Chapter 139 You Don't Want To?
Chapter 139 You Don't Want To?
As the crowd gradually dispersed, she stared at Wen Jin's photo on the monument, remaining silent for a long time.
"Let's go." Chi Yige's voice was filled with reluctance.
Wen Jinian didn't turn around, her throat tightening. "You guys go back first. I want to be alone for a while, is that okay?"
After hearing the footsteps fade into the distance, Wen Jinnian finally collapsed to the ground, unable to hold on any longer.
"Mom and Dad, Aunt..." It felt like there was shards of glass stuck in my throat, it hurt terribly. "Niannian has no family left in this world."
Hot tears blurred my vision.
She bit her lower lip hard. "I know you're all worried about me, but I really feel so bad..."
She looked up, her trembling hand tracing the inscriptions on the monument. "The people who harmed you are now locked behind bars forever, and will never come out to harm anyone again."
The dark clouds hung low, and muffled sounds came from afar.
Wen Jinian suddenly curled up and hugged her knees.
Wen Jinian didn't know how long she cried, until she was completely exhausted.
She leaned against the tombstone, trying to get up, but the glaring light made her instinctively close her eyes.
When she opened her eyes again, through her blurry, tear-filled vision, she saw Chi Yige's figure walking towards her through the cemetery.
He was like a beam of light piercing through the gloom, shining directly into Wen Jinnian's damp world.
The man strode up to her, knelt down in front of her, and pulled her trembling body tightly into his arms.
Wen Jinnian buried her face in his chest and said in a muffled voice, "Let's get married."
A light drizzle started to fall without me noticing.
Wen Jinian buried herself in his arms, but received no response for a long time.
Her fingers, gripping his clothes, trembled slightly. She looked up at him, her face streaked with tears: "My aunt's wish is for me to get married and have someone to take care of me. Don't you want that?"
A low chuckle suddenly came from above her head. Chi Yige released her arm and wiped away the tears under her eyes with his fingertips.
A smile spread across his usually composed eyes, and his warm palm cradled the back of her neck: "Wen, marriage and proposals are things that men should do."
Chi Yige supported Wen Jinnian's trembling shoulders and turned to stand in front of her parents' tombstones.
He straightened his back, bowed solemnly, and gazed at the black and white photo on the monument: "Uncle, Aunt, although I was unable to meet you, I sincerely thank you for giving Niannian life."
His voice was deep but each word was clear: "I hereby promise you that for the rest of my life, I will cherish her as a treasure."
After saying that, he bowed deeply again.
Then, he moved to Wen Jin's tombstone and said, "Aunt, don't worry, I will protect her from now on. Thank you for raising her so well."
He bowed again.
When he turned to face Wen Jinnian, he took out a velvet box from his pocket and knelt on one knee.
The ring gleamed faintly in the twilight as he looked up at his beloved's reddened eyes, which held a sky full of stars.
"Wen Jinnian, today, in front of my parents and aunt, I want to marry you. For life, through thick and thin, will you give me the rest of your life?"
Wen Jinian reached out her hand, trembling, and nodded vigorously.
Chi Yige took her hand and slipped the diamond ring onto her finger. He stood up and put his long arm around her slender shoulder: "I know you're still in mourning. Let's get the marriage certificate first. Leave the wedding arrangements to me. I'll make sure to marry you in a grand and glorious way."
Wen Jinnian buried her face in his warm neck.
Aunt, did you see? I was getting married! But you broke your promise?
You said you would help me take care of the baby, but I haven't even started decorating the nursery yet.
Hot tears seeped into his lining.
Chi Yige gently patted her trembling back, his chin brushing against her soft hair: "Don't cry, Niannian. They'll be heartbroken if you're so sad."
His palm gently stroked her back, his voice tender and loving, "We'll visit them often in the future."
As he spoke, he couldn't help but flick the slightly red nose of the person, "I'll take you to see my mother."
Wen Jinian nodded, almost forgetting that his mother's grave was nearby.
Chi Yige took her hand and walked forward.
Chi Yige looked down at the gentle smile on the tombstone and introduced, "Mom, her name is Wen Jinnian, the sweetheart your son has chosen."
"I just proposed to her, and she said yes."
He seemed to think of something, and suddenly chuckled softly, his eyes glistening with moisture: "Speaking of which, it really is just like what you always say, that God has his own arrangements. After you left, I sat here in a daze, and it was she who passed by and scolded me hard, which woke me up."
"This must be fate, right? So Mom, please bless your daughter-in-law from heaven so that she may be safe and sound, and that we may be able to come and visit you every year from now on."
Wen Jinnian stepped forward slowly and bowed respectfully.
She gently rested her head on Chi Yige's shoulder, absorbing his unique warmth.
Her gaze was tender as she looked at the photo on the tombstone, her voice trembling with emotion: "Auntie, thank you for bringing him into this world."
She lowered her head, her fingertips unconsciously stroking the ring on her ring finger. A faint smile appeared on her lips. "Your son is exceptionally outstanding. He's a very good person, always quietly protecting me. From now on, it's my turn to be with him. We'll definitely be happy together."
As Jiang Shu walked out of the cemetery, he leaned against the car door, a cigarette dangling from his lips, the flame flickering in the twilight.
I caught a glimpse of the two holding hands, and my gaze was fixed on the diamond ring.
His Adam's apple bobbed, but a smile first spread across his eyes: "Is this settled? Looks like I'll have to start calling him brother-in-law from now on. My seniority has definitely increased."
Chi Yige chuckled softly, "Young Master Jiang is Niannian's family, so naturally he's my family too."

On Singles' Day, a light drizzle was falling outside the Civil Affairs Bureau. Fu Yiyi chased Duan Jiaxu down the corridor, phone in hand, "Look at them! They got their marriage certificate on Singles' Day, promising to love only one person for life. They know how to pick a good day! Unlike you, you can even forget to propose!"
Duan Jiaxu, with a pained expression, backed away, saying, "Grandma, I was wrong."
"How about we get a divorce today and then get married again?" Fu Yiyi placed her right hand on her slightly protruding belly, lowered her eyes and murmured softly, "What do you say, baby? How about your daddy and I get a divorce today?"
Before she could finish speaking, Duan Jiaxu rushed forward and carefully shielded her hands with his own, beads of sweat forming on his forehead as he anxiously said, "Baby, don't listen to your mother's nonsense! How can you do this to her?"
He turned to his wife and waved his hands repeatedly, saying with a wry smile, "Wife, if we divorce and remarry, it will be a second marriage, which is very unlucky!"
Wen Jinian was wearing the school uniform that Chi Yige had worn when they first met.
He specially changed into a white school uniform of the same color scheme, looking clean and refreshing.
The two stood at the photo booth of the Civil Affairs Bureau, sunlight streaming through the glass and falling on them, creating a harmonious scene that looked like it had stepped out of a campus romance novel.
Fu Yiyi, supporting her slightly protruding belly, looked at them with sparkling eyes and couldn't help but poke Duan Jiaxu's waist: "Look! With my brother and sister-in-law's looks, how beautiful their child will be!"
She sighed regretfully, "What a pity, we're relatives, otherwise I would have arranged a marriage between the baby in my belly and my child."
Upon hearing this, Wen Jinnian chuckled and gently tapped Fu Yiyi's shoulder: "That won't do. Close-kin marriage is unacceptable. We have to think about the child's health!"
