The real life of an American police officer: Winning over others with virtue
Chapter 166 Rescue
Chapter 166 Rescue
The two remained silent, yet there was an unspoken understanding between them, as if they understood each other's thoughts and knew what they should do at that moment.
The almost continuous, almost uninterrupted gunfire was proof of this tacit understanding, revealing a perfect tactical coordination.
Eric walked out of the corridor with walls on both sides, his gaze sweeping over the corpses on the ground before finally landing on Ray, who was beginning the search. He subconsciously followed him.
The smoke from the gunpowder in the front hall had not yet dissipated, and the pungent stench of chemicals and blood filled the air.
The two remained highly vigilant.
Ray had temporarily put away his Remington 870 and switched to an M1911 pistol, pointing the muzzle at a corner where a threat might be hiding, and began searching the room one by one.
Soon, all the rooms had been searched, but Mia was nowhere to be found.
Only one room remained. The white curtain hanging above the doorway was riddled with two honeycomb-like bullet holes and stained with fresh blood.
Clearly, Lei's two shots just now killed the enemy inside.
The two exchanged a glance, perfectly in sync, and Lei took the lead, walking inside first.
As soon as you step inside, a chemical odor that is even more pungent and intense than that in the front hall hits you.
Eric, who was right behind him, couldn't help but cover his mouth and nose and hold his breath, not even paying attention to the two corpses on the ground.
What comes into view is a room that has been converted into a makeshift drug manufacturing workshop.
The equipment was quite rudimentary.
The core equipment consists of several heaters similar to induction cookers or electric heating plates, on which large glass measuring cups, heat-resistant glass bowls, stainless steel pots, and frying pans are placed.
There were also several plastic buckets containing solvents and waste, a large number of empty plastic bottles scattered on the ground, piles of over-the-counter cold medicine boxes, and chemical stains covering the table and floor.
Seeing this, Eric almost wanted to leave immediately. He glanced at the two corpses on the ground and felt that these two guys were actually quite talented.
With such rudimentary equipment, they were able to produce drugs of acceptable purity.
Looking at Lei again, he was opening a box deep inside, which contained bags and bags of finished drugs.
"Should we notify the guys here?" Eric asked.
This is Lynwood, an independent incorporated city with its own municipality and police department.
Although the facilities of that police station cannot compare with those of the Los Angeles Police Department in Los Angeles, it is still a police station.
After the police are called, local officers will come to handle the aftermath and take over this mess. The seized drugs and any potential cash will likely bring the police station a considerable amount of revenue.
“Okay!” Lei nodded in response, his gaze shifting to the small door beside him, his eyes darkening slightly.
“I saw warehouses outside, connected to the houses; they’ll probably connect them into one unit,” Eric said.
Lei nodded and continued to lead the way.
Eric steadied the M1911 again and followed Ray inside.
Behind the small door is a corridor, with a solid wall on one side and the other side converted into what appears to be a room for storing materials. At the end of the corridor is another door leading to the warehouse that Eric had seen from the outside.
It must be said that the layout and renovation here clearly indicates that this is the core stronghold of the 187 gang. It is just unknown whether the people they killed included the gang's core figures or leaders.
An inconspicuous yet heavy iron gate appeared before them, with a large padlock hanging on it, standing out starkly from the dilapidated surroundings.
A faint light seemed to be shining through the gap near the ground at the bottom of the iron gate.
If nothing unexpected happens, Mia, who is being controlled, should be inside.
“Ray,” Eric whispered, his gun steadily pointed towards the iron gate. Ray nodded, and without a word, raised the Remington 870 slung over his shoulder and fired a shot at the padlock! The lock beam instantly twisted and deformed, its structure completely destroyed.
Eric followed suit, kicking the iron gate hard! With a muffled thud, the gate sprang open.
At the same time, a terrified scream suddenly rang out, a child's sharp, fearful cry.
Ah ah ah ah ah!
Eric and Ray frowned and looked inside.
Behind the door was a long, narrow, and low warehouse compartment.
There were no windows; the only light came from a dim, low-wattage bulb hanging from the ceiling, barely dispelling the heavy shadows.
The sight before them fueled a murderous intent within Eric and Ray.
Five small figures were huddled in the corner, their ages varying, the oldest being about twelve or thirteen years old, and the youngest perhaps only seven or eight.
The scream came from the girl who was being protected by the four children behind her; it was Jim's daughter, Mia.
She screamed like a frightened fledgling.
But when Mia's eyes adjusted to the light and she realized that the people who came were not those cold-faced adults, but two tall men dressed in dark clothes, holding weapons, and with completely different expressions, her eyes suddenly burst with an unbelievable yet extremely intense light!
“Ray? Eric?” Mia stared intently at Ray and Eric, fearing that this was just yet another cruel illusion.
"Miva!" Ray quickly sheathed his gun, strode forward, and his face was full of concern.
Eric stood at the back, habitually raising his eyebrows, but his gaze was fixed on the four children protecting Mia.
These four boys had Asian faces, but what was crucial was that their faces showed no fear, only deep wariness, and their eyes gleamed with an unsettling, almost dangerous light.
For some reason, as Eric watched, he sensed a tiger-like aura emanating from the four boys.
"what's the situation?"
Even as Lei approached, the four boys showed no fear on their faces, instead displaying a tough attitude of 'If you come any closer, I won't be polite.'
"Hey! They're my uncles! They've come to save me!"
Mia seemed to understand the four boys' wariness and quickly spoke up to warn them:
"They are good people!"
Under Eric's gaze, the four boys exchanged glances, their tense bodies relaxing slightly, no longer as hostile as before, but the wariness in their eyes remained undiminished.
"Lei!" Miwa stepped out of the protective circle, her little face full of grievance, on the verge of tears.
Ray took a deep look at the four boys who seemed to be protecting Mia, took a deep breath, and picked up Mia with pity.
"Sorry, I'm late!"
"Eric!"
Eric smiled and nodded. Judging from Mia's appearance, she shouldn't have suffered serious harm, otherwise her mental state wouldn't be so good.
It's a stroke of luck amidst misfortune. Of course, we'll need to conduct a thorough check and inquiry when we get back.
He subconsciously exchanged a glance with Lei.
"What about them?" Eric asked, looking at the four expressionless boys who were just staring at them silently.
For some reason, Eric had a strong feeling that these four boys were no ordinary children. Although there were emotional fluctuations in their eyes, it was definitely not fear.
