Chapter 13: My Guess

"Father Beast!" Fox Abandoned exclaimed excitedly.

"Hmm?" Fox White lowered his head, and a few more strands of hair fell out from under his cloak.

"He actually apologized to me..." Hu Qi was still very puzzled. He looked back, then grabbed Hu Bai's hand and held it.

Fox White looked down at him and smiled gently, "His father scared him, and he was frightened."

"Is that so?" Fox Abandoned asked again, "Father Beast, why don't we want the good meat?"

Fox White smiled gently, "Because of your beautiful older sister, she really likes to eat these."

"Huh? Pretty lady, you really like to eat these? I thought you were making this up."

"Father, how did you know what pretty sister likes to eat? I had no idea."

“I guessed.” Fox White was silent for a moment, then handed the meat in his hand to Fox Abandon. “Abandon, clean them up, and I’ll go gather some firewood.”

……

After Fox White and his son left, the beast warriors surrounded Fox Five.

"Captain, what's wrong with you? Why are you afraid of Hu Bai? Did he threaten you?"

Fox Five gritted his teeth and finally said, "That Fox White is no simple man. Don't mess with him in the future!"

But the other beast warriors didn't believe in such superstitions.

"Captain, are you kidding me? Fox White is just an ordinary beastman without any beast markings. His combat strength is about the same as a wild animal. Look, he's always the last one to go on hunts. And he can only hunt Cuckoo Beasts and Gaga Beasts each time. What are you afraid of with his fighting strength?"

Fox Five looked at the beast warriors. They hadn't directly confronted the pressure and intimidation emanating from Fox White, so they couldn't understand his feelings.

The moment he looked at him, Fox Five felt a pressure from Fox White as if a mountain was crushing down on him, and he felt his bones and flesh being crushed inch by inch.

It seems that if he wanted to, he could easily take not only an arm, but even his life.

That's terrifying. Even the Three-Striped Beast Warriors never put this much pressure on him.

Fox Five could only say, "But don't forget, as long as Fox White goes hunting, he will definitely be able to bring back a small wild animal."

Although it's not much, and although it's just a small wild animal, it certainly won't leave empty-handed.

The more he looked at Fox White, the less he understood. "Let's not talk about what outsiders are saying. Now that I think about it, maybe Fox Purple's insistence on marrying Fox White wasn't just because he's good-looking. Be smart, or you'll become someone's pawns without even realizing it."

"Yes!"

……

Nan Zhisui and the wolf king arrived at the wolf king's cave together.

She deftly disinfected the mother wolf's wound and then fed her anti-inflammatory medication again.

Only then did she begin to observe the wolf king's six cubs.

Five of the cubs were strong and could easily find milk.

But the weakest of the six cubs wasn't doing so well. Its mother wolf's meager milk supply was all taken by its five older brothers, and because it couldn't get any milk and didn't have enough strength to nurse, it weighed much less than the other five.

Nan Zhisui took out goat milk powder from her spatial storage and began to prepare the goat milk powder to supplement its milk supply.

The wolf king and the mother wolf both looked at Nan Zhisui, their eyes revealing a hint of confusion.

They didn't understand why Nan Zhisui had saved the cub so many times.

As Nan Zhisui fed the cubs, her heart was gradually stirred with emotion.

In the eyes of the wolf king and his wife, this little sixth wolf was born with poor health and would grow up to be a weak wolf. A weak wolf would not be able to hunt prey and would be a burden to the wolf pack, and would be easily preyed upon by powerful wild beasts in the future.

So why feed it? Why save it?
With so few supplies, it's enough to let the powerful kid survive.

Survival of the fittest. Nan Zhisui thought to herself as she pushed the syringe used for breastfeeding…

In human society, the life and death of pets largely depend on humans.

They don't need to hunt, nor are they hunted. Their strength isn't that important; as long as they can live and please humans, that's enough.

But wild animals are different; they face life-or-death challenges at every moment. A weak wild animal is destined to become food.

So, is her act of rescuing it at this moment a violation of the laws of nature, or is it... a futile effort?

Nan Zhisui was confused for a few seconds, but after watching the little guy trying so hard to drink milk, Nan Zhisui's mindset changed.

She rescued it, giving it a chance to live. It was what she, as a veterinarian, should do; it was her duty.

As for the future, even powerful wolves can be hunted, so why shouldn't weak wolves have the opportunity to try to survive?

Since she chose to intervene, she will be the one to give it a chance.

After Nan Zhisui finished feeding it milk, she returned it to the mother wolf.

She fed the mother wolf some goat milk powder and nutritional paste, then patted the wolf's head. "You've worked hard."

The mother wolf gently nudged Nan Zhisui's head and let out a soft howl.

The wolf king was still fast asleep nearby. Nan Zhisui was about to leave and called out to the wolf king twice, but the wolf king didn't hear her.

The mother wolf, enduring the pain in her stomach, stood up, bit the wolf king hard, and then cursed, "Awooo!"

The wolf king suddenly woke up and hurriedly looked around in a panic before realizing that it was time to send Nan Zhisui away.

Nan Zhisui couldn't help but chuckle and said, "I misunderstood you before. It turns out you're still henpecked."

Wolf King's tail swayed slightly twice, and he squatted down to let Nan Zhisui sit on it.

As Nan Zhisui was riding on the wolf king's back back to Stone Village, she suddenly remembered what Hu Qi had said that morning.

That brat said he wanted to treat her to something to eat.

Since you're visiting someone's home, it's not appropriate to arrive empty-handed.

Nan Zhisui said, "Little brother, let's run slowly on the way back. I'll look for wild vegetables by the roadside."

The wolf king couldn't understand everything, but it could roughly understand a little bit, so it didn't run fast on its way back.

On her way back, Nan Zhisui actually found a wild vegetable around the roots of an unfamiliar tree.

"Wait a minute! These are tea tree mushrooms? There are so many!"

Nan Zhisui jumped off the wolf king.

Although there was food in her storage space, she didn't know how long she would stay in the beast world, and the food in the space was dwindling with each use, so she mainly used it as a reserve for emergencies. She would find her own food most of the time.

Nan Zhisui bent down, picked off the tea tree mushroom, and examined it repeatedly. "It can be confirmed that it is a tea tree mushroom."

Nan Zhisui took out a disposable plastic bag from her spatial storage and began packing the tea tree mushrooms.

Little Snake Yang couldn't understand: "Hiss, hiss hiss hiss..." Pretty sister, are you collecting this to eat? But I've seen orcs die after eating this. It's not edible.

Although Nan Zhisui probably couldn't understand it either, she could see the doubt in the little snake's eyes.

She smiled and said, "Don't worry. This is not only edible, but also very delicious. I'll dry it and keep it as a dried goodness-of-preservation item. I can add some to braised pork or chicken later."

After saying that, Nan Zhisui also discovered a bird's nest.

She nimbly climbed the tree and found several fresh bird eggs.

"Hey, we found a few bird eggs. We can give Little Snake, Little Fox, and Sickly Boy an extra meal."
