Chapter 39 Intricacies
Chapter 39 Intricacies
"Okay, I have to go to school with Gwen tomorrow. If I don't encounter any problems on the way, I will have to leave halfway, and then I will have no way to hide my identity in front of Gwen."
It was after ten that night when Peter slipped out of his house. His silken web traced a silver arc through the Queens night as he swung like a shadow towards Manhattan. Avengers Tower stood in darkness, lit only by a few scattered windows. Jarvis had already opened the door for him, and Peter landed lightly, brushing off the nonexistent dust from his uniform as a matter of course.
"Good evening, Jarvis. How's the Avengers' mission going?"
After the Kun fighter entered Wakanda's airspace, all external communications were lost. The only data transmission was recorded within the Wakanda Palace.
That shouldn't be a problem. The Avengers entered the Wakanda palace, but due to Wakanda's unique characteristics, their connection was cut off. After Peter roughly understood the intelligence, he stopped paying attention to the Avengers and turned his attention to two other things: first, was the new adventurer the escaped Chameleon or just Mysterio? Second, why was Culkin following him? Did he discover something?
"Let's do the easy part first, Jarvis. Help me match the headshot of Carl King, a freshman at Midtown High School, to every known camera in New York. I want to see what he knows."
Soon Jarvis found the first piece of information Peter needed from the cameras of major media. On the night of Spider-Man's thriller, Carl King appeared on the scene, and after the battle, he went to the battlefield and looked around for a while.
There seemed to be nothing else going on. Peter then had Jarvis compare the footage of him captured on camera with the same camera within ten minutes. Naturally, all the footage took place at Midtown High School.
It seems that there is no problem...
Peter's eyes flashed, and he caught the fragment he needed. It was that night when he went to the school laboratory to prepare new spider web fluid. Carl King also went in. He might have found a spider web that had not yet been degraded. In addition, it was Carl who put the spider on his neck, so he began to doubt himself.
Then he wouldn't be so suspicious.
"Are you worried about my revenge? Well, Carl, then please understand that I won't do anything to you. Before that, please forgive me for being so scared."
Peter, who had no idea about the villain "the thousands", skipped Carl and instead asked Jarvis to retrieve information about Chameleon. Both Jarvis and the NYPD lived up to expectations - Chameleon did run away again.
An unknown corrupt police officer released Chameleon, and Chameleon escaped. Some special situations happened on the way: "Punisher" Frank Castle tried to kill Chameleon, but he found the wrong target. Chameleon had already escaped and his whereabouts are temporarily unknown.
"The Punisher? He's been hunting Chameleon for a long time?"
[According to existing records, Frank Castle has carried out more than five attempts on Dimitri Snerdyakov, but all ended in failure.]
"Can you find out why? No, okay."
After sorting out the current clues, Peter roughly deduced the specific situation: First, Chameleon was working with Mysterio, and Mysterio's equipment was stolen by Thriller. In order to cooperate with Thriller theft, someone organized a large-scale bank robbery as a cover.
Now, Mysterio and Chameleon have teamed up, initially attempting to smear him. This suggests there must be a mastermind behind these actions, intent on eliminating Spider-Man, either directly or through deception. As for the reason, Peter, after carefully considering Spider-Man's actions thus far, has only one conclusion: the culprit is the one who purchased the bulk of Chitauri parts in New York and repurposed them into weapons for sale. After all, Spider-Man has essentially been dealing with these high-tech weapon smugglers for so long. Who could it be? Kingpin? Hammerhead? Tombstone? New York has its fair share of gangsters, so it's hard to pinpoint the exact culprit.
But no matter what, the purpose of Chameleon's actions is very clear, which is to get rid of Spider-Man.
"But Chameleon is being targeted by the Punisher. If he continues to discredit Spider-Man, the Punisher will recognize him as a fake. Because of this, he has to imitate me and do what a superhero should do. This is really ironic."
The Chameleon that had appeared was definitely a trap, though Peter wasn't sure what it was. Perhaps it was a bunch of thugs, a bomb trap, or perhaps the mastermind had hired a super villain skilled in combat. However, if Peter went to the appointment, he would definitely fall into the trap. Although the trap might not work on him, but...
Why do I have to step into this trap?
Isn't there a punisher?
"I need to talk to the Punisher. He'll definitely be keeping a close eye on any Spider-Men that show up. I should be able to find him easily...if he doesn't open fire on me. It shouldn't be that violent, right?"
Peter was sure that the Punisher, who had been hunting down Chameleon for so long, must know a lot about Chameleon, but he still needed to confirm whether Chameleon was truly unforgivable or, like Herman, was not hopeless in nature.

"Okay, let me first tell you my conclusion. Spider-Man is probably a student. A high school student or a college student or something. A high school student is more likely."
As a detective, McDonald Gargan might be a very ordinary person, but he definitely has the professional qualities of a detective. After summarizing his investigation results, he looked at his two temporary teammates and Kingpin. Kingpin brought an oriental armchair, occupied only half of the chair and sat down, smiling gently, motioning McDonald to continue.
"Okay, this is my summary of his appearance times. It's obvious that Spider-Man's operating hours differ between weekdays and holidays, and there's a significant distinction between weekdays. He rarely appears between 8:00 and 15:00. This is definitely not work time, it must be school time. I compared the school schedules throughout Manhattan, and a total of seven schools have schedules that meet the requirements."
"Very good, Mr. Gargan."
King took the A4 paper with the names of seven schools printed on it from McDonald, glanced at it, and then handed it to the Prowler standing beside him with satisfaction. "If we haven't dealt with Spider-Man yet, this list might be very useful. But for now, let's think about how to get rid of Spider-Man directly. I've already arranged an entire building under construction, not owned by Fisk Group, with enough explosives inside to kill any living creature. Even if it doesn't kill him, the collapsed rubble will be enough to bury Spider-Man."
"Now we just need to find the right time to make Spider-Man discover us when he's taking action, and then we can lure him into our trap."
Kingpin stretched out his palm, as if there was a non-existent spider standing in his palm, and he clenched his fist tightly.
"And then, once and for all, destroy Spider-Man."
