Hong Kong Nights of Passion

Chapter 128 You Can Never Compare

Chapter 128 You Can Never Compare
Wen Jinian slowly woke up around 8 p.m. on the third night. In her hazy state, she saw a dark ceiling and fear instantly overwhelmed her. She instinctively curled up, but the movement aggravated her wounds, causing her to gasp for breath.

Chi Yige, who was working on his tablet with his head down, rushed forward upon hearing the sound and took her hand: "Niannian, you're awake!"

But Wen Jinian's eyes were unfocused, her face full of fear, and she even subconsciously resisted his touch.

"It's me."

Chi Yige noticed something was wrong and immediately pressed the call button.

When the doctor arrived, he used a flashlight to check her pupils and listen to her heart rate, asking, "Has she experienced any trauma before?"

Chi Yige shook his head: "I don't know, I'll have to ask her aunt."

The doctor frowned: "It's likely that the shock from the fall triggered the aftereffects. We need to find the cause before we can treat it."

Chi Yige dialed Wen Jin's number with trembling hands; Wen Jin was just about to come to the hospital.

"Niannian is awake, but something is wrong. Has she suffered some kind of trauma before?"

Wen Jin asked doubtfully, "There shouldn't be..."

Before she could finish speaking, Wen Jinnian's tearful murmur suddenly came from the ward: "The light...it's so dark...too dark."

The doctor immediately signaled to turn on all the lights, and only after the room was filled with light did Wen Jinian gradually calm down.

Chi Yige suddenly remembered something and asked, "Has Niannian ever been locked up?"

On the other end of the phone, Wen Jin was silent for a moment, her voice trembling: "Five years ago, her uncle locked her in the basement all night..."

Chi Yige gripped his phone tightly, took a deep breath, said a few words, and then hung up.

When Wen Jin arrived at the ward, Chi Yige told her that Wen Jin Nian had claustrophobia. Her knees buckled and she almost fell over, tears welling up in her eyes: "It's my fault for hurting Nian Nian!"

She spoke of the past, her voice trembling.

Back then, Wen Jinnian and Jiang Shu's relationship was discovered by Jiang Xiao. To stop the rumors, he locked Wen Jinnian in a damp and cold basement and forced Jiang Shu to swear that they would only call each other brother and sister.

To eliminate any future trouble, Jiang Xiao forced Wen Jin to study abroad until she agreed.

Chi Yige remained silent for a while before calming himself down and not rushing up to Jiang Xiao to question him.

Chi Yige's aura was terrifyingly low. He took a deep breath and softened his tone, which was unusual for him: "Aunt, don't blame yourself. From now on, no one can touch her again. I will stay by her side and help her get through this step by step."

Wen Jin looked at Wen Jinian, who was lying on the hospital bed with a pale face. Even though she was asleep, her brows were still furrowed, as if she was still trapped in a nightmare.

She glanced down at the time; it was already past 10 p.m.

After a brief period of waking up, Wen Jinian fell into a deep sleep again.

Chi Yige stepped forward slowly, gently trying to smooth out the wrinkles between her brows.

The moment her fingertips touched his skin, Wen Jinnian grabbed his wrist warily. "Don't touch me!"

Chi Yige's heart clenched painfully, and his body trembled uncontrollably. "Niannian, it's me..."

Wen Jinian heard a familiar voice and slowly opened her eyes.

Chi Yige softened his voice: "Would you like some water?"

She nodded gently, and Wen Jin quickly handed her a glass of warm water.

Wen Jinnian said softly, "Aunt, I'm sorry to have worried you."

"It's alright, you silly child."

Wen Jin said with heartache. Wen Jinnian looked around, and a flash of fear crossed her eyes as the unfamiliar environment made her look at herself.

She turned to look at Chi Yige, her tone filled with unease and dependence: "Dr. Chi, can we go home? I don't want to stay here anymore."

Chi Yige nodded without hesitation, his voice low and firm: "Okay, let's go home."

Wen Jin hesitated, as if she wanted to say something but stopped herself: "But what about her injury?" Chi Yige turned to look at her, his gaze firm: "Don't worry, I will arrange for a family doctor to follow up with her immediately."

Wen Jin was relieved and hurriedly helped pack her belongings.

Chi Yige quickly dialed Li Mingyi's number and instructed him to prepare a vehicle and pack hospital supplies.

He picked up a blanket and gently draped it over Wen Jinnian's shoulders, avoiding her injured area with his palms, and steadily lifted her up in a princess carry.

Wen Jinian subconsciously snuggled closer to him, drawing in the familiar warmth and sense of security.

Chi Yige did not have Li Mingyi raise the lift platform, but instead turned on all the rear seat overhead lights.

He carefully let Wen Jinian lean against him, gently patting her back with his palm: "Niannian, don't be afraid. The people who arrested you have already been sent to jail by my dad, and they'll be in there for a while. Chen Si escaped to Macau, and the old man's network of connections has been spread out. We'll definitely hear news in the next couple of days."

Feeling his warm chest, Wen Jinnian's tense nerves gradually relaxed, and her gaze fell on her bandaged feet: "Will this leave a scar on my leg?"

Chi Yige chuckled softly, looking down. "Don't worry, I'll use the best medicine for you. If it really leaves a scar, I'll design a tattoo, one of a kind in the whole world."

Wen Jinnian suddenly looked up, her eyes still glistening with tears: "You can draw?"

"Although I can't compare to the professionals, I can still become Wen's apprentice."

He tapped the tip of her nose with his fingertip, and a faint smile finally appeared on her lips.

Forty minutes later, the car arrived at the villa in the hillside.

Having somehow gotten wind of the situation, Jiang Shu was already waiting at the door. The moment Chi Yige carried Wen Jinnian out of the car, Jiang Shu rushed out, her voice trembling as she called out, "Niannian!"

Wen Jinian subconsciously snuggled closer to Chi Yige and softly called out, "Brother."

Chi Yige suppressed the urge to punch him and looked at him coldly.

Jiang Shu reached out to touch Wen Jinnian, but Chi Yige blocked her way. "Niannian, I'm so sorry. I didn't know Chen Si would do this... I really didn't mean to hurt you!"

Jiang Shu explained, almost in a state of collapse.

Wen Jinnian gave a faint smile and said calmly, "It's all in the past. I'm fine now. Dr. Chi will take care of me. You can go back now."

"You're not going to forgive me, are you?"

Jiang Shu's eyes were red at the corners, and her voice trembled.

Wen Jinian met his gaze and said earnestly, "You will always be my brother, and you and Aunt will always be my family."

Jiang Shu swayed slightly, clenching his fists bitterly: "Then... Niannian, you should rest early. I'll come see you another day."

Chi Yige turned and walked towards the villa. Wen Jin watched his back, then looked at the dejected Jiang Shu, and finally sighed before slowly walking forward.

Looking at the distraught Jiang Shu, Wen Jin sighed, "You've already lost, so let go of your obsession. Let's keep what happened back then to ourselves. I asked you then, if you really couldn't bear to think about it, I would have risked my life to send you abroad."

"But what did you answer? You said you wanted to stay in Hong Kong, climb to a high position in the Jiang family on your own, and then give Niannian a future. In the end, you value your career more than her."

She looked up at Chi Yige holding Wen Jinnian in the villa, her voice suddenly becoming more serious, "Look at Young Master Chi, such a proud man, what kind of woman hasn't he had? Yet he cherishes Nian Nian so much, putting her first in everything. In this respect, you will never be able to compare."

"Aunt, I really regret it!" Jiang Shu's voice was hoarse and his eyes were red. This was the first time Wen Jin had ever seen him cry.
