Chapter 14 Detective Part 1
The agency's admission process was exactly as Jessica had described—besides filling out basic information, one also had to solve a meticulously designed mystery puzzle. The puzzle was incredibly detailed, its level of professionalism rivaling that of a published detective novel.

Take, for example, the deduction problem Peter encountered. I won't go into the details, but the general description is that the victim's stomach was burned through, and the method was to replace the particles in the drug capsule with metallic sodium. Putting aside the feasibility—the sheer idea is enough to drive the average high school student crazy. There's no way to arrive at this answer without using the process of elimination.

"I got it done."

"Congratulations, Peter Parker, you're officially a member of the Detective Agency." Jessica smiled and pulled out a cardboard box from under the table. "This is your souvenir—the deer antler hat from 221B Baker Street."

There were at least twenty hats piled in the box, dust dancing in the sunlight. Peter picked one up and glanced at the label.

“Made in…Oh!”

"Believe me, even if you actually buy one in Baker Street, the label on the back will definitely be the same."

Peter actually had a genuine 221B Baker Street deers antler hat that Gwen brought back from London, and the label on the back said it was made in the UK, but he still didn't want to embarrass his senior.

Amadeus followed suit, completing his deduction and also receiving a "souvenir." Harry, on the other hand, was still racking his brains until ten minutes later when he suddenly slammed his fist on the table.
"I know! The murderer used—"

“Shh!” Jessica held up a finger. “Write the answer on paper. No spoilers.”

Harry handed in his answer sheet awkwardly. Jessica looked at it and nodded with satisfaction. "The quality of the new recruits this year is really good. The three of you all got full marks—usually, we just need to pass to join the club."

"Is there a small number of people in our club? It feels like no one comes."

"Not a lot, but there are over twenty people. Mainly because if there's no activity, the only person here is the member on duty—usually me. We do accept commissions, too. For example, if a classmate's belongings are lost, or if someone suspects their boyfriend or girlfriend of infidelity and needs evidence... These commissions don't count for academic credit."

The only things that count for academic credits are undoubtedly the detective agency's club activities.

So Amadeus asked that question.

"So, what activities does the detective agency usually have?"

Jessica chuckled, picked up a remote control from the table, lowered the screen, and the projector projected a pre-made PPT with a line of eye-catching large words on it.

[The ultimate challenge: Find Spider-Man's true identity! ]

"what?!"

"Surprised, huh?"

Misunderstanding Peter's surprised reaction, Jessica spoke as a matter of course: "Almost all superheroes have made their identities public, with Spider-Man being the only exception. So, isn't finding Spider-Man's true identity the most difficult problem the detective agency should complete? I know it's difficult, but that's what we have to do!"

Peter began to doubt the correctness of his decision to join the detective agency. He watched all this with his mouth wide open, and for a moment he didn't know how to respond.

Harry reacted quickly: "Doesn't that mean Spider-Man doesn't intend to reveal his identity? If that's the case, he will definitely protect his secret identity."

"And a detective is someone who seeks the truth."

"Wait, doesn't this interfere with privacy?"

Although he felt that he had hidden it well, Peter still decided that he should say something. Jessica hesitated for a moment after hearing this, and then came to a conclusion.

"That's true, but we can't get Spider-Man to come and stop us."

Peter's eyes darkened and he leaned back, then sat back up, took a deep breath, and tried to analyze things rationally.

"Well, even if we want to investigate, what clues do we have? He's swinging around in the sky, and there's no way to find any flaws."

But Jessica just smiled slightly at this question.

"Indeed, generally speaking, it's difficult for us to get clues like this. The only footage we can find of Spider-Man on social media right now is of him dealing with a few robbers. It was very short, and there's almost nothing to be found."

"but--!"

Jessica raised her voice and clicked the remote again: "I have exclusive information here, and it should be the earliest known information about Spider-Man's actions."

So Peter Parker raised his hand.

"Can I ask where it's from?"

"I took the photo myself. My home is in Manhattan, and we were affected by the alien invasion. Spider-Man saved me." Jessica embarrassedly lifted her hair and said, "As for me, I wanted to find him and thank him. It happened that the school was also very interested in this activity, and the student union approved it as soon as I proposed it!" Spider-Man has received your thanks, senior sister, please don't violate Spider-Man's privacy.

Peter forced himself to watch as Jessica clicked on the video. The video began outside a midtown Manhattan apartment window. A massive portal opened in the sky, and the Chitauri army swarmed out like locusts. The camera shook violently, and Jessica's voice could be heard:
“What is that? Aliens?!”

In the scene, Iron Man, with only the tail of his flame visible, rushed towards the enemy group, and then the flames of explosions burst into the sky one after another. Peter tried hard to recall what he had done in the Battle of New York, but he couldn't remember anything. He could only sigh and spread his hands.

"So, a whole alien army drops down from the sky and starts shooting everywhere, and then all you do is turn on your phone and start recording."

Fortunately, it is only 2012 now. If it were 2020, Jessica would probably start a live broadcast.

Jessica just smiled awkwardly.

"There's no Spider-Man here, let's fast forward this."

The video fast-forwarded to a few minutes later, and a huge Chitauri beast emerged from the portal. The Chitauri soldiers thrown from above broke into one building after another and accurately pounced into Jessica's window. I don't know how Jessica, who was filming the video, dodged it. Anyway, the phone flew out and fell right on the wall, and the camera was still able to shoot inside the room.

What about Jessica? Oh, in the video, Jessica has already collapsed to the ground and passed out, without the aliens even needing to fire.

The Chitauri soldier aimed his weapon at the unconscious Jessica, ready to fire. Just as he was about to fire, a red and blue afterimage flashed across the screen, kicking the enemy offscreen before also dashing offscreen. A few seconds later, the Chitauri soldier was knocked out of the window, plummeting from the sky.

"He was there, right there when I was injured and lost consciousness."

Jessica's eyes lit up, and she was so absorbed in the scene that she didn't notice Peter's slightly strained expression. Spider-Man in the video saw Jessica lying on the ground, picked her up and laid her flat on the ground, but then spread his hands, looking embarrassed, but quickly began to perform standard CPR.

Peter couldn't tell whether he remembered it or not, he was so tired that day, but he put forward his point of view before anyone else.

"Spider-Man has basic medical knowledge, and the entire CPR process is very standard."

"But it's very unfamiliar, as if he just understands it." Harry didn't know why he knew CPR quite well: "He's definitely not a medical professional. Oh, wait, he's bandaging the senior's head, why isn't he using his spider silk?"

That must be because it's inconvenient. Look, there's a bracelet on his wrist, which shows that Spider-Man relies on a mechanical device to shoot spider silk."

Harry was incredulous after hearing Amadeus' explanation. "Wait, Spider-Man can't actually spin his own silk? I thought his silk came from his veins."

Peter sighed helplessly.

"Humans don't have organs that produce silk, Harry. If they did, like spiders, it would be emitted from the abdomen."

It seemed that because of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, Jessica coughed twice unconsciously, so Spider-Man hugged Jessica with one hand, wrapped her and himself together with spider silk, and then jumped out of the window.

Amadeus shook his head in disbelief.

"He just... hugged you, and then from... approximately how high up?"

"The thirty-third floor took me to a safe place and placed me there, away from the dangerous battlefield."

"Carrying one person, thirty-three floors, and taking acceleration into account, Spider-Man's strength surpasses Captain America's." Amadeus sighed, "That's outrageous."

"Okay, we're not here to marvel at the power of superheroes. Have you found any clues?"

"Shoes. Even though Spider-Man is wearing a uniform, his shoes are red sneakers. I have a pair exactly like them."

Peter took the initiative to introduce the problem that Gwen discovered, but he made a pair of shoe covers for himself and used them when he went out today, so this was already an outdated clue.

Several people talked about it in bits and pieces, and in the end, they came to the same conclusion as Jessica had before: no results were achieved.

It wasn't until they finished the first day of the detective agency's activities and were about to leave that Harry suddenly turned around and said, "By the way, senior, what's your full name?"

“Jessica Miriam Drew.” She smiled and waved. “But just call me Jessica.”

Peter, who was drinking water, almost spit out a mouthful of water. Others didn't know what this name meant, but he really knew it.

The original Spider-Woman, Jessica Drew.
