Chapter 136 You stay in the car, I'll go find it.
Half an hour later, Shen Yu called. Chi Yige answered and frowned after listening for a few words.
Seeing that he had hung up the phone, Wen Jinnian gripped the sofa armrest tightly in anxiety: "Did you find out?"
"Your aunt's phone is located at Stanley Pier."
Chi Yige held his phone tightly. "Has she mentioned going over there recently?"
Wen Jinian shook her head: "No, these past few days she's either been working at the flower shop or coming to the villa to play mahjong with us."
"Wait for news at home, I'll send someone to look for you." Chi Yige pressed down on her shoulder.
"I also need to go!"
Seeing him frown and about to persuade her, she grabbed his sleeve, her voice trembling and on the verge of tears, "Please let me come with you? I'll be even more panicked staying home alone."
Chi Yige sighed, then scooped her up in his long arms and carried her horizontally.
Li Mingyi, who was guarding the door, immediately opened his black umbrella, and the three of them quickly walked towards the garage through the rain.
Wen Jinnian gripped his collar, her fingertips trembling. Chi Yige lowered his head and said, "Don't worry, we'll definitely find it."
Just as the convoy drove out of the villa area, Shen Yu called again: "I'm on my way, I'll be there in ten minutes at most."
Chi Yige responded and hung up the phone.
At 7:30 p.m., the thick, inky blackness mingled with the drizzle, shrouding the sky in a somber, oppressive curtain.
As the convoy entered Stanley Pier, the navigation lights of the moored ships flickered in the rain.
Wen Jinnian looked out the car window. The salty sea breeze mixed with rain poured into the car. She gripped Chi Yige's wrist tightly, her voice trembling, "Why would Auntie come to a place like this?"
Li Mingyi got out of the car and opened the back door, his open black umbrella keeping the wind and rain out.
Chi Yige pressed Wen Jinnian down, "You stay in the car, I'll go look for her."
She bit her lower lip, wanting to argue, but was stopped by his unquestionable gaze.
In the end, I could only nod and lower the car window a crack, and rainwater, along with the salty sea breeze, immediately rushed into the car.
Not far away, Shen Yu strode over from another car. His tablet computer gleamed with a cold white light in the dim light. His fingertips swiped rapidly across the screen, and the blue positioning cursor flickered on and off on the map. His brows furrowed more and more tightly.
Chi Yige strode closer, holding an umbrella. Shen Yu looked at Wen Jinnian through the rolled-down car window, his voice heavy with the sound of rain: "This location is too remote. Coming here so late probably isn't a good thing."
"Can you pinpoint the exact location of the phone?" Chi Yige stared at the constantly updating tablet in Shen Yu's hand.
Shen Yu zoomed in on the map, and the location point kept flashing at the junction of the dock and the river: "It's either stuck on a boat or it fell into the river."
Chi Yige's face darkened. He glanced back at Wen Jinnian, who was peering into the car, and lowered his voice: "Don't tell Nian Nian yet."
Shen Yu nodded.
"Young Master, what should we do next?" Li Mingyi asked from the side.
"Have your men disperse to search, and you continue with precise location tracking. How long will that take?"
"At least half an hour."
Chi Yige's Adam's apple bobbed, and he turned around.
As soon as the car door was opened, a blast of cold air rushed into the passenger compartment.
Wen Jinnian turned her head and saw Chi Yige bending down and getting into the car. His dark suit was soaked with water stains on the shoulders, and his hair was stuck to his forehead.
She pulled out some tissues to wipe him down, then slipped a few more into his hand: "How are you?"
"Shen Yu is positioning himself."
Chi Yige took the tissue and wiped his face. "Don't scare yourself. Maybe he's just here to discuss business."
Wen Jinnian bit her lip, twisting a corner of a tissue between her fingers. Despite her intense anxiety, she could only keep silently repeating to herself.
Auntie will be alright, she will definitely be alright.
Chi Yige looked at Wen Jinnian's trembling hand clutching the hem of her clothes, sighed softly, and turned his back to send a message to Fu Yiyi.
In less than a minute, a video call popped up.
When Wen Jinian answered the phone, Fu Yiyi chattered on about the interesting things that happened during her trip, even showing off the novel fruits she had eaten to the camera. Wen Jinian was gradually infected by her enthusiasm, and her tense shoulders relaxed.
Seeing that she had calmed down, Chi Yige lowered the car window slightly.
A light rain mixed with the sea breeze blew in, and half an hour later, Shen Yu sent a message.
(The phone's location was in the middle of the river; a search of the surrounding area yielded no results.)
(It is recommended to report to the police if the person does not return home within 24 hours.)
Chi Yige felt a bit frustrated for the second time, and he didn't know how to start the conversation.
After the video call ended, the air in the carriage seemed to freeze.
Wen Jinnian could clearly feel the low pressure in the carriage. Staring at Chi Yige's tense jawline, her throat tightened.
"It's bad news, isn't it? I can handle it."
Chi Yige turned to look at her; the car's interior light illuminated her pale lips.
Since his condition stabilized, he has insisted on keeping the back seat light on.
She forced a smile, but her eyelashes trembled incessantly.
Chi Yige reached out and pulled her into his arms, resting his chin on the top of her head: "Now that we've confirmed we can't find them, I'll have people continue the search. According to procedure, we can only call the police after 24 hours."
Wen Jinnian bit her lower lip tightly, buried her face in his chest, her shoulders heaving slightly, but Chi Yige still heard her suppressed sobs.
He made a gesture to Li Mingyi through the car window, and the engine started up immediately.
In the rearview mirror, the searchlights on the dock were still swaying in the rain.
Wen Jinnian was carried up to the third floor by Chi Yige.
The warm yellow bedside lamp was on. She curled up in bed, pretending to be asleep, and felt Chi Yige's hand gently cover her, tucking the blanket back in.
A warm kiss landed on her forehead.
As the footsteps faded into the distance, Wen Jinnian quietly opened her eyes and, by the light, saw his tall figure standing in the night, making a phone call.
Warm tears suddenly welled up, and she bit her lower lip hard, forcing herself to calm down.
I kept repeating to myself, no news is the best news.
She took a deep breath and closed her eyes tightly. Only by resting up could she continue her search for her aunt tomorrow.
The rain drizzled all night and didn't stop until the next morning, though it was slightly less intense than the night before.
Wen Jinnian got up as usual, and still clung to Chi Yige while eating, her behavior almost abnormally calm.
Chi Yige stared at her lowered eyelashes, a sense of unease rising in his heart.
After dinner, Wen Jinnian tugged at his sleeve and whispered, "I want to go to the dock."
Chi Yige then realized that all her composure was just a facade.
A large crowd had already gathered at the dock.
Chi Yige used his father's connections to arrange for a salvage team to search the sea.
However, by the afternoon, they had found nothing except the waterlogged phone.
Technicians said it would take some time to recover the phone data.
Once the 24-hour deadline was up, the police launched an investigation.
Wen Jinnian watched the uniformed police officers moving back and forth at the pier, her nails digging deep into her palms, but she maintained a calm expression and ate and drank as usual.
On the evening of the fourth day, the rain finally stopped.
When Fu Yiyi and Duan Jiaxu returned, they saw Wen Jinnian curled up in the corner of the sofa, staring blankly out the window.
Hearing the noise, she slowly turned her head. Her pale face and the dark circles under her eyes made Fu Yiyi's heart tighten.
"Near!"
Fu Yiyi ran over and hugged her tightly, "I'm back, don't be afraid. Let's wait for Aunt's news together."
