Chapter 118 What do I owe you?
It was a familiar female voice.

"Eno."

Her voice trembled with tears, filled with despair and numbness.

"Xia Yaoyao".

Xia Yaoyao seemed relieved. Holding her phone, she spoke with difficulty, "Jiang Ye, I'm sorry to bother you again."

"I just want to apologize to you. I've been thinking about it, and it seems like I've wronged you the most in my life. Can you forgive me?"

Qin Zhao remained silent.

Xia Yaoyao laughed through her tears: "It's okay, it's understandable that you don't forgive me. I just wanted to apologize to you. I'm sorry, Jiang Ye."

The sounds of the wind and traffic on her side made her voice difficult to distinguish.

"Jiang Ye, you must be happy."

"Xia Yaoyao!" Qin Zhao called out. This wasn't a phone call; it was practically a suicide note. "What's wrong?"

"It's nothing, I just missed you a little." Xia Yaoyao wiped away her tears. "I don't know who else to miss? It seems like only you, but I did something wrong to you again. This world is so cruel, Jiang Ye, and I'm pretty bad too. I thought I should apologize to you, please forgive me?"

Qin Zhao pursed his lips: "Where are you?"

“I’m on a bridge. It’s pretty here, with neon lights flashing.” Xia Yaoyao’s eyes widened. “Don’t come looking for me. I’ve already made up my mind.”

"What have you thought about!" Qin Zhao frowned and called the police, asking them to locate her phone.

"I don't forgive you. Why should I forgive you just because you casually said sorry over the phone? What have you done to back up your apology? You didn't even have the sincerity to apologize in person!"

Xia Yaoyao lowered her head: "You don't want to see me."

The police located Xia Yaoyao on the overpass next to Yunhu Square in B City and dispatched the nearest officers there.

When Qin Zhao arrived, a crowd had already gathered on the overpass, the road below was blocked off, the yellow rescue airbag had been deployed, and Xia Yaoyao had already stepped one leg out.

Qin Zhao ran all the way up to the overpass.

The firefighters nearby advised, "Little girl, talk things out. You're not that old, you have a long life ahead of you."

"The problems you are facing now will seem insignificant in the future."

Xia Yaoyao looked down at the neon lights below, thousands of lights, but not a single one was lit for her.

The wind blew through her hair, and she looked shaky: "There's no future."

The world doesn't welcome her at all.

"Are you pregnant?" the experienced firefighter asked tentatively, noticing.

Xia Yaoyao placed her hand on her lower abdomen, her expression pained.

“She still wants to see the world,” the firefighter advised. “I also have a child, only three years old, so adorable. Every time I see him, I forget all my tiredness and can overcome any obstacle.”

Do you love your child very much?

"Of course I love him. I'm his father, what parent doesn't love their child?"

“There are so many.” Xia Yaoyao counted. Her parents didn’t love her, nor did they love her younger sister.

Jiang Yu didn't love the child in her belly either.

"Is your child a boy?" she suddenly asked.

"Yes, it's a son."

"No wonder." Xia Yaoyao smiled knowingly, and stretched her leg out a little further.

"No, no, no!" the firefighter panicked. "Sons and daughters are the same."

"do not come!"

"We're not going over there, don't get agitated! Don't get agitated!" the firefighter said, trying to calm him down. "Let's talk things over. Your friend, your friend is coming soon."

"Friends?" Jiang Ye's face flashed through her mind, then she shook her head. "I have no friends." She would never forgive her.

“Your friend is here,” the firefighter said, pointing. “Isn’t she your friend?”

Xia Yaoyao looked at Qin Zhao at the stairwell, and the firefighter quickly grabbed her arm while she was distracted.

She screamed and was pulled down before she could struggle.

The firefighters shielded her with their bodies, ensuring she landed safely.

The remaining firefighters quickly surrounded her, preventing her from getting any closer to the bridge.

"Let me go! Let me go!" Xia Yaoyao cried out desperately, "Don't I even have the freedom to live anymore?!"

"Xia Yaoyao." Qin Zhao ran up, her eyes reddened by the wind.

Upon hearing her voice, Xia Yaoyao stopped struggling, paused for two seconds, and then burst into tears.

Having run so fast, his thighs were sore and weak. Qin Zhao knelt down in front of her and asked, "What do you want to do?"

Xia Yaoyao shook her head, crying, "You shouldn't have come, Jiang Ye, you shouldn't have come."

"Then why did you call me?" Qin Zhao's tone was calm, but a closer listen revealed a growing unease in her voice. "Do you want me to feel guilty for the rest of my life after I find out the news?"

"Hmm? Xia Yaoyao." She looked at her. "You keep saying you want to apologize, but in the end, you just want me to bear the blame for being the perpetrator, is that it?"

"I didn't, I didn't." Xia Yaoyao cried. She didn't know who to say goodbye to. The world was so big, and there was no one who cared about her.

Firefighter: "Let's talk things out. There's no hurdle we can't overcome."

He looked at Qin Zhao: "Do you know her family's phone number? They're really something, leaving a pregnant woman out alone so late, and they haven't even made a single phone call."

Pregnant woman.

Qin Zhao's gaze fell on her stomach, where her lower abdomen was already protruding.

Upon hearing this, Xia Yaoyao quickly blocked her way, not daring to look at her.

As Qin Zhao lowered his eyes, Xia Yaoyao ran towards the glass railing again.

The firefighter reacted quickly, grabbing her arm and preventing her from moving: "You little rascal—"

Qin Zhao watched as the figure swept past her and was pulled back. Below, neon lights flickered, the road was blocked, and the road ahead was completely jammed.

From this vantage point, the enormous car looks like a series of tiny dots.

The wind howled against my face, making my eyes hurt.

"Xia Yaoyao!" Qin Zhao shouted at her for the first time, "Do you really want to die?!"

"If you're so eager to die, why did you call me! You should just go quietly!"

The firefighter advised her, "She's very emotional right now, don't upset her."

"I provoked her! Wasn't she provoking me?!" Qin Zhao's eyes reddened. "What do I owe you that you treat me like this!"

She pointed at the vehicles under the overpass, then at the firefighters: "What do they owe you!"

"You jump down, you'll feel better. But what about the cars you hit? Don't they want to live?!"

"What about us who witnessed this?! Do you want us to spend the rest of our lives feeling guilty for not stopping you back then?!"

Firefighters have encountered many such incidents when responding to calls. It's good that they manage to rescue the person safely; no matter how difficult the process is, it's all worth it.

If someone is not safely rescued, the rescue team will have to provide psychological support for a long time. Some of them cannot get over it, which not only ruins their careers but also causes great problems in their lives.

Qin Zhao's words resonated deeply with them.

The next chapter is a bit late, before 1 AM... I was originally planning to ask for leave, but seeing your votes and comments, I felt guilty and uneasy if I didn't update, so I went back to the hotel to continue writing...
