Chapter 19 Meat Grinder

Milton's gaze skipped over the "boss" and went straight to Brandon.

As police officers, they should have received indoor combat training, or at least possess some basic common sense.

Brandon glanced at the booby trap by the door, then looked back and pointed to a crossroads, saying uncertainly, "I think this intersection might be a good ambush point."

"We'll ambush one person at each of the safe corners on either side of this intersection, and another person at the corner at the end of the corridor directly ahead. When the enemy approaches the intersection, we'll pull them out together. They'll have a hard time reacting."

When the attacking side faces an indoor intersection, especially the two players responsible for flanking, there is simply too much information to process simultaneously – the enemy can appear anywhere in the safe corner and only needs to set up one position.

The attacking side needs to process countless pieces of information and set up countless points.

All were unfavorable gun positions.

As long as the equipment and information gaps are not too large, this type of terrain can almost guarantee that the attacking side will suffer casualties.

In theory, it is an ideal firing point.

But Milton shook his head: "I think... this place is not good. First of all, this wave of enemies is likely carrying throwables. This place is too close to the entrance. When they arrive here, they will definitely still have plenty of grenades. The safe corner may not be safe."

"Moreover, the enemy outnumbers us, and we cannot afford to exchange casualties with them... If we set up an ambush at this intersection, the two people on either side of the intersection will be unable to retreat downstairs and regroup, and we will be constantly outnumbered and eliminated one by one by the enemy."

Brandon thought for a moment and agreed with Milton's suggestion, then said, "How about we set up another booby trap at this intersection? For example, we could place a corpse in the middle of the road and bury the booby trap underneath. If they accidentally kick it, it will be triggered, what do you think?"

Milton chuckled: "Booby traps are of course necessary... but the way you're setting them up will only delay them at best."

Brandon shook his head with a wry smile: "There's nothing we can do about it. Unless they're idiots, after being hit by a booby trap, they can't possibly miss the strange things on their inevitable path."

“You just said it was a necessary route.” Milton turned his gaze to both sides of the fork in the road. “Logically speaking, traps should be placed on the opponent’s necessary route, and preferably they should be sudden and hidden, like the tripwire mine I just placed.”

"But once the other party becomes wary, we need to think in reverse... We will set traps on routes that the other party feels they can choose to go or not go, so that they will lower their guard."

“Look, this left fork leads to a small storage room. Even from the doorway, there are almost no blind spots. The room is so small that no one would hide in such a deadly place… So for the attackers, this fork is very safe.”

"This road is neither a necessary route nor will it be used by enemies. But out of caution, they will probably still do a quick inspection."

Brandon was already confused, scratching his head: "Uh, so what?"

Milton explained, "The Van Conn gang sells medicine. We put a few slightly more valuable medicine boxes on the shelf so that the people who come to search won't see them. It's perfectly reasonable for a pharmacy to have medicine in it, and it won't arouse suspicion."

At this point, the officer gradually understood Milton's words: "You mean, take advantage of the gang's lack of discipline and personal greed, and leave something valuable on a non-essential route to trigger a trap?"

Milton replied, “Yes, we can also place some animal traps on the main path leading to the second basement level, but not on other paths, to reinforce the message that ‘the traps are all on the main path,’ ‘the off-path is safe,’ and ‘I can take this or not.’ These drugs aren’t particularly valuable, and they will further reduce the enemy’s vigilance.”

In short, do everything you can to imply to the enemy that this is not a necessary route, that no one will set a trap here, that these things are not particularly valuable, and that you came here of your own volition, not because we lured you here.

Brandon understood Milton's idea, but still raised a question: "What if they are still cautious and not blinded by greed, or too careless and didn't search that thoroughly at all?"

“Then consider it the loss of a booby trap.” Milton laughed. “I already said that it’s not a necessary route, so it’s perfectly normal for the enemy not to go there… Maybe a 20% chance, maybe a 30% chance? It’s just a matter of luck.”

“Officer Brandon, don’t think that taking a chance is a ridiculous thing. Victory is accumulated by one probability after another. If the enemy can dodge once or twice, can he dodge ten times? If we try to get more chances of 20 or 30%, the scales of victory will tip in our favor, understand?”

"The tactics for now... follow the usual procedure and see if we can take advantage of the three-dimensional firepower in the stairwell... retreat gradually, blocking layer by layer... don't linger in one place for too long, and immediately move to the next firing point as planned after revealing your position information, absolutely no hesitation... grenades and stun grenades... here's the walkie-talkie..."

After listening to the entire tactical plan, Brandon remained silent for a moment before asking, "You, you really aren't from Cabillis?"

Meticulous and insidious. Cabilis is the Guatemalan Army Special Operations Force.

Milton shook his head and said calmly, "It's going to be a tough fight. I hope to see you both at the pharmacy later. Let's go."

"What you said..."

Brandon suddenly realized that the three of them seemed like a highly capable and well-coordinated team.

Working with Milton is reassuring, reliable, and efficient. No matter the situation, he can provide a solution. Unlike many leaders who only criticize and complain, setting unrealistic goals while lacking competence themselves, leaving their subordinates resentful and dissatisfied.

In just over twenty minutes, they seemed to have formed a cohesive team! A team that would not back down even in the face of a powerful enemy.

But he and Milton have only known each other for a few hours!

Is this what personal charisma is?
Perhaps... following Milton might actually lead to wealth and success, and maybe even a decent position in the police force.

Brandon took a deep breath and followed Milton to the back.

Milton, gun in hand, strode toward his designated firing position... All the traps and booby traps were in place; the theoretical phase was over, and now it was time to fight.

In truth, Milton wasn't entirely confident facing five heavily armed enemies, and he had exhausted his options. But to build a cohesive team and gain their respect, he needed to be prepared and always have a solution.

Even if you have to pretend, you have to put on an act!

Five minutes later, Milton's noise-canceling headphones picked up a very faint conversation in front of them.

"Why is there no one on guard outside? How can they be so careless?"

"Probably messing around with women... These guys have always been like this, even the youngest one likes to play around, haha."

"Do you think everyone's like our boss, wearing bulletproof vests and carrying all his weapons when he goes out?"

"You go in first and call those good-for-nothings out to help us move the stuff on the truck. Don't think about playing around with women right now."

"If I catch that prosecutor, I'll definitely feed him to the dogs and hang him on a traffic light. It's a pity we haven't found his family yet."

"What you're doing is pointless... why not find a few gay men with AIDS and rape him to death?"

"Alright, you go ahead and move it. I'll go inside and call for help."

"..."

Bang bang bang!
After a perfunctory knock, Milton, who was crouching in the corner, heard the unpleasant scraping sound of the rusty bolt turning.

This is... the sewer door has been opened.

Click.

The booby trap made from an M374 shell was triggered.

Immediately afterwards, an extremely terrifying burst of flames engulfed the doorway, shattering the figure who opened it. Even though Milton was wearing headphones, he felt a violent tremor and impact!

boom!
