Chapter 94: His official demeanor was even more frightening than the scar.
Chapter 94: His official demeanor was even more frightening than the scar.
Chi Yige leaned over the headboard, his breath brushing against her burning cheeks: "Wen, I'm so picky about beds that I can't live without you."
"And I really have severe insomnia." The last sentence sounded pitiful, like a little puppy.
Wen Jin thought, "Your formal attire makes your attempt to appear pitiful seem a bit out of place."
"Is this your excuse for wanting to stay?" She raised an eyebrow.
"You could say that's the truth." He raised an eyebrow and chuckled, his fingertips catching a stray strand of her hair as he played with it. "If I don't shamelessly take the plunge, when will I ever be able to officially become your 'boyfriend' or 'fiancé'?"
After saying that, he straightened up and walked towards the bathroom, not forgetting to say "Wait for me" before turning around.
As the door slammed shut, Wen Jinian buried her face in the pillow, but her burning earlobes betrayed her.
That smiling "Wait for me" melted in my heart like a piece of candy, so sweet it made me feel flustered.
Chi Yige came out of the bathroom, drying his wet hair, and immediately saw a small figure curled up in the quilt, the slight trembling causing the bedding to rise and fall.
He chuckled softly, turned around and went out first, dried his hair thoroughly, changed into loose pajamas, and then slowly walked to the bedside.
The bed sank with his weight, and Wen Jinnian's back straightened instantly. She closed her eyes and pretended to be asleep.
She heard the rustling of blankets behind her, and the next second, warm arms had already wrapped around her neck, pulling her tightly into a hug.
"I know you're not asleep, Wen."
Chi Yige's voice, warm and seductive, brushed past my ear, "Don't worry, I'll conserve my energy tonight. —When I'm ready to unleash my power, don't beg for mercy."
Wen Jinian suddenly turned her head, her lips almost touching his, and the sly smile in the man's eyes was almost overflowing.
She struggled to push him away, but her wrist was firmly gripped, and she was pulled even tighter. "Sweetie, go to sleep."
He lowered his head and kissed her forehead, his breath coaxing as it brushed against the top of her head. "This is perfectly normal."
Wen Jinian angrily tried to kick him, but Chi Yige easily dodged it.
“If you move again…” He paused deliberately, a low warning escaping his throat, “I can’t guarantee what might happen.”
She retorted defiantly, "Try? My Taekwondo isn't to be underestimated either. At worst, you'll have another sleepless night!"
"Insomnia?" Chi Yige laughed upon hearing this, his chest vibrating against her back.
“The Duan brothers nag me every day, I’m so tired of hearing it.”
He tightened his arms, unable to suppress the smile on his lips. "Go to sleep."
---
The next day.
Wen Jinnian saw her aunt off on the tour bus, and then made a special video call to give her repeated instructions. Only after confirming that everything was alright did she rush off to work.
The weather in the port area in June is unpredictable; the mornings may be sunny and bright, while the afternoons may bring torrential rain.
That evening, Wen Jinnian accompanied Fu Yiyi to the villa area on Victoria Peak to draw a custom comic for a client.
Upon arrival, they discovered that the client was actually a relative of Fu Yiyi's mother.
Today happens to be the birthday of the matriarch of the Fu family. In order to keep a low profile, only close relatives and friends were invited to the gathering.
Passing through the carved wooden corridor and around the plain screen, the host had thoughtfully prepared a table of food, and even prepared a special portion for Wen Jinnian.
With her work on her mind, she quickly ate a few bites of food, then took out her sketchbook and drawing tools to begin preparing.
At the birthday banquet, the entire Fu family sat around a table, with the sounds of clinking glasses and children's laughter filling the air.
Wen Jinnian set up her easel and quickly sketched the lively and warm panorama of the banquet. Then she captured the smile in the old lady's eyes when she clinked glasses with her grandchildren, and the affectionate gestures of the younger generation surrounding the birthday celebrant.
Ten comic strips were slowly completed under Wen Jinnian's pen, taking nearly two hours.
She shook her numb fingers, her gaze sweeping over the frozen scene of revelry in the painting.
Grandma Fu's eyes crinkled with laughter, and the playful expressions of her grandchildren holding up longevity peaches were vividly captured on paper. "Miss Wen! This painting perfectly captures my heart!"
Mrs. Fu held the comic book with great delight, her eyes crinkling with joy as she smiled. "I originally wanted my daughter Yiyi to draw it, but she praised you for being even better. You truly live up to your reputation!"
Wen Jinian quickly stood up and bowed slightly, her voice sweet and clear: "I wish you boundless happiness and longevity! It's just fulfilling my duty."
Everyone gathered around, flipping through the portraits one by one, exclaiming in admiration. The portrait of the old lady, in particular, perfectly captured her kind and gentle expression.
As the birthday banquet drew to a close, the younger members of the Fu family warmly invited her to participate in the follow-up programs, but Wen Jinian politely declined.
She neatly packed up her easel and tools and walked out of the villa.
Unexpectedly, just as they reached the door, they bumped into a middle-aged man in a suit.
Two tall and imposing attendants followed behind him, their steps steady yet exuding an aura of authority.
Upon seeing Wen Jinnian, he abruptly stopped, his gaze sweeping over her from head to toe: "You are Miss Wen?"
Wen Jinnian's heart skipped a beat, and she nodded subconsciously: "Who are you?"
"My surname is Chi."
The middle-aged man smiled slightly, revealing a friendly expression.
That angular face bore a five or six-point resemblance to Chi Yige, but lacked the sharp edge of Chi Yige's features, instead exuding the composure of a superior.
Chi Yige's captivating eyes resembled her mother's, while the man before her, though lacking any overbearing airs, possessed a dignified presence accumulated over the years in every gesture.
Wen Jinnian's throat tightened, and she managed to squeeze out a "Mr. Chi".
Chi Ce laughed heartily, his eyes revealing a knowing understanding: "So it was you. That brat hid himself well, afraid I'd scare you."
She unconsciously twisted the strap of her art supplies with her fingertips, not even clearing up her relationship with Chi Yige, just taking things one step at a time according to her heart.
Now that he had been exposed, he felt somewhat at a loss.
Seeing her stiffen, Chi Ce raised his hand in a gesture of gesturing: "I'll go offer my congratulations. If Miss Wen doesn't mind, would you do me the honor of chatting for a few minutes later?"
She swallowed the words of refusal that were on the tip of her tongue, and nodded with her lips pursed.
Chi Ce turned to his men and instructed them, "Take Miss Wen to my car to rest."
The latter bowed and gestured for someone to lead the way.
Wen Jinnian gripped her canvas bag tightly and walked along the gravel path toward the van deep in the woods.
Chi Ce returned to the villa less than five minutes later. He saw his son leaning against the car window, smoking, and couldn't help but sneer, "You're quick on your feet."
Chi Yige raised his eyes, his white shirt sleeves casually rolled up, and his wristwatch reflected a cold light in the moonlight, making his expression even more indifferent.
"Old man, what exactly do you want?"
He scoffed lightly and flicked the ash from his cigarette with his fingertips.
Chi Ce was exasperated: "Don't think of me as something so terrible! I just wanted to chat with Wen. You're always treating me like a thief. Do you think I could scare someone to tears?"
"You don't have a scar on your face, but your official air is more frightening than a scar."
Chi Yige slowly adjusted his shirt collar. "Want to see her? Prepare a gift first."
After saying that, he waved his hand and walked straight to the Maybach on the left.
"That brat!" Chi Ce gritted his teeth, watching his retreating figure. His subordinates quickly smoothed things over, saying, "Young Master is truly fond of Miss Wen. They are a perfect match..."
"What do you mean 'perfect match'!" Chi Ce flung his sleeves and got into the car, but muttered to himself before the door closed, "If it really works out, I should take care of the kids in the future, so they won't be led astray by his temper."
His subordinate, suppressing a laugh, closed the car door for him.
