Chapter 142 Running Away (Please Subscribe)

Perhaps because of Terry, or simply because he's grown up and wants to be independent, Genos rented a house to live in on his own.

Therefore, the community he rented was of average quality.

At one o'clock in the morning, the streets of the community seemed to have been muted.

A Ford F-150 Raptor, its headlights blaring, slowly drove into the quiet neighborhood.

"gone?"

Eric glanced at the empty streets and the dark houses of Genos next to him, but didn't stop and continued driving forward.

He deliberately went around in circles to make sure the stalker had disappeared.

"Is this a preliminary investigation? What are they investigating?" Eric frowned, recalling the incident at the restaurant.

"It seems they have some reservations... Are they investigating me slowly? Or..."

Eric shook his head inwardly; he had too little information.

However, there are ways to deal with it.

Eric drove back to Genos's house, looked out the dark windows, and took out his phone to dial his number.

Feedback came quickly.

"Brother-in-law?"

Genos's voice was hesitant, clearly surprised by Eric's late-night call.

Eric didn't dwell on Genos's form of address and said, "Open the door, I'm at your door."

After saying that, he hung up the phone, got out of the car, and walked towards the door.

Meanwhile, light shone from the windows of Genos's house.

----------

"Brother-in-law! What happened?" Genos asked.

Terry, dressed in his pajamas, handed Eric a glass of water to Genos, who was sitting opposite him. Terry and Genos stared at each other, both wondering why Eric would come to their door at this time.

“Someone is following you,” Eric said calmly, without drinking any water.

"The Rusty Harbor gang issue is not yet resolved."

These words came like thunder out of the blue.

The shock caused Genos and Terry to react accordingly, their pupils slightly contracting.

They had no idea they were being followed for the past few days.

“Brother Eric, the Rusty Harbor Gang wasn’t…” Terry’s voice trembled slightly.

“It was destroyed, but the people behind it are still here,” Eric said, then looked at the two shocked people and spoke in a softer tone.

"Don't worry, they haven't made a move yet, which means they have some concerns, and it also means we still have time."

Genos finally understood why Eric had visited so late at night. He took a deep breath and suppressed his surging emotions:
"So what do we do?"

“Leave Los Angeles.” Eric picked up his glass, took a few sips of water, put the glass down, and continued.

“Go to your sister’s place, bring your parents along, and treat it as a trip to relax.”

In this situation, leaving temporarily is definitely the safest option.

Tifa is currently working for the FBI, and that connection alone should make those people wary.

“There aren’t many options right now,” Eric continued.

"The local police will have difficulty protecting you."

Reality is reality, and besides, this has nothing to do with the Rusty Harbor gang case; it's a separate matter.

Police departments are not charities or private bodyguards; they have neither the right nor the resources to provide long-term protection to complete strangers. Their focus will be on witnesses in relevant cases.

Genos fell silent, exchanged a glance with Terry, whose face was filled with worry, and nodded:
"Okay, I'll do as you say, brother-in-law."

Eric said, "You guys pack your things now, I'll talk to your sister."

“Okay.” Genos and Terry didn’t say anything more and immediately turned around and went upstairs to pack their luggage.

Eric took out his phone, found Tifa's number, and dialed it.

Luckily, he's on vacation right now, otherwise he'd have to figure out how to get time off.

An ordinary room.

There was only a bed, a wardrobe, a desk and chair, and a bookshelf full of books.

The warm yellow light of the reading lamp outlined the silhouette of a woman. Her fluffy brown hair fell over her shoulders, the ends brushing against the back of her swan-like neck. She was flipping through the files in front of her, her brows furrowed, seemingly lost in thought.

The sudden ringing interrupted her thoughts. She frowned, picked up her phone, and when she saw the caller ID, her brows relaxed. She subconsciously tilted her head, revealing a hint of cuteness and confusion.

"Calling at this hour?" Tifa's heart tightened; she knew Eric's personality all too well.

Without much thought, Tifa answered the phone.

"Honey?"

Hearing Tifa's familiar, magnetic voice as she quickly answered the phone, Eric said gently:
"Still not asleep?"

“No,” Tifa said. “We’re reviewing the site investigation report.”

Eric didn't press for details of the report, but said in a deep voice, "Jenos and Terry are being followed. I suspect these people are connected to the Rust Iron Harbor gang."

Then, without waiting for Tifa to process the information, he quickly suggested that her family go to her place for temporary refuge, as a kind of travel arrangement.

Tifa frowned, instantly understanding the whole situation. She understood Eric's considerations, but...

"how about you?"

“Me? Of course I’m staying in Los Angeles.” Eric heard the worry in Tifa’s voice and softened his tone to comfort her.

“They probably don’t know I exist yet, otherwise they wouldn’t be looking for Genos and Terry, but would come to me first.”

"Honey……"

Eric interrupted her: "Don't worry, I'll be fine. I have my own plans. You'll have to figure out a way to convince your parents to come over."

Upon hearing this, Tifa remained silent, but unfortunately, she had no better solution.

It's not that if you're being targeted by strangers and go to the FBI for help, they will definitely provide protection.

You need to have sufficient reasons to get them involved.

Everything has a process, just as Eric once told her: "The world is bustling, all for profit; the world is bustling, all for gain."

Although she didn't understand it at the time, she came to agree with it after Eric's explanation.

but……

Tifa's eyes narrowed slightly as she spoke into her phone.

"it is good."

Sensing the emotion in her voice, Eric smiled reassuringly, "It's alright. Maybe... I'll go with you."

A very gentle smile appeared on Tifa's face. If her colleagues at the bureau saw her expression at this moment, they would definitely be astonished.

After all, Tifa was always cold and aloof when she arrived here, as if she wanted to keep strangers away.

“I’ll wait for you,” Tifa said earnestly.

Eric laughed and said, "Okay!"

He then hung up the phone and nodded to Genos and Terry, who were already downstairs with their suitcases.

"Go ahead, go to your parents' house first. Your sister will explain to them. We'll leave together tomorrow!"

Genos hesitated and asked, "What about you, brother-in-law? Aren't you coming with us?"

“I’ll go later,” Eric said with a smile.

"Give me the house key before you leave."

"But……"

"Stop being so indecisive and hurry up and go."

"..."

Eric stood at the door, watching Genos's taillights disappear into the night. He gripped the keys in his hand and muttered to himself.

"Okay, time to get busy again."
