Hong Kong Nights of Passion
Chapter 17 It's sweet, you're lying to me.
Chapter 17 It's sweet, you're lying to me.
"You were following me?" Wen Jinian's expression turned somewhat unpleasant, a hint of wariness flashing in her eyes.
"I just came to buy some desserts, why are you looking at me like that?" Chi Yige raised an eyebrow and chuckled, but there was a hint of seriousness in his eyes.
Wen Jinian stared at him suspiciously, her face full of disbelief.
Just as she was about to turn around, the crowd behind her suddenly stirred, and someone impatiently shoved Chi Yige.
He stumbled forward and crashed straight into Wen Jinnian. Wen Jinnian's pupils contracted sharply, and she instinctively stepped back, but Chi Yige caught her by the waist in a flash.
He steadied her and held her protectively in his arms. The warmth of his palms radiated through her clothes, and his deep voice carried a hint of urgency: "Be careful!"
"What exactly do you want?" Wen Jinian broke free from his hand, a hint of anger flashing in her eyes.
Chi Yige chuckled softly, but his eyes held a complex expression: "Treat me to dessert."
Wen Jinnian looked up and met Chi Yige's serious gaze. The words from the engagement banquet, "a substantial thank-you gift," suddenly rang in her ears.
She gritted her teeth; so this was what was waiting for her!
"Sure, it's just a dessert? My treat."
I had just turned around and taken a few steps when my phone rang.
Unlocking the screen, Fu Yiyi's voice message popped up.
Wen Jinian pressed the voice button, her voice sickeningly sweet: "What does Yiyi want to eat?"
After sending the message, Fu Yiyi's video call popped up.
Wen Jinnian chuckled and answered the video call. Fu Yiyi's bright face appeared on the screen: "Hi, Niannian! Where have you been?"
She lowered her voice and moved two steps forward with the line: "It's at the dessert shop. What would you like to eat? I'll get you something."
"Niannian, you're so kind!" Fu Yiyi suddenly widened her eyes and pointed to a spot on the screen, "Who's that behind you?"
Wen Jinnian's heart sank. Turning around, she bumped into Chi Yige's ambiguous smile, which had somehow appeared in the frame.
She glared at him fiercely and said through gritted teeth, "I don't know him."
Fu Yiyi was about to press for more information when a warning look from someone stopped her, and she stammered, "You...you really don't know him?"
"Not really." Wen Jinian quickly changed the subject. "So, what do you want to eat?"
Fu Yiyi's gossip spirit was clearly burning brightly. Not familiar? Then they must know each other? Could it be that there's something she doesn't know?
Wen Jin Nian could tell what Fu Yi Yi was thinking just by looking at her eyes.
"If you don't tell me, I'm dead."
This tactic worked perfectly, and Fu Yiyi immediately raised her hands in surrender: "Eat! Bring me whatever you eat!"
After exchanging a few more pleasantries, the two ended the call.
It wasn't long before it was their turn. Wen Jinnian turned to Chi Yige and asked, "What would you like to eat?"
"Same as you guys." Chi Yige put one hand in his pocket, a faint smile playing on his lips.
Wen Jinian almost rolled her eyes. How could a grown man like him love sweets? How pretentious!
She scoffed lightly, then, speaking in authentic Hong Kong accent, ordered: "Three soufflés, three golden pudding cakes, and three croissant ice creams, to go."
She specifically instructed that one of the portions be served with ice and wrapped in an ice pack to prevent it from melting!
After waiting a few minutes, Wen Jinnian reached out and took the packing bag.
She handed one of the portions to Chi Yige, then walked on by herself, taking a croissant for herself as well.

It looks like something straight out of a Korean Instagram page, and it's so delicious it'll leave you speechless.
It has a very rich milk flavor.
Wen Jinian narrowed her eyes, an expression of enjoyment unconsciously appearing on her face. It was indeed the same taste she remembered.
She took a big bite of the croissant, crisp crumbs falling onto the paper bag, a small piece of frosting sticking to the corner of her mouth.
She looked up and saw Chi Yige staring at the packaging bag with a conflicted expression, and deliberately pouted, "What are you standing there for?"
Seeing this, Chi Yige had no choice but to pick up the croissant and take a small bite.
The aroma of butter mixed with the scent of wheat exploded on his tongue. He frowned slightly, realizing that this was the first time he had ever tasted such a sweet treat, as he had always disliked sweets.
Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed Wen Jinnian's gaze fixed on him. Chi Yige gripped his croissant ice cream tightly and forced himself to take a second bite.
Crumbs of pastry landed on my lips, sending a shiver down my spine from the cold.
"Why is it bitter?" he mumbled, his brows furrowed as he chewed.
Wen Jinnian stared suspiciously at the ice cream cone in his hand. This man was still wearing a smart high-end trench coat, but at this moment he had lost his usual aura of keeping people at a distance. Instead, he looked like a child who had lost his composure because the ice cream was so bad.
"Bitter?" How could that be? Wen Jinian used to come to this shop often.
She felt uneasy under Chi Yige's alluring fox-like eyes; his direct gaze seemed to see right through her.
She coughed lightly. "Should I go buy another one?"
"That shouldn't be the case!" Wen Jinian muttered to herself.
Chi Yige suddenly handed her the uneaten side of the ice cream, raising an eyebrow and saying, "Why don't you try it and see?"
Wen Jinian hesitated for a moment, then leaned forward slightly and took a small bite, the cool sweetness spreading on her tongue.
"It's sweet? You're lying to me!"
She looked up and was met with Chi Yige's dazzling smile; his eyes were filled with starlight, as if they were about to suck her in.
Her heart skipped a beat, and she realized she had been teased. Her ears instantly turned bright red: "You, you!"
Her pouty expression is getting cuter and cuter.
Chi Yige chuckled softly and took another bite.
It's definitely sweeter now.
Wen Jinian noticed his actions and inexplicably recalled the unexpected kiss at their engagement party.
A burning sensation shot from her ears to her cheeks, and she turned her face away in a panic, but she couldn't suppress the turbulent emotions surging in her heart.
He actually ate the side she had just bitten.
As she quickened her pace and walked along the roadside, she caught sight of a small shop selling Cheung Chau glutinous rice balls.
Seeing that there was no one in line at the store, she went over to take a look and found that there were several flavors.
The shopkeeper greeted her warmly when he saw her. Wen Jinian ordered four flavors: red bean, durian, purple sweet potato, and mango, three of each, packed separately.
Just as she was about to take out her phone, Chi Yige, who was standing behind her, paid the bill first.
When someone paid, Wen Jinnian didn't stand on ceremony. She picked up the bag, casually pulled out a portion and handed it to the person next to her, then walked on by herself.
Suddenly, an urgent call came from behind: "Wen Jinnian!"
This was the first time he had called her name since they met.
Wen Jinnian turned around and saw him striding up to her and stopping in front of her.
She raised an eyebrow: "What's wrong? What else would you like to eat? It's on me."
Chi Yige swallowed back the words "Was it you five years ago?" that were on the tip of his tongue. Well, some things are better left unsaid.
"Thank you for the dessert."
Wen Jinian nodded, and the two strolled side by side toward the alley entrance, their steps leisurely yet tacitly in sync.
Perhaps it was her outstanding appearance that attracted so much attention, as people would often stop and stare at her.
As I looked up, a golden edge burst open on the horizon, and the rainbow after the rain slanted across the old and new buildings, bathing the dark green dome of Mong Kok East Station in a flowing halo of light.
A damp breeze carrying a sweet fragrance swept by, and the gloom in the cemetery seemed to be instantly dispelled by this rainbow.
The two walked side by side, the bluestone slabs under their feet still glistening with water.
Wen Jinian took a bite of the soft and chewy glutinous rice ball, its sweetness melting on her tongue, while out of the corner of her eye she saw Chi Yige also take a bite of the dessert in his hand.
Wen Jinnian laughed even more heartily, revealing two shallow dimples.
The Cantonese songs drifting from the street-side tea restaurant, mixed with the aroma of egg tarts, made even the sweetness just right.
Chi Yige suddenly realized that the sweetness in his hand was indeed too sweet, but not cloying.
I'm not so resistant to it anymore.
It turns out that without the tension, Wen Jinnian can be so relaxed in front of him.
Wen Jinian hesitated whether to suggest going home, since she had bought desserts for Fu Yiyi.
Just then, a familiar voice came from behind: "Niannian."
