Chapter 123 Finding Textbooks

After discussing her minor with Ouyang Suiping, Su Nuannuan finished lunch and returned to her dormitory.

Since moving out of the dormitory, Su Nuannuan hasn't given up her bed. Instead, she's kept it so she can take a nap there at noon.

When Su Nuannuan returned, she saw Hong Xiu, Zhou Menglu, and Sun Xiuhua all in the dormitory.

After greeting the three of them, Su Nuannuan started chatting with Hong Xiu.

"Ah Xiu, do you know about minoring?"

Hong Xiu pushed up her black-rimmed glasses and said to Su Nuannuan.

"I know, your advisor has already talked to you about minoring?"

Su Nuannuan nodded.

"This morning I went to my advisor to register for a minor in Traditional Chinese Medicine Production. However, he wants me to go to the Traditional Chinese Medicine Production class next week to get used to it before deciding whether to approve my minor."

Hong Xiu looked at Su Nuannuan with disbelief after hearing her words.

"Your advisor actually wants you to get used to your minor major in advance?"

Su Nuannuan was puzzled by Hong Xiu's words.

"Yes, isn't that how your counselor is?"

Hong Xiu shook her head.

So Su Nuannuan told Hong Xiu about the two requests Ouyang Suiping had made to her. After she finished speaking, Su Nuannuan received an envious look from Hong Xiu.

“My advisor doesn’t care about all that. If you want to minor in another subject, he’ll agree right away. He’ll let you get used to it beforehand.”

After Hong Xiu finished speaking, she paused for a moment before continuing.

"Moreover, this is not in accordance with the school's regulations at all. To put you in another major and make you take the final exam, we need to use your advisor's personal connections."

Although Hong Xiu was an introverted and shy person, she had a keen understanding of basic human relationships and social customs.

Hearing Hong Xiu's words, Su Nuannuan's heart trembled.

She assumed all the counselors at Beijing University were as responsible as Professor Ouyang Suiping. She was wrong. Ouyang Suiping wasn't originally supposed to interfere in her affairs, but he still went to such lengths, all for her sake.

Su Nuannuan couldn't quite describe her feelings, but she couldn't deny that she was moved.

Su Nuannuan suppressed her emotions, smiled at Hong Xiu, and continued speaking.

"Ah Xiu, do you know any senior students majoring in Traditional Chinese Medicine preparation?"

Hong Xiu shook her head.

"I don't know them. Almost everyone I know is a clinical medicine major, and at most I know a few students majoring in traditional Chinese medicine."

What Hong Xiu didn't mention was that she was mostly in competition with the students majoring in Traditional Chinese Medicine. There was no way around it; ever since she became more familiar with the teachers, she couldn't avoid participating in their conversations. Whenever a teacher from the Traditional Chinese Medicine department got into a heated argument, the younger students would be dragged into supporting them.

Yes, it was definitely a quarrel. It's because Beijing University combines both clinical medicine and traditional Chinese medicine. The professors from the two disciplines don't get along, and their treatment views are always conflicting. So, they often discuss academic issues in the office.

Moreover, every discussion would involve these students, ostensibly for learning and exchange, to broaden their horizons. In reality, the older students would criticize from above, while the younger ones would each defend their own teacher.

Su Nuannuan was unaware of the complex relationship between clinical medicine and traditional Chinese medicine, and Hong Xiu hadn't explained it either. Anyway, Su Nuannuan would find out in her second year of university.

Su Nuannuan felt a little disappointed when she heard that Hong Xiu didn't know any of the students majoring in traditional Chinese medicine production.

Suddenly, she thought of Zhao Yalan.

Although she's only a Chinese literature teacher, she's been at the university for several years and must know students or teachers majoring in traditional Chinese medicine processing. Asking her for help should be possible.

Su Nuannuan didn't buy any books because the school would provide her with new textbooks if she passed her minor. There was no need to spend money on them. Another reason was that she had spent a lot of money on glass jars when she went home last time.

Su Nuannuan felt a pang of regret that her wallet was suddenly much emptier. She didn't want to spend money on unnecessary things. Therefore, when Ouyang Suiping mentioned looking for textbooks, she immediately ruled out buying new ones. Besides, her seniors' textbooks must contain the key points they had noted in class. At this point, the knowledge taught by teachers was very practical, unlike in her previous life where it was only meant to help you pass exams.

They are all essences, which greatly help Su Nuannuan in making potions.

Once she knew where to find the textbooks, Su Nuannuan stopped worrying about it.

In the afternoon, after class, Wang Dong found Su Nuannuan.

He handed the completed list of elective courses to Su Nuannuan.

"Su Nuannuan, take a look and make sure there are no problems with the courses you've chosen. Then I'll give this list to Teacher Ouyang."

Looking at the clearly listed elective courses in the notebook, Su Nuannuan mentally gave him a thumbs up. She had to admit, Wang Dong was quite capable to become class monitor.

The spreadsheet created by Wang Dong bears a resemblance to the Excel spreadsheet from a previous life.

Seeing her name hanging alone in the dance appreciation section, Su Nuannuan was speechless.

"Class monitor, why am I the only one here for the dance appreciation segment?"

Wang Dong rolled his eyes at Su Nuannuan, pointed to the list of other elective courses, and said irritably.

Do you think it's possible for them to learn dance appreciation?

Seeing that everyone Wang Dong was pointing at was clumsy and uncoordinated, Su Nuannuan took back what she was about to say.

Wang Dong thought Su Nuannuan was worried that she was the only one in class, so he comforted her.

"Don't worry, elective courses aren't just for our class; there are also courses for other majors. Plus, you might even be taking classes with some upperclassmen."

Su Nuannuan didn't know why Wang Dong said that, she just smiled and nodded.

Before arriving, Wang Dong had already had all the other students in the class confirm their names on the list in the boys' dormitory. If it weren't for Su Nuannuan, the only female classmate, this list would already be on Ouyang Suiping's desk by now.

After saying goodbye to Wang Dong, Su Nuannuan went home.

Back home, Su Nuannuan put down her schoolbag and then knocked on the door of the Chu family across the street.

The person who opened the door was Aunt Min, the Chu family's housekeeper. She smiled gently when she saw Su Nuannuan.

"It's Nuannuan, please come in."

Although the nanny wasn't a maid or slave like those in the Republican era, Aunt Min treated all the Chu family's guests with great courtesy. Even a young girl like Nuannuan, who wasn't yet an adult, was treated this way.

Su Nuannuan didn't correct her, after all, this was their survival rule.

Su Nuannuan did not go in directly, but asked.

"Aunt Min, is Sister Yalan home?"

"Yes, I am. Should I call Yalan out?"

Su Nuannuan shook her head and said.

"No need, I'll go find Sister Yalan directly."

After saying that, Su Nuannuan went inside.

"Aunt Min, could you call for Sister Yalan for me?"

After being led to the Chu family's living room by Aunt Min, and seeing that no one was around, Su Nuannuan spoke to Aunt Min.

Although she had visited the Chu family a few times, she didn't know exactly where Zhao Yalan lived. Besides, she couldn't just wander around when she was at someone else's house. So, she asked Aunt Min to call Yalan out.
