Chapter 5 "I changed my mind".

Yuska slowly swallowed the soup in her mouth, her expression calm. "Oh, I suddenly realize that Dad's previous considerations made a lot of sense. I've changed my mind."

While the restless family members were still staring in shock, Yuska continued speaking, seemingly unaware of the uproar her words would cause in the household.

"I don't care for rotten cucumbers."

You Kuiqing moved her lips, as if to say, "It seems Gu Yu has only dated one girlfriend, right? How did that become a rotten cucumber?"

Before he could finish speaking, Yustya tilted her head and then uttered some outrageous words—

"I don't want the junk that others don't want."

Yu Kuiqing: "..."

She couldn't help but reach out and touch Yuska's forehead. This unusual behavior was really unlike her young mistress.

Mr. You was the quickest to react. Although he didn't know why his eldest daughter had suddenly changed her behavior, he didn't actually think highly of Gu Yu if it weren't for You Sijia's insistence.

However, compared to the potential benefits of a marriage alliance based on family interests, he preferred Yuska's own choice.

"You know what the two families were originally planning to do tonight, right?" Mr. You asked.

You Sijia nodded. Her childhood friendship with Gu Yu over the years was no joke; Gu Yu's mother, Ms. Qian Shanjing, liked her very much. Later, after You Sijia married Gu Yu, she accidentally learned that Gu Yu's breakup with Tang Yayi was not only because Tang Yayi returned to China to develop her career, but also because the Gu family looked down on the Tang family.
However, Qian Shanjing treated her very well. From childhood to adulthood, You Sijia had heard Qian Shanjing say countless times that she hoped she could be her daughter, or even if she wasn't her daughter, being her daughter-in-law would be nice too.

When she married Gu Yu, she must have considered this aspect.

If she marries Gu Yu, she won't have any problems with her mother-in-law at all.

“I know, but this wasn’t settled to begin with, was it? Besides, Gu Yu might not even want to marry me. So this is perfect, since neither of us is interested, let’s just treat it as a normal welcome dinner,” You Sijia said.

“If you’re not going to be with Gu Yu, then you need to consider the situation in Beijing…” You Kuiqing frowned. She only saw Gu Yu as an ordinary neighbor, neither particularly fond of him nor disliking him. However, compared to You Sijia marrying far away to Beijing, she would much rather You Sijia stay in Nancheng.

At least, if anything happens in Nancheng, she can get to Yousijia's side immediately.

"Oh, Meng Weiyuan?" You Sijia mentioned the name calmly. Before this, whenever her father mentioned the Meng family, she would act like a ruffled little peacock. Now, her voice sounded very calm, and she even took the initiative to mention this person. "Whatever."

She hadn't actually had much direct contact with Meng Weiyuan; due to her previous fierce resistance, she had never even met him.

However, perhaps because of her status as a "marriage partner once considered," when You Sijia married Gu Yu, she received a wedding gift from him.

It wasn't some fancy jewelry or luxury item, but a set of first-edition books by one of her favorite illustrators that was now out of print, complete with her autograph.

When Yu Sijia first received the gift, she thought it was a gift from Jiang Lingyu.

After all, the second sister, You Kuiqing, is a rigid money-grubbing maniac. Only her best friend, Jiang Lingyu, would go to great lengths to collect things she likes and give her gifts to please her.

I never expected it to be Meng Weiyuan.

Looking back now, Yusjia thinks with a touch of self-mockery that the gifts she received from the person she liked, even someone she grew up with, were less thoughtful than those from a stranger.

Gu Yu has no feelings for her, so why should she hang herself on such a second-hand man?

The Meng family is only in Beijing, which is still within the country. If she wants to go home, she can come back anytime. It's nothing like going abroad with Gu Yu. Even if there's a private plane, it would still be a flight of more than ten hours.

Thinking about this, Yuska felt relieved.

The three people remaining at the table stared at each other in bewilderment. Yuska still remembered that dinner.

When she saw Gu Yu, she didn't hide her good mood at all and sat down next to Gu Yu in the private room.

Now, when You Sijia and You Kuiqing walked into the private room together, she was momentarily stunned when she saw Gu Yu already sitting inside.

Gu Yu, who had just graduated and returned to China, still looked somewhat youthful. His captivating peach blossom eyes curved slightly when he saw her, flashing a smile.

"Jia Jia."

Yu Sijia nodded politely, "Gu Yu."

Gu Yu raised an eyebrow slightly. In the past, when You Sijia saw him, she was like a sweet piece of milk candy, calling him "Brother Gu Yu." Her voice sounded sweet and coquettish, making it hard to dislike her.

But today, things seem a little different.

"Not in a good mood?" Gu Yu reached out and pulled out the chair next to him. Since he had come to the dinner party tonight, it meant he knew and agreed with his parents' decision. "Come sit down and let's talk."

The tone was just like when he comforted Yustia every time she was in a bad mood as a child.

Yusjia shook her head, "It's okay, I'll just sit next to the second brother."

Gu Yu looked at You Sijia sitting diagonally opposite him, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes.

But now Yu Sijia is greeting his parents very obediently, and seems to have changed no more than before, so Gu Yu thinks he is overthinking it.

The two families met to discuss the marriage between You Sijia and Gu Yu. However, You Sijia suddenly "rejected" the marriage at home at noon. Not long after, when Gu's parents wanted to discuss the marriage between the two families' children, You's father subtly changed the subject, and the atmosphere at the dinner table suddenly became a bit strange.

Yu Kuiqing was already used to it. She sat at the dinner table, listening to the back and forth between the two sets of parents. As for one of the parties involved, he was taking small sips of his drink next to her, but at a fairly high frequency, and his movements still looked elegant.

Yu Kuiqing rested her chin on her hand, feeling that Yu Sijia seemed to be eating a lot today.

Qian Shanjing finally couldn't sit still any longer; she understood what the You family meant.

Yusaide didn't want Yusjia to marry into their Gu family.

Is Yusaid still considering the Meng family? That's not hard to understand, since bankers tend to prefer industrialists.

"Jiajia." Qian Shanjing smiled as she looked at You Sijia, who was still engrossed in drinking her soup not far away. She had watched You Sijia grow up since she was a child; she was well-behaved and beautiful. Although she was a bit spoiled, what girl isn't? She had long since decided that You Sijia would be her daughter-in-law. "Didn't you always say you wanted to marry your brother Gu Yu when you were little? Now that your brother Gu Yu is back, he just returned from abroad. Nancheng has changed quite a bit over the years. You should spend more time with him."

Qian Shanjing still believes that tonight's decision came from the Yousaide couple, and now she wants to start with Yousijia.

Yu Sijia looked up, her eyes filled with a natural bewilderment and helplessness. "Ah? Isn't this inappropriate?" Yu Sijia bit her lip, her delicate and coquettish manner making it seem as if anything she said could be forgiven. "Aunt Qian, Gu Yu has a girlfriend. I have to avoid suspicion."

After saying this, Yu Sijia ignored the sudden silence that filled the private room and even turned to look at Gu Yu with a slight smile.

She later learned that when Gu Yu returned to China, he still had lingering feelings for Tang Yayi.

How could she possibly still be that obedient fool now?
Whether Qian Shanjing likes her too much and wants her as her daughter-in-law, or whether she can use her to make Gu Yu and Tang Yayi completely impossible, is still hard to say.

Yuska didn't want to be used as a pawn again unintentionally.
