The real life of an American police officer: Winning over others with virtue
Chapter 117 Response
Chapter 117 Response
In the United States, buying things for free is a very common thing; it happens every day, in every city.
Everyone is used to it.
However, it is quite rare for patrol officers William and Michael to be involved in a theft report that was purchased for free, only to have their patrol car stolen right in front of the person who reported it.
This caught William and Michael completely off guard, giving them a strong sense of shock and absurdity for the first time.
Not only was the person who reported the incident being "sold for free," but the patrol officer himself actually witnessed this infamous scene right in front of them.
This is fucking
Watching the taillights of the car disappear into the distance, William and Michael just wanted to crawl into a hole.
That's so damn embarrassing.
The two could already imagine how the events of today would be carried forward and amplified.
It's very likely that this isn't just limited to the West Canyon Police Department.
Other police stations will also know that two idiots were in front of the person who reported the crime for free, and their police cars were also bought for free.
"Uh, officers, are you alright?"
Interestingly, the person who initially called the police, who seemed extremely anxious, has now calmed down.
He could also offer some words of comfort to William and Michael, who were initially calm but were now clearly bewildered.
"It's not too late."
William and Michael were immediately jolted awake and cursed aloud:
"Fake!"
Although they wanted to find a hole to crawl into, the caller's words also made William and Michael understand what to do.
"This is 10-Adam-8, 18 emergency, 78 officers require assistance, 10-16 vehicle/license plate stolen, someone drove off with our patrol car, suspect is wearing a white short-sleeved shirt, African American woman."
William picked up the walkie-talkie and announced the biggest joke of the day.
The local 911 emergency call center room.
Abby, who had just heard this, was completely stunned as she watched the icon representing the 10-Adam-8 patrol car move.
She had no idea what had happened; how could the police car driven by two experienced patrol officers have been stolen?
They were still dealing with the vehicle theft case.
Moreover, the suspect is not a man, but an African American woman?
"This is really..." Abby chuckled, she couldn't imagine the scene no matter how hard she tried.
Because I just found it absurd.
But my hands were still clapping away on the keyboard.
Abby wasn't the only one who felt this way.
Even the patrol units patrolling nearby had the same feeling after hearing the radio report of the incident.
"Hahahahahaha!"
"Even William and Michael have this day."
"They're probably thinking about killing people right now."
"We'd better keep quiet today and not provoke them, or I'm really afraid they'll bite us!"
"Oh no, what am I going to do if I can't hold back?"
"Hahahahahaha!"
"."
Patrol Unit 10-A-11.
Eric and a bewildered Annie exchanged a glance, couldn't help but smile, and shook their heads. It wasn't unheard of for police cars to be sold for free; after all, patrol officers habitually get out of their vehicles to maintain mobility and respond quickly, so they don't lock the car or remove the keys.
Therefore, it's actually quite normal for patrol cars to be purchased for free in this absurd country.
Even more outrageous, some people stole police cars, and others stole police car tires, to the point that the police couldn't help but curse and demand that the suspects return the tires on their official account.
This happened last year, and it truly made Eric realize the absurdity of the country he lived in.
But it's a different story when a suspect tries to buy your police car for free right in front of you.
There are very few examples.
Eric could already sense how William and Michael were feeling. Today was definitely the worst day for them, one they would likely never forget.
"Sir?" Annie asked.
Eric didn't answer, but instead looked at the laptop above and operated it with one hand, then looked at the map that had been transferred from the dispatch center, which was now filled with icons of various nearby patrol units.
On the map, the icon for his 10-A-11 patrol unit is closer to that of the 10-Adam-8 patrol unit, separated by only one street.
Interestingly, this suspect doesn't seem to be one of those thrill-seeking biker gangs from the West Coast; he was driving quite slowly.
At only about 43 miles per hour (70 kilometers per hour), that's quite slow.
At her speed, they could meet her as soon as they turned right at the next intersection and went straight.
Eric switched the communication channel with one hand and picked up the walkie-talkie to respond to the incident: "This is 10-A-11, 76 (en route en route), 80 foot/vehicle pursuit."
This channel allows communication with nearby patrol units; his message will be broadcast on the walkie-talkies or radios of various patrol units within the area.
This also included the patrol car that William and Michael were driving, so Eric only gave the code name and didn't say anything specific.
However, it seems unnecessary, since a quick glance would reveal what's inside the police car. But then again, this country has too many talented people, some with IQs below the human baseline.
On the other side of the street, William and Michael, looking like two helpless stray dogs, breathed a sigh of relief when they heard Eric's voice.
Although I had mixed feelings, I still provided the information that needed to be provided.
"This is 10-Adam-8! 32 (Target armed) 29H (Suspect poses a potential threat!). All units please be on alert."
William's voice rang out from inside 10-A-11.
Although it was just a numerical code without any specific words, Eric instantly understood its meaning, realized something, and suddenly looked at Annie.
"What do you think this means?"
He was curious to know whether Annie was taking the matter very seriously or was relatively relaxed about it.
"Sir! There's a gun in the police car! But we're unsure if the suspect will take any further dangerous action!"
Annie's chest heaved slightly as she answered earnestly.
“Good!” Eric laughed, glancing at the map on the control panel.
"Let's begin, rookie. This is your first pursuit mission. Let me see what you've accomplished in the past month!"
After saying that, Eric helped out by flipping the button on the control panel below to turn on the sirens above, and then pressing the button to turn on the siren.
Incidents like these are generally Code 3 (emergency incidents, requiring the use of police lights and sirens).
With these two combinations, you can basically start running rampant on the streets.
Because there is a law in California that states that failing to yield to an emergency vehicle on duty will result in a fine, a demerit point on your driver's license, and may even lead to an increase in your insurance premium over the next three years.
That's why Eric likes to practice his driving skills when he receives Code 3 instructions.
He absolutely loved the exhilarating feeling of all the vehicles swerving to make way for him; it gave him a taste of what it meant to be a tyrant without any consequences.
