Being a knight is not easy
Chapter 49 Bow Knight
Chapter 49 Bow Knight
Robin leaned down and quickly pulled out the three feather arrows from the three corpses. His movements were skillful and neat. The arrows were stained with blood and flashed a strange light in the dim moonlight.
Without stopping for long, he put the feather arrow into his quiver and ran at full speed towards Knight Malizzi's house.
Turning the corner, I saw Thompson hurried out with Knight Malizzi's two wives and three children.
The children's faces still showed traces of fear as they clung to their mother. Although Malizzi's wives tried to remain calm, their trembling hands revealed their inner anxiety.
"Robin, are you okay?" When Thomson saw Robin coming back, a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes and he quickly walked up to him.
Robin waved his hand, his expression anxious yet revealing an unquestionable determination. He said, "Take your men and run south, away from the Black Forest, towards the heart of the kingdom, and don't come back."
"Robin, what about you?" Thomson's face was full of worry, his brows were tightly knitted together, and his eyes were fixed on Robin.
"I'll stay behind to cover your rear. There are some things I must confirm personally." Robin patted Thompson's shoulder. His palm carried a power, as if conveying courage and determination.
As soon as he finished speaking, a burst of dense footsteps came from afar and gathered here like a tide.
The sound became clearer and clearer, and each sound struck everyone's heart hard.
"Hurry up!" Robin urged again, his voice raised a few degrees, his eyes full of anxiety.
Thomson gritted his teeth. Although he was full of reluctance and worry, he knew that this was not the time to hesitate.
He shook Robin's hand vigorously, turned around, and ran south in the night with Malizzi's family.
Their figures quickly disappeared into the darkness, leaving only the sound of hurried footsteps gradually fading away.
Robin took a deep breath and quickly hid in the shadows on the side. He held the pulley compound bow tightly in his hand, with three feather arrows on the string, and the arrow tips pointed in the direction of the footsteps.
His heartbeat was steady and strong, and every beat seemed to be gathering strength for the upcoming battle.
The moonlight shone on his stern face, outlining a resolute outline.
Soon, a group of knights armed with weapons appeared in sight.
Leading the group was Manette, the deputy captain of the lord's guard and a veteran knight in the territory.
His eyes were cold and he glanced around vigilantly, the sword in his hand flashing coldly in the moonlight.
"Search carefully and don't let anyone go!" he ordered in a low voice, with unquestionable majesty in his voice.
Robin narrowed his eyes and locked onto Manette, but at this moment, in order to buy more time for Thompson and the others to escape, he had no way to retreat.
As the knights approached, their figures were stretched long and slanted in the moonlight, like monsters with bared fangs and claws.
Robin hid in the dark, his fingers slightly tightened, and the bowstring of the pulley compound bow was pulled further and made a low humming sound, like a beast about to roar.
Just as Manette stepped into the shooting range, Robin stood up suddenly and shouted loudly. Three feather arrows shot out like lightning, with a whistling sound that broke through the wind and a fierce momentum, shooting towards Manette and the two knights beside him respectively.
Manette was indeed a veteran of the battlefield. He reacted very quickly and dodged to the side, narrowly avoiding the vital part. However, the feather arrow still grazed his arm like a sharp blade, leaving a bloody mark in an instant, and bright red blood oozed out.
The other two knights were not so lucky. The feather arrows penetrated their chest armor with great force, making a dull sound.
The two men screamed and fell backward like puppets with their strings cut, raising a cloud of dust. "There's an ambush!" Manette roared, his voice particularly harsh in the silent night.
The other knights were instantly alert and quickly protected him in the middle. The weapons in their hands flashed coldly, and they looked around vigilantly, their eyes full of fear and anxiety.
Robin didn't give them a chance to breathe. He loaded the arrows quickly and skillfully, and each movement was done in one go.
Then, he rushed out from the shadows like a ghost, the compound bow in his hand flashing constantly, and several arrows were shot out.
In this chaotic situation, his figure shuttled swiftly, constantly changing positions, sometimes disappearing in the darkness, sometimes flashing in the moonlight, making it impossible for the enemy to grasp him.
The knights began to panic. They originally thought it was just a simple chase, but they didn't expect to encounter such stubborn resistance.
Manette suppressed his anger, veins popping out on his forehead. He tried to calm himself down and shouted to the knights: "Don't panic, spread out, surround him!"
The knights seemed to have just woken up from their dream, gradually dispersed, and gathered towards Robin in a fan shape.
Every time they heard the chilling sound of a feathered arrow breaking through the air, a knight's apprentice would immediately fall to the ground with a scream.
Manette was terrified when he saw this scene. From the beginning when he shot three arrows at once to now, Robin's arrows almost never missed their target.
Half of the three knights and twelve apprentice knights they brought with them have now been killed.
Recalling the corpses he saw on the way here, Manette couldn't help but feel a chill on his back.
"Bow Knight Robin!" Manette spat out these words with gritted teeth, as if this simple name contained endless fear and dread.
At this moment, Robin is like the god of death in the darkness, and every arrow he shoots is a deadly death warrant.
Bow Knight is what Robin is called in the territory. This was the nickname everyone gave him before he broke through to become a formal knight.
"I really didn't give him a random nickname." Manette gritted his teeth, secretly regretting in his heart. He thought it was just an easy chase, but he didn't expect to encounter such a difficult opponent.
Looking at Robin's ghostly figure on the battlefield, he had to admit that Robin now definitely possessed the strength of a formal knight to be able to burst out with such amazing speed.
Robin flashed and hid in the shadows on the side. Then, a feather arrow whizzed out and accurately hit a knight's apprentice who was trying to make a detour.
The apprentice screamed, covered his wound and fell to the ground, struggling in pain.
Manette's eyes followed Robin's figure closely, his heart full of doubts, especially about the bow that had caused him so much trouble.
"What kind of bow is that and why is it so powerful?" Manette frowned and muttered to himself.
He had never seen such a powerful bow. Ordinary compound bows could not compare with it.
The arrows shot from that bow were not only incredibly fast, but also powerful enough to easily penetrate their armor.
Just as Manette was thinking, Robin appeared again, and the pulley compound bow in his hand gleamed coldly in the moonlight.
Manette was startled and quickly dodged to the side. A feather arrow flew past his cheek, bringing up a gust of cold wind that made him break out in a cold sweat.
"We can't go on like this." Manette thought to himself that he must find a way to break Robin's rain of arrows as soon as possible, otherwise, the people they brought would probably be wiped out.
