eh, I don't know. I can't get in. I hope everything is alright. Good people will be rewarded. What kind of world is this?"

"Can't you find someone to bring Doctor Lin out? After all, we owe him two lives."

"I'm just a cook. How can I have such a big face? My legs go weak when I see a little bit of trouble. Those beasts kill people without blinking an eye." He Daqing smiled bitterly.

"Hey, I hope it's okay."

When He Yuzhu heard this, his consciousness probed into the space, looked at the bodies, and wondered where to throw them. If they were missing, the whole city would have to be searched for them.

It would be better to throw him to the territory of traitors or low-lifes, otherwise the common people will be in trouble again. But he didn't know the land, let alone where the traitors and low-lifes were.

The most frustrating thing is that he is only 10 years old and it is inconvenient for him to go anywhere. It is not easy for adults to disguise themselves as others, and he, a little boy, is too obvious a target.

As he was thinking, a message popped up on the screen: "To reduce the harm caused by the Xiaorizi to the civilians of Beijing, the bodies of the Xiaorizi soldiers must be disposed of tonight. Destination: Beiping Police Station! (Qianmen Gong'an Street)"

"Police station? It's a bit far. Fortunately, I wasn't asked to go to the military police headquarters!" He Yuzhu patted his chest.

"Zhu Zi, you're awake. Get up now!" He Daqing's voice came.

"Okay, Dad!"

"You are such a good eater and sleeper, kid! If I weren't a cook, I wouldn't be able to support you."

He Yuzhu rolled his eyes and said, "What I eat is still edible. I guess you have never seen anything edible."

"What are you talking about your son? You go out to earn money just to support your son." Chen Lanxiang was unhappy.

"Okay, okay, I earn this money for you and your mother. Hey, my life is so hard!" He Daqing said with a smile.

"Hurry up and cook."

"Zhu Zi, boil some water and stew another chicken today!"

"Okay, Dad!" He Yuzhu got out of bed, put on his shoes and went into the kitchen. He took a quick look and found a string of bacon next to the chest of drawers. He opened the chest of drawers and found a dozen more eggs. It seemed that this was his father's harvest today.

He Daqing went out to kill a chicken. It was bad luck for Jia Zhangshi not to go out today. The weather was too cold, so it was better for her to stay in the house.

Jia Dongxu originally wanted to find He Yuzhu in the afternoon, but He Yuzhu fell asleep and didn't go out at all, so the boy was left outside in the cold for a while before going back into the house.

After returning, there was naturally a lot of complaints and curses from Jia Zhang.

As usual, a bowl of chicken soup was served to the old lady in the evening. The old lady asked He Daqing to be careful when going out. He Daqing told her about the death of Xiao Ziran. The old lady frowned. It was too much of a coincidence, but how could she possibly connect such a thing with her lovely grandson.

He just asked He Daqing to tell He Yuzhu not to go out.

After dinner, He Yuzhu insisted on going back to his own side room to sleep, saying that his sister was too noisy in the middle of the night. He Daqing wanted to slap him twice, but was stopped by Chen Lanxiang, who asked him to light the stove in the side room and send his son over when it was warm.

Chen Lanxiang saw that her son was worried, so she agreed to He Yuzhu's wishes. It was a good opportunity for the couple to talk to each other. Now her son seemed to understand a lot of things, and some things were really not suitable for her son to hear.

The night was like thick ink, hanging heavily over the sky of the old city. The cold wind, carrying snowflakes, whistled wildly and slapped against the doors and windows of the courtyards.

He Yuzhu lay on the bed with his eyes wide open, staring at the window frame outside the window, which was slightly shining in the light of the snow. Listening to the steady snoring of his father He Daqing next door, he got up, put on his clothes, put on his hat and scarf, and prepared to leave.

With a creak, He Yuzhu cautiously pushed open the door, and the biting cold wind rushed in instantly, making him shiver.

He quickly shrank his neck, tightened his patched cotton jacket, and then tiptoed into the yard in the faint moonlight.

The courtyard was silent at this time, and the lights in all the rooms were off. Only the occasional sound of wind and the barking of wild dogs in the distance added a bit of eeriness to the cold night.

He didn't dare to go to the backyard for fear of leaving footprints, so he could only walk towards the front yard. Step by step, he followed the footprints of adults that were not yet covered by snow and arrived at the front yard gate.

Looking at the gate that was more than ten feet high, he felt a little depressed. He was too short to climb up. He looked around and saw the ladder at the corner. He gritted his teeth and rolled over. But when he came back, he was in trouble and had no idea what to do. He climbed up the wall along the corner with the ladder, pulled out the ladder and placed it outside the wall. He climbed down, put the ladder away, brushed off the snow on his body, and trotted towards the front door.
