Chapter 19 Snake Beast Husband, Teng

Fu Ying blinked and followed him inside at a leisurely pace.

“Hua…” Green Mountain’s expression changed. Just as he was about to call out to her, he saw Sang Jie’s cold gaze fixed on him. She sneered, “Let her go! She’s just a disabled female. Who does she think she is?”

For females, the absence of star markings is indeed no different from a disability.

They were merely an affiliated tribe of the Cangshan tribe, yet they dared to enter and participate in the tribe's totem worship. They deserved their misfortune. Ha, once she was discovered, they could simply wait to go in and collect her corpse.

Green Mountain turned pale, staring at the thick smoke billowing from the Cangshan tribe, and dared not utter another word.

But she knew that Fuying probably wouldn't make it out alive.

Each tribe has its own unique totem, and totem worship is an extremely solemn ceremony in which people pray to the beast god. It is a form of human sacrifice, and outsiders who participate are considered to be blaspheming the beast god.

The Banshan tribe has not yet integrated into the Cangshan tribe and is still considered an outsider.

Fu Ying followed behind several sentry orcs, and soon arrived at a spacious altar.

The altar is paved with huge stone slabs, with a smooth surface, exuding an ancient and solemn atmosphere.

The altar was surrounded by a large crowd of people, all kneeling on the ground with their backs hunched over, their hands clasped together and their foreheads pressed against their palms, creating a solemn atmosphere.

Fu Ying saw Mo Yan kneeling at the very front, his posture equally devout.

Apart from the crackling of the flames swirling in the four corners, the scene was completely silent.

On the high altar stood a mysterious figure whose gender was indistinguishable.

He wore a snake-head mask, his snake eyes were cold and deep, as if he could see through all the secrets of the world.

As soon as the sentry orcs arrived at the scene, they seemed to be drawn by an invisible force and knelt down on the perimeter without hesitation, in the same posture, with utmost piety.

Fuying swept his gaze across the important ceremony, but his eyes were fixed on one spot.

It was a stone pillar standing on the altar, as thick as two people could hug, and it was very majestic.

The stone pillar is carved with a winding, coiled serpentine totem, with clearly visible scales, a slightly protruding tongue, and eyes that emit a cold, eerie light. It is so lifelike that it seems ready to break free of its restraints at any moment.

At this moment, a person is tied to the stone pillar.

The person was tightly bound by rough ropes, unable to move. His body was slightly tilted back, and his messy hair flew wildly, obscuring most of his face. Only the corners of his mouth, twisted in pain, and his body, trembling slightly under the ropes, could be vaguely seen. He looked particularly out of place on this solemn and mysterious altar.

Fuying recognized him at a glance.

Her serpent beast husband, Teng.

Just then, the mysterious figure on the altar spoke.

He knelt, his voice chilling: "The Cangshan tribe's cruelty towards the Beast God's messenger has enraged the Beast God, who has unleashed divine punishment! The earth-shaking tremors and rampant calamities are proof of this!"

"Today, the Cangshan tribe holds a totem sacrifice, offering our esteemed son of the snake clan leader, Teng, to the Beast God. With this sincere prayer, we beseech the Beast God to forgive our tribe's sins, quell his anger, and allow the Cangshan tribe to return to peace, freeing it from divine punishment!"

The person wearing the snake-head mask had a booming voice, and raised his hands high, as if making a loud announcement to the heavens.

As he finished speaking, the previously silent orcs of the Cangshan tribe shouted in unison, "We beg the Beast God to forgive our tribe's sins, quell our anger, and restore peace to the Cangshan tribe, sparing us from divine punishment—"

The sound shook the heavens. After a long while, the mysterious man stood up and picked up a blazing torch from the fire.

"Sacrifice—" he said, and was about to throw the firelight at the pile of dry firewood under the stone pillar.

Suddenly, the dragon on the stone pillar spoke. "Heh, heh heh..." it chuckled coldly, its hoarse voice sounding like that of a demon from hell.

He raised his head, his dark, almost emerald-green eyes scanning the crowd through his disheveled hair.

"Becoming a sacrifice is not what I wanted, I am filled with resentment!" Teng was tightly bound by ropes, and he spoke slowly and deliberately, his hoarse voice carrying a cold and violent tone, his eyes filled with resentment and determination.

"Today, since I am forced to offer myself as a sacrifice to the Beast God, I curse Fuying of the Fox Clan, that she shall surely die a horrible death! May calamity follow her like a shadow, devouring her relentlessly, causing her endless torment and suffering, never to find peace!"

He chuckled coldly, his voice echoing above the empty altar, filled with boundless hatred.

Standing at the back, Fu Ying listened to the lingering, persistent curse, and felt a chill in her heart.

The mysterious man glanced at Teng without saying a word. He was about to throw the torch at the woodpile when he suddenly stopped, his cold gaze fixed on the upright Fuying.

His voice was filled with deep anger: "Who are you? A totem priest, how dare you blaspheme the beast god?!"

Upon hearing this, the kneeling people of the Cangshan tribe were shocked and turned to look behind them.

When Mo Yan saw Fu Ying, his expression changed, and his voice was full of sinister intent: "How dare you!"

Teng's dark green eyes were also fixed on Fuying, exuding a chilling aura and a fierce intent.

"Who is this female? What is she doing in our Cangshan tribe?!"

"Blasphemy against the Beast God! Damn it! She should be thrown into the Serpent's Lair to be devoured to death!"

"Those who disrupt totem rituals should be killed!"

"..."

Facing the menacing crowd from the Cangshan tribe, Fu Ying remained fearless. Her alluring voice carried an undeniable authority as she coldly surveyed the group: "You are mistaken. The Beast God protects the beastmen; how could he indiscriminately kill them?"

The orcs gasped: "You dare question the shaman's decision?!"

Mo Yan's face darkened further. Although he suspected that this female was the one who had tricked him last night and wanted to keep her to provide him with convenience in the future, if she was courting death, then he couldn't blame anyone else.

Fu Ying sneered: "A witch? Indiscriminately killing one's own kind, what kind of witch is that, what kind of messenger of the beast god?"

The mysterious figure wearing a beast-head mask on the altar stared at Fu Ying, but wasn't angry. His cold voice rang out: "Disrupting the sacrifice and offending the Beast God, tie him up and throw him into the Cave of Ten Thousand Snakes."

Just as the orcs of the Cangshan tribe were about to make their move, Fu Ying smirked and looked down at them, saying, "Didn't you just say that killing the Beast God's messenger angered the Beast God? I am also a shaman; do you dare to kill me?"

As soon as he finished speaking, Fu Ying gently raised his hand, and a transparent talisman shot into the sky.

"Rumble--"

In an instant, a deafening roar, like a thunderclap from a clear sky, exploded in the heavens, and large raindrops poured down, pattering and splashing on the ground.

In the blink of an eye, the entire altar was enveloped by the sudden downpour.

However, what's even more bizarre is that while it's pouring rain here, the sky outside the altar remains clear, as if the rainwater can't spread. This scene is undeniably chilling.

The kneeling orcs looked terrified, all of them soaked to the bone.

In a short while, the torch in the mysterious man's hand, as well as the bonfires burning around him, were extinguished, and large plumes of smoke rose up.
