I must draw my sword immediately!
Chapter 14 The True Knight, Edoardo
Chapter 14 The True Knight, Edoardo
As the sun gradually sank in the west, the carnage on the chaotic battlefield continued.
The heavily armored Companion Cavalry, under the Macedonian king's banner, stood silently in a line on the only road leading to the central army.
The cavalry captain at the head of the group had short black hair and wore a dark blue cloak with a standing yellow lion printed on it.
He looked toward the east side of the battlefield.
The Companion cavalry, led by Seleucus, had driven King Uther's routed army into a corner and were carrying out a final slaughter.
But this has nothing to do with Hector.
At this moment, he had an even more important matter to attend to immediately: to meet someone whom the entire cavalry regiment had to prepare for battle.
A true knight, Edoo!
Hector raised his hand and rubbed his stiff neck. After receiving Lars's urgent message, he immediately led the entire cavalry regiment to line up along the road, ready to welcome the real knight and bestow upon him the highest respect from his fellow cavalrymen.
But where are the people?
However, after waiting for a long time, there was still no sign of anyone.
Hector did not doubt the knight's authenticity, for countless soldiers had witnessed the knight charging toward his doom. What worried him more was whether the knight might have fallen halfway through his mission.
That's such a shame!
Thinking of this, his expression hardened, and he turned to his deputy to ask:
"Have the military orders been issued? Have the scouts found the knight?"
"No." The adjutant shook his head.
“From the royal banner to the entire central army, from the central army to the square formation legion, and from the square formation legion to the light infantry regiments on both flanks, manpower has been mobilized to conduct a carpet search, but the information obtained is very vague.”
"Almost all the soldiers along our route claimed to have seen the knight who charged into battle, but the reports from different places were strange."
"The central guards said he charged straight toward the royal banner and was coming to your side at top speed, while a group of light infantrymen below said they saw the knight veer off course and then run away."
"?"
Hector blinked, tilted his head, and his gaze turned fierce.
That was a ferocious gaze that could almost scrape a person's skin off.
"What do those peasants know?"
"A noble knight, even in the final moments of his life, would launch such a desperate charge. Such a true knight's conviction is beyond question, and I will not allow anyone to insult this knight in any way!"
And at this moment,
"boom!"
In response to the reddish-brown magic signal flare fired by the central army, a green signal flare rose high from the hills outside the military formation.
"found it!"
Hector was invigorated.
The adjutant frowned slightly, his expression somewhat strange.
"Hmm? This location is the direction Lars set off to relay the message, but that place is in the reconnaissance direction of the 45th Scout Squad. Knight Edoardo... uh, did he run back again?"
"Stop nagging, you old man, come with me to greet this knight!"
Hector brandished his banner and raised his lance high.
He had his back turned, and the fiery sun formed a halo around the back of his head.
The great banner fluttered and rustled in the fierce wind of the battlefield.
"Companion Cavalry—"
Hector's eyes widened, a triumphant smile spreading across his lips, and he roared:
"Let us go and fetch this knight, and take him home!"
Having said that, he spurred his horse on with both legs and charged out of the battlefield first!
Behind him, over a hundred knights drew their lances and roared as they followed!
"--oh!!!"
#
The trenches at the point where the 45th Scout Squad passed through.
"It's Aido Ado!"
Lars, his hands trembling, leaped off his horse and quickly jumped into the trench, amidst the strange, shocked, or astonished gazes of the group behind him.
With the utmost reverence, as if cradling the corpse of God, he tiptoed to the spot where the first Macedonian scout, whom Suya had killed, lay dead, and gently lifted the body.
"Without a doubt, I remember him—this sword wound, this face!"
Lars's tiger-like eyes trembled slightly, his eyes reddened, and his hands trembled uncontrollably.
"But why is he here!?"
"Shugus, tell me, why did Edoardo return here!?"
"I don't know, Sir, I really don't know."
Xiu Gus found the scene before him utterly ridiculous, and he almost burst out laughing on the spot.
Looking at the corpse of his subordinate Edoardo, he felt inexplicably both amused and pathetic. Edoardo had only died at the hands of that murderer and swindler along with Wallace, another of Hughes's men, yet he was regarded as a 'true knight' because that swindler had deceived these fools.
What about Wallace next to him?
Just like this, like the weeds that are everywhere in this world,
No one cared, no one paid attention, and even the truth was known only to himself.
but,
Thugus did not expose him.
He laughed, then immediately realized it was inappropriate to laugh in this atmosphere. He instantly straightened his face, like a skilled actor.
He walked forward with a stern face and pointed to another corpse in the trench, the body of Arthur Pendragon, blond, blue-eyed, with a ferocious face and a huge, piercing sword wound in his chest.
Xiu Gus spoke in a serious and deep voice:
“Sir, I suspect that Edoardo has returned here to rescue his teammates who were covering his escape from Arthur Pendragon.”
"Just as you said, he is a knight of high moral character. He may have realized that he could not reach the general, or he may have realized that he had already delivered the message and that you and the commander would definitely find him. So he immediately turned back here and chose to live and die with his comrades!"
"For my teammates, and to help the army, I must find Arthur Pendragon!"
"Hiss!" Lars's eyes widened in horror.
He stared incredulously at the knight Edoardo, whose death was so gruesome, in his arms.
He hesitated, as if he wanted to say something, but the words trembled so much that he couldn't form any coherent sentences.
"Lars, he did it!"
Beside him, another blue-haired youth, the knight on the right whom Suya had encountered, patted his younger brother on the shoulder, his face filled with a mixture of unbearable pity and anger.
"He did it!"
"He has done everything a knight should do; his life is complete!"
"Look—this wicked man!"
"Arthur Pendragon!"
"With the combined efforts of Edoardo and his unnamed but equally noble knight teammate, they defeated him!"
“Sir, his name is Wallace,” Hughes reminded him at the opportune moment.
“Yes, Wallace, Edoardo, they are true knights! Lars, we should be happy for them, we should be happy for them.”
As the blue-haired youth spoke, he suddenly choked up, a tear streaming down his face, his eyes burning with anger like a flame.
"Brother Woven, you..."
"I understand, I understand, we must prove the merits of these two knights!"
"From this moment forward, all personnel in my unit shall remain stationed in place—"
"Until Commander Hector arrives here!"
The young man known as Woven's eyes flashed with a fierce light. He immediately gave the order, then drew an alchemical gun that looked like a signal flare, with a rather thick barrel, and raised it into the sky.
"boom!"
A green signal flare rose high from the hills.
Seeing this, Xiu Gu Si couldn't help but curse under his breath.
If we delay any longer, the real murderer who killed Edordo, Wallace, and this blond knight whose name we don't know but is now called Arthur Pendragon will disappear without a trace!
He stepped forward, controlling his facial muscles, and squeezed out two tears to make his eyes appear red.
Then, with a sorrowful expression, he choked out to Sir Warwin, the one who truly held the power in this cavalry squad:
"Sir, I wanted to present flowers to my men, but I—I couldn't. But I think there's still one thing I can do for them—"
"I understand, please accept my condolences." Woven patted him on the shoulder and sighed.
"Go."
"At the western pass, I saw white roses, and I thought—"
Waven suddenly recalled the bouquet of white roses that Edoardo had held when he stormed the central army alone. After a moment's thought, he removed his gauntlet, took a heraldic ring from his ring finger, and tossed it to Shugus, a sharp glint in his eyes.
"Whatever you want to do,"
"Thief, you must return here with the most beautiful flowers in all of Cornwall!"
Xiu Gus immediately knelt on one knee, bowed his head, and accepted the heraldic ring with both hands.
In places where no one can see,
A cold, indifferent killing intent flashed in his eyes.
"As ordered!"
