I'm working on Marvel's Spider-Man in American comics.
Chapter 5 Escape
Chapter 5 Escape
In reality, the fact that an entire skyscraper was endangered was far more serious than Peter had anticipated. Within minutes of his departure, the Avengers had taken over the nearby streets.
The Avengers in this universe are not identical to those in the MCU. The five original Avengers who participated in the Battle of New York were Iron Man Tony Stark, Captain America Steve Rogers, Thor, the Hulk Bruce Banner, and Ant-Man Hank Pym. In addition, there was a non-staff member, Janet van Dyne, the Wasp, who served as the Avengers' team manager. Captain America does not work for S.H.I.E.L.D., but resides in Avengers Tower, formerly Stark Tower.
"I still suggest shrinking the entire building using Pym particles. These webs are slowly degrading naturally and will be ineffective in less than two hours." Ant-Man, who had just shrunk himself to observe the web structure, returned to his original size. His suit automatically retracted its helmet, revealing short light brown hair and a youthful face of only thirty years old. "The structure of these webs looks familiar... I think I've seen them somewhere before."
"I've already stabilized the building's structure with Stark Industries' engineering equipment. I guess I don't need your help, Hank." Iron Man flew overhead and admired the message left for the police on the spiderweb between the two buildings. "That's pretty nice cursive, isn't it, Captain?"
Only three Avengers showed up. Bruce Banner wasn't there, and Thor wasn't even on Earth. Captain Rogers sat on his motorcycle, watching the video on his tablet. It was the bank surveillance footage reconstructed by Jarvis, and above that, the entire video of Spider-Man's fight.
"In less than seven minutes, he dealt with these criminals in less than seven minutes. Everything was over before we arrived."
"I can just take a minute." Iron Man landed next to Captain and opened his armored visor.
"I mean, he's been trained, and it's from the military. Not only that, he's also trained to control his strength." Steve Rogers fixed the surveillance footage on the moment Spider-Man punched Herman in the face. "With his strength, that punch would kill the opponent without proper control. But the man wasn't even knocked unconscious by the punch."
"So, we found a guy who knows what he's doing. That's good. I was just worried about how to clean his silk from getting stuck in the cracks of my armor."
"It's Professor Richard Parker." Hank's sudden remark interrupted the two people's casual conversation. Tony closed the armor mask and looked at the information that Jarvis called up: "An entomologist? Hank, your colleague?"
"No, he is an expert in genetic modification and programming. Several experts in related fields in academia, including Curtis Connors, Miles Warren, and Jonathan Drew, are his students."
"Wow," Tony exclaimed. "I haven't heard of any of those."
"He was the lead researcher on the US military's Super Soldier Serum Project, primarily researching the use of animal genes to enhance humans. He published quite a few related papers, most of which were sealed by S.H.I.E.L.D. A few years ago, when I was working for S.H.I.E.L.D., I read some of them. One of them was a paper on the artificial synthesis of a certain spider silk protein. The spider silk structure described there was exactly the same as the one here."
Tony glanced at the captain, but the captain said nothing, revealing no additional emotion.
"The company in charge of the Super Soldier Serum Project at the time was Osborn Technologies—and it should still be in charge now. However, he withdrew from the project a few years ago and joined S.H.I.E.L.D. He died in a plane crash three years ago."
"Why am I not surprised at all? So, this Spider-Man is a super soldier developed by Osborn? Very good, Jarvis, make an appointment for me to meet with Norman Osborn."
"He's not a super soldier created through research, nor is he a weapon." The captain concluded, "More like a vigilante acting on his own initiative."
"We'll find out when the time comes, just ask Osborn." Tony didn't seem too concerned. The captain thought for a moment and made a decision: "Or Nick Fury, I'll ask him there. And the police, they should have done some research on Spider-Man."
"I'll take this thing back and study it." Hank picked up a "Thriller" launcher: "Maybe it will be useful."
Hearing the police sirens, the three Avengers looked towards the police car that appeared on the street. Tony raised his eyebrows and said, "The New York police arrived just in time."
George Stacy, who had escorted the prisoner back to NYPD headquarters, was feeling rather irritated. Today was supposed to be his daughter's high school commencement ceremony, and he was supposed to take her to school and stay until the ceremony was over. Instead, not only did he wake up late, but he also had to escort the prisoner right after waking up and getting ready to leave.
And I heard that the street they destroyed was the street Gwen took to school. If George hadn't asked Ben and knew that Gwen was fine, he wouldn't mind turning off the body camera and giving them a beating.
Now all the prisoners have been taken to the police station, waiting to be brought to justice after they wake up. He had just taken a sip of coffee when his officers came to report the "good news".
"Sir, the gang leader has woken up."
George nodded, not intending to conduct the interrogation himself. He and several other police officers stood outside the one-way glass window of the interrogation room, watching a fat white policeman and a strong black man interrogate each other.
The leader of the bank robbers was a standard stereotypical black man from a slum gang, with dreadlocks and a lip piercing. At first glance, he looked like an unemployed vagrant mixed with black people.
"Name?"
"Hermann Schultz."
"age?"
"26."
"Profession?"
"No."
"What about before?"
"Mechanic."
The man appeared cooperative, though a bit absent-minded. From the interrogation, they gathered a rough outline of his background: a junior high school graduate with little education, a former auto mechanic who had become wealthy after the New York War by scavenging trash and now planned to continue his no-cost business. So the fat police officer asked his next question.
"Where did you buy these weapons? How much did they cost?"
"I made it myself from scavenged alien materials."
The two policemen in charge of the interrogation and the policemen who were watching outside were stunned for a moment, and then burst into laughter in unison.
"Dude, you know what you're talking about?" The black policeman couldn't help but laugh and shook his head. "Those...those weapons that almost cut through an entire building, were you the one who made them?"
"I did it!" Hermann roared angrily. "That's what I did!"
"That's the most ridiculous confession I've ever heard, man." The white police officer shook his head helplessly and didn't pick up the pen. "I know you don't want to give these guys up, but you can at least make up a good excuse. You made these things up yourself? That's outrageous."
"What's the problem?! I made those things!!!"
"No, brother, do you know how powerful those weapons are? Our evidence room experts can't even figure out their operating logic." The black policeman spread his hands: "You said you made it? Man, you're just a mechanic, a guy who graduated from junior high school. You can make this?"
"What? Are only highly educated white pigs capable of developing these things? Can't a black mechanic become the best engineer?!"
"Calm down buddy, we didn't say anything about skin color. You're being too sensitive."
After the white policeman finished speaking, he looked at the black policeman. Probably because he couldn't get anything out of him, he took Hermann out and took him to the detention room.
They planned to ask someone else. They couldn't have everyone saying that this high-tech weapon was invented by a junior high school student, right?
Schultz was taken to the detention room by the police. Along the way, he kept recalling the police's ridicule and Spider-Man's flexible posture when fighting. When he arrived at the detention room door, he didn't move. He was pushed by the police and then walked into the detention room.
Several younger brothers have also woken up.
"Hey, Herman, what's up?"
Hermann said nothing, then suddenly seemed to understand something. He pulled out his brother's hairpin, walked to the iron door of the detention room, and used the hairpin to pry open his handcuffs and the lock of the detention room door.
Herman Schultz is the best lock picker in New York.
The younger brothers watched in amazement as he suddenly opened the cell door and strangled the patrolling police officer before he could react. Then he took off the police officer's clothes and put them on himself, throwing the key to the younger brothers who were still locked up.
"It's up to you to decide whether to go or not. If they ask you where I might be going, just tell them the truth."
The younger brothers, realizing something was wrong, looked at each other, and finally someone couldn't help but ask, "Where are you going, Herman?"
“Do what I always do and tell New York that I’m the best engineer.”
Herman Schultz said this, lowering his police cap as he walked out of the holding cell. It was still early in the morning, before nine, and not many people were on duty at the police station yet. Herman had surprisingly slipped through the heavily guarded NYPD with ease. After more than half an hour, he found an old residential area where he had a long-abandoned construction site as his secret base. This was where he hid his alien technology, a location unknown even to his subordinates.
He pulled out the alien technology parts, but after thinking for two seconds, he kicked them aside. He could exchange them for money later, but right now, he didn't need these fancy things.
"You're the best engineer, Herman. You don't need any alien technology."
The entire experience of fighting Spider-Man kept replaying in his mind. The contrast between his opponent's powerful and flexible posture and his own clumsiness in holding a large gun was stark. He had to create a suit as flexible and powerful as Spider-Man's.
"The flexible suit must be able to absorb excessive shockwaves to prevent itself from being counterattacked. The device must be portable. The bracelet is too small for this, so it can be made into an arm guard. The transmission frequency also needs to be recalculated... like this..."
A broken desk lamp, a box of colored pencils, and stacks of draft paper.
One morning, one miracle.
A pair of wrist guards that work on the same principle as the "Thriller" launchers, but are more controllable, and a set of kinetic energy absorbing armor with a yellow base and red metal covering in some places.
When the design was completed, Hermann Schultz opened his eyes red and couldn't believe what he had drawn.
But then he smiled.
"I did it! I did it!"
"I didn't invent shock. On the contrary, I will become shocker!"
