Chapter 26 The Whistleblower (Please continue reading)
The encounter with Hypatia was a pleasant surprise.

Luo Qing only vaguely sensed that Zhi Zi was in this direction, so he came to the tavern to try his luck.

Unexpectedly, Tomoko was also instructing this ETO girl to meet with her.

However, Sophon seemed to have misjudged one thing: the girl in front of him did not seem to regard the Trisolarans as her 'masters'. Her loyalty seemed to be directed only at ETO itself, not the Trisolarans.

Although she was holding a child, Hypatia's pride was almost overflowing.

This is a girl who refuses to be controlled by others.
Hypatia said, "I am a liberal member, and I am fundamentally different from the Adventists, Salvationists, and Survivors. There are many factions within the organization, I'm sorry to have embarrassed you."

Luo Qing nodded: "Liberals, I know. They are not loyal to the Trisolaran civilization, but they are loyal to the ETO organization. They can be considered the private forces of some high-ranking members of the ETO, right?"

“You know more about ETO than I thought.”

“I have all of PDC’s intelligence sources behind me.” Luo Qing pointed to his head. “By the way, why did Zhizi send you?”

“I am the only ETO member nearby who is not monitored by PDC, and they have no one else to use.”

Luo Qing nodded: "I noticed you said you were one of the 34 whistleblowers? Could you explain to me in detail what a whistleblower is?"

"of course."

Hypatia ignored Somoko's warning and briefly explained the task ETO had given her.

"Whistleblower is a euphemism used by the organization. In my eyes, a whistleblower is just a security guard in the monitoring room."

"I was responsible for monitoring Luo Ji's sophons during certain periods of time. I had two other partners at the same time, one of whom was French and the other was Chinese, both of whom were girls."

"The three of us are responsible for observing the daily life of the Wallfacer Luo Ji, and watching his every move. If Dr. Luo Ji is busy: for example, going out with Zhuang Yan, sketching, cooking, or making love, then it is generally safe."

Luo Qing let out a shout.

"So, under what circumstances is it unsafe?"

Hypatia pondered for a moment, then gave a concise answer.

"Luo Ji is thinking."

"think?"

Hypatia nodded, gently patting Little Pillow Star's back until she finally lulled the child to sleep, a hint of helplessness in her eyes.

"The Trisolarans do not want Luo Ji to be thinking for too long. If his thinking time exceeds a certain threshold, then the organization needs to find a way to interrupt his thinking."

"For example?" Luo Qing asked again.

Hypatia spoke candidly: "In the past six years, the Wallfacer Luo Ji has triggered a total of 23 alerts for exceeding his thinking threshold. The thoughts generated under these specific circumstances have caused panic among the Trisolarans, who will order the organization to find ways to interrupt Luo Ji's thinking."

"Eden's defenses were so tight, how did you manage to break through?"

"If the hard approach doesn't work, we'll try the soft approach; there are all sorts of methods. There are many smart people in the organization."

Hypatia gave several examples: "For instance, hiring villagers to set off a large firecracker near the Garden of Eden, or flying in some safe drones to drop advertisements, or hijacking TV programs to show pornography, or sending people to impersonate internet trolls and argue with Luo Ji."

We occasionally hire women to run naked into the Garden of Eden under the guise of environmentalism, we use electronic chips to control flocks of sheep to invade the Garden of Eden, we've even triggered spectacular avalanches with sonic weapons, and we've self-destructed a member of ETO's private satellite to create a meteor shower. We'll stop at nothing to disrupt the Wallfacer's (Luo Ji's) train of thought.

Luo Qing became increasingly shocked as she listened.

ETO has quite a few tricks up its sleeve.

No wonder Luo Ji lived here for six years and didn't come up with anything.

It would be a miracle if you could figure it out.

Hypatia, holding Luo Zhenxing, continued, "Besides sudden events, the organization has also devised many covert interference methods, such as creating news that interests him to attract the attention of Luo Ji, the daily Wallfacer."

Alternatively, one could start with Zhuang Yan, praising a certain painter for creating a masterpiece, thereby indirectly interrupting Dr. Luo Ji's thinking by attracting Zhuang Yan's attention.

After the stars were born, the organization had even more ways to interrupt their thinking. Family was a burden for Luo Ji, the Wallfacer. Although PDC recognized this, it didn't change anything, which gave the organization many opportunities.

Luo Qing was surprised by the Norwegian girl's frankness.

If all liberals are like Hypatia, then perhaps it's worth trying to win them over, just like we tried to win over the survivors back then. Luo Qing pondered for a moment: "Do you have any more direct methods?"

“Yes, but it wasn’t an organization; it was the Trisolarans who took direct action,” Hypatia nodded.

Luo Qing became interested.

Hypatia said, "The most serious alarm was a year ago, after the Wallfacer Taylor met the Wallfacer Luo Ji and committed suicide. Luo Ji walked alone on the edge of the frozen lake late at night and fell into deep thought."

"We, the whistleblowers, call this reflection the enlightenment of the icy lake."

"Luo Ji's enlightenment at the Ice Lake caused panic among the Trisolarans because his location was very remote and it was late at night, so the organization's pre-prepared methods of influence failed."

"The Wallfacer Luo Ji lay on the surface of the frozen lake, gazing at the starry sky in the universe. This 47-minute period of contemplation almost prompted all 34 whistleblowers to issue the highest level of warning."

Luo Qing asked, "But he didn't succeed, right?"

Hypatia nodded.

"At this critical moment, the Trisolarans risked projecting their sophons directly into Zhuang Yan's line of sight and carried out the first strategic deception in the history of the Trisolaran civilization: they tricked Zhuang Yan into believing that Luo Ji was going to commit suicide."

Luo Ji attempts suicide by the frozen lake.

—These words suddenly appeared in Zhuang Yan's line of sight.

Unable to contact Luo Ji or verify Zhi Zi's information, Zhuang Yan quickly panicked. She called Zhang Xiang and Kant, and with a guard team, they rushed to the lakeside and found Luo Ji lying on the frozen lake.

Hypatia covered her mouth and chuckled: "That was the first time I saw the astonished look on Luo Ji's face. Although Zhuang Yan explained the whole story to him later, Luo Ji never found that feeling again."

"The enlightenment at the ice lake that the Trisolarans were most worried about was interrupted."

Luo Qing sighed softly, "Hypatia, your frankness surprises me."

"I think I said something I shouldn't have. Tomoko is dancing in my eyes." Hypatia smiled gently, then lowered her head and looked at the little pillow star who was curled up asleep in her arms with a doting gaze.

'He's so cute.'

For no apparent reason, Hypatia suddenly felt a strong sense of jealousy towards Zhuang Yan.

Why is she able to give birth to such an adorable baby?
Why am I unable to have children, and why was my childhood so tragic?

Why am I still being coerced and begged by my family?
Why did the organization help me, only to place even greater constraints on me?
Why can't the Luo Zhen Xing belong to me...?

If only he were mine...

But Hypatia's jealousy was extinguished by Luo Qing before it could even begin to ignite:

“I can get Luo Zhenxing to recognize you as her godmother.”

"Eh?"

The Norwegian girl's face flushed red instantly. She held the child helplessly, stammering, "This, this can't be... How can I be his mother... Really? I'm his mother? I'm his mother!"

Goodness, they automatically ignored the word 'dry', huh?

Luo Qing poured the last bit of industrial wine into his mouth, savoring its rich sourness, and grinned.

The girl in front of me was sitting on the stool, wriggling like a worm.

As if filled with endless shyness, Hypatia, holding Luo Zhenxing, said in a voice so soft it was almost inaudible, even to Luo Qing's spiritual sense: "Xingxing, be good, Mom... Mom will sing you a lullaby~"

Hypatia's painless motherhood silenced the Trisolaran world behind Sophon.

The Trisolarans knew that female humans were animals whose emotions outweighed their reasoning, but with ETO commanders like Ye Wenjie as role models, they had not yet witnessed the terrifying nature of women when their emotions ran rampant.

But today, they witnessed it.

Ideals and beliefs are utterly vulnerable in the face of emotions.

The ETO liberals and the young woman were both blacklisted by the Trisolarans.
