I'm working on Marvel's Spider-Man in American comics.
Chapter 3: Uneasy on the way to school
Chapter 3: Uneasy on the way to school
At six in the morning, the alarm clock rang on time, breaking Peter Parker's sweet dream. He raised his hand and gently pressed the alarm clock instead of hammering it into pieces again.
"It's the 22nd day since I overcame my morning grumpiness. Great." Peter patted his face, got up excitedly, put on his clothes, washed up, and went downstairs.
He saw Aunt May clearing the table in the dining room and asked in confusion, "Did Uncle Ben oversleep today?"
"Maybe it's not that Ben overslept." Aunt May was younger than Uncle Ben, not yet forty years old. She rolled her eyes at Peter as she cleared the table. "It's that someone forgot what day it was."
"Oh! I forgot school starts today." Peter suddenly realized why Uncle Ben didn't go running with him. "Uncle Ben is in the garage?"
"Yeah, could you go next door and call Gwen?"
Peter nodded, ruffled his hair, and walked to the next door. Gwen Stacy was his childhood sweetheart. Because her father, George Stacy, was a single father and a sheriff, he was busy with work, so most of the time Gwen was taken care of by the Parkers.
However, during the few months that Peter became Spider-Man, Gwen participated in a trip to London organized by her junior high school for graduates. She spent the entire summer vacation in London and just returned yesterday. Peter didn't go because he had to accept Uncle Ben's training and become Spider-Man, so she was quite unhappy before leaving.
Hopefully, the trip to London puts Gwen in a good mood.
"Hey, Peter." Before Peter knocked on the door, Gwen had already poked her head out from the second floor. She had a messy head of blonde hair and asked, "What time is it?"
"It's only six o'clock. This is the first time I see you get up so early. It seems you didn't sleep well last night?"
"It's terrible. I'm still jet-lagged and I basically didn't sleep all night." Gwen ruffled her messy blond hair. "Wait a minute, I'll be right there."
Peter waited patiently for about five minutes before Gwen opened the door and walked out. Her messy blonde hair had been combed back into place with a black headband, now hanging naturally down to her shoulder blades.
"Turtleneck, long sleeves and jeans. Hmm, it seems London is much hotter than New York."
"Ah... never mind. I don't feel hot anyway. High school doesn't have a uniform, right?" Gwen looked at her outfit and tossed something over. "Here, smart boy, this is a gift for you."
"Wow, a deerstalker hat like Sherlock Holmes's. Did you buy it at the Baker Street souvenir shop?"
"No, I bought it from a random stall," Gwen joked, closing the door.
Peter glanced at Stacy's living room: "Where's Uncle George? Has he gone to work yet?"
"No, he was busy until the early morning. I guess he doesn't have time to drive us to school today, so let him sleep a little longer. I'll go to your house for breakfast."
"Just in time, Aunt May has made breakfast and Uncle Ben just went to the garage."
Gwen smiled helplessly, "It seems Uncle Ben and Aunt May also know that he should sleep more, or go to bed earlier."
The Parker family's breakfast was simple: a few slices of toasted bread with lettuce and jam, and an omelet. After breakfast was served, Uncle Ben washed his hands and walked into the dining room.
"Alright, young men. I'm taking you to Midtown High School today. Today is the first day of school." Uncle Ben sat down and said somewhat helplessly, "I have to go to work, so I won't be able to attend your opening ceremony. I left a message for George. If he wakes up early, maybe he can make it."
"It's okay, let him sleep a little longer. Let him take care of his breakfast by himself." Gwen bit the fried egg fiercely, and Aunt May and Uncle Ben smiled at each other.
Peter didn't say much, but finished his breakfast quickly and sat there. Gwen glanced at the clock in the dining room while she ate.
"Less than two minutes? When did you eat so fast?"
"It's been like this since summer vacation. Peter eats faster and faster. I thought he suddenly became a big eater." Aunt May said, making the sign of the cross on her chest. "Thank God, he just eats faster."
"I have to set aside time for combat training with Uncle Ben..."
"Wait." Gwen paused. "You're training in combat over the summer?"
Peter paused, then nodded and offered the excuse he had prepared long ago: "Yeah, I have to prevent another bully like Culkin from appearing in my high school... The worst part is that Culkin also got promoted to Midtown High School."
Culkin, the biggest enemy Peter Parker has encountered since his rebirth, is a white strong man who is over 1.8 meters tall in junior high school. He is a standard American school bully like a football player. He likes to bully his classmates, no matter what kind of classmates they are, not limited to nerds.
To be honest, Peter thought he would have to meet Flash Thompson to be bullied, but he met Carl in junior high school.
Peter, who hadn't awakened his spider powers, was naturally bullied several times. Of course, Peter used some of his inventions to play pranks on his opponents several times, but even with Culkin's brain, he couldn't figure out who was playing a prank on him.
Even Peter's becoming Spider-Man was largely due to Culkin. At the Osborn Tech Expo, when the radiation device exploded and the scene was in chaos, it was this guy who actually had the time to catch the radioactive spider and put it around Peter's neck.
He was originally debating whether or not to become Spider-Man, carefully considering the possibility of a spider appearing in his hand, when Culkin placed it directly on his neck, forcing him to make the decision. "You'd better be careful. I don't think you can defeat Culkin after just two months of fighting lessons."
Peter laughed disapprovingly.
"Ha, I'll beat him down real bad."
"Remember, learning to fight isn't about getting into trouble, it's about protecting yourself." Uncle Ben added subconsciously, then realized that was probably the last thing he had to worry about. He smiled and wiped his mouth with his napkin. "Okay, kids, get ready to go."
The Parkers' car was a fifteen- or sixteen-year-old Toyota, and the engine was already a bit slow. Fortunately, Midtown High School was not far away, and it only took about ten minutes at most in the morning.
In the car, the two were still talking about Gwen's trip to London, where they went and what kind of photos they took. Uncle Ben didn't play the car music, just drove on the road, listening to the two young people's conversation, and couldn't help laughing.
It seemed like another ordinary, normal day.
"Uncle Ben! Look out!" Peter Parker shouted, causing Ben Parker to slam on the brakes. Then, the wall of the building next to him collapsed, and the broken concrete blocks hit the front of the car, only missing it by three or four meters.
Uncle Ben, having barely escaped death, breathed a sigh of relief and tried to turn around, but the falling wall behind him quickly blocked his way. A huge piece of reinforced concrete crushed the engine of the car behind him, and the driver, frightened, opened the door and ran away.
"Get off the bus!" Uncle Ben reacted immediately and rushed the two children off the bus. He saw a nearby subway station and said, "Hide in the subway station!"
Peter looked at the building around him, the walls of which were rapidly cracking. He glanced at Uncle Ben and Gwen, then left them behind and ran away.
"Uncle Ben, Gwen, you two hide first! I'll go see if there's a safe way to leave!"
"Be careful!" Uncle Ben warned, then grabbed Gwen's hand and pulled her to the subway station for shelter. Gwen looked at Peter, who was still running with his schoolbag on his back, and was about to say something when she was interrupted.
Why is he still running with his schoolbag?
"I knew being Spider-Man would have to be like this, but the first day of high school? Come on!"
He rushed to the surrounding alleys with his backpack on his back, and after confirming that there were no cameras or passers-by, he took out the spider web launcher and mask from his backpack, then threw the backpack directly into the air dozens of meters high, jumped onto the wall and ran upwards, while putting on the launcher and mask.
The backpack, thrown to the top, began to fall, and then was caught by the spider silk and pulled in front of its owner. Peter stuffed his T-shirt and sweatpants into it, then took out the long-sleeved gloves and put them on, pulling them over his shoulders.
The uniform underneath the T-shirt is short-sleeved, and can be zipped together with the gloves. This design was made for easy dressing in summer and autumn, and I didn't expect to use it so soon.
First, he put on a glove on one hand, then switched hands, holding the backpack. Finally, he pulled out his spider belt, which contained spare web fluid and other small tools, and held it in his mouth. He zipped up the backpack, then tossed it up again, fastened the belt, pulled down his mask, and leaped.
Facing the rising sun, the red and blue hero jumped high from the edge of the tall building, stuck his schoolbag to the outer wall of the tall building with a spider web, then ran to the other side and jumped from a high altitude.
The whole process happened faster than Peter expected. He even had time to check the digital watch on his left wrist.
"If I can fix this in half an hour, Uncle Ben won't be late for work!"
Uncle Ben and Gwen, who had just arrived at the subway entrance, realized that something was wrong because they discovered that there were more people than just them in the shelter. A large number of people were pushing towards this place, and the entrance was already crowded.
The condition of the surrounding building was already very bad, and the cracking sound could be clearly heard.
Uncle Ben and Gwen saw the concrete falling from the sky as someone screamed - but the screams didn't stop.
Because the falling building debris did not hit anyone, it was caught in the net.
Then a small, fast-moving shadow fell over the crowd, and people looked up curiously.
"Is it a bird? Is it a plane?"
"No! Haha, it's Spider-Man!"
Spider-Man, answering his own question, shot countless spider silks between the two buildings, weaving a large web above the street and blocking all the falling boulders. After completing all this, Peter finally had time to land on the opposite building to observe the situation.
"Okay, let me see what's going on?"
His eyes swept across the building where serious problems had occurred, and finally, accompanied by a burst of explosions, Spider-Man saw thick smoke coming out from a place.
That's a bank.
