See the Law of Deception
Chapter 65 Wang's Funeral Home
Chapter 65 Wang's Funeral Home (5)
After entering the elevator, the two of them fell silent.
Lu Jinzhao didn't have anything to say, while Xiao Ping was simply nervous.
He kept glancing up at the lights, then nervously staring at the elevator indicator lights, then looking down at the operating bed beside him, afraid that something might be wrong.
Fortunately, perhaps because the mission had just begun, or perhaps because they had not yet violated any taboos, at least the elevator was not malfunctioning.
We made it to the basement without incident. The temperature here was quite low, but thankfully it was still within a tolerable range.
Connecting to the elevator entrance is a long corridor. The elevator is on the far left of the corridor, and the morgue is accessed by walking along this corridor.
"Who designed this?" Xiao Ping couldn't help but complain.
If you encounter something in the morgue and want to escape, there's only this straight corridor, with no cover and nowhere to hide.
So unfriendly!
Moreover, such places always make people feel a little uncomfortable. The narrow corridor, the limited height, the white walls, and the fact that it is in a basement make people feel an indescribable sense of confinement just by standing here.
Xiao Ping just wanted to get the body inside as soon as possible and leave.
When he turned to look at his partner, under the stark white light, his gaze fell on Lu Jinzhao's pale skin and dark eyes. A chill ran down his spine, and he almost thought he was seeing a ghost.
My brain worked for a second before I realized, wait, this is my companion, not a ghost.
He hesitated for a moment, but still didn't say something like, "Xiao Lu, why don't you put on some simple makeup next time to give your face a better complexion before getting on the train?"
So rude.
Pushing the trolley, he began to worry again: what would he do on the night shift?
If the power goes out when you're under a lot of stress, and Lu Jinzhao is still quietly following behind, turning around and seeing her without warning would be like seeing a ghost.
The wheels of the moving cart scraped across the ground, and the sound of the rolling wheels echoed in the quiet underground corridor along with the footsteps of the two people. Xiao Ping was only grateful that the lights above his head did not flicker.
After pushing the cart for about two minutes, the two arrived at the entrance of the morgue.
The main problem is that the trolley is too slow. He calculated that if he ran, it would only take about 15 seconds to get from the morgue entrance to the elevator and stairs.
As he pondered this, Xiao Ping couldn't help but turn around to look behind him and then at his companions.
It's so quiet.
Xiao Ping really hoped that Lu Jinzhao could speak up and say something, anything at all. At least with another person's voice, the atmosphere wouldn't be so tense and oppressive.
But Lu Jinzhao clearly did not receive his brainwaves.
She was completely unaware of how nervous her teammates were at that moment.
After all, in Lu Jinzhao's eyes, the journey had been relatively peaceful, and there had been no ominous changes in the surroundings. The body on the transport vehicle was lying peacefully, showing no signs of coming back to life.
Although the environment made her wary, it was far from the point of causing her to have anxious and wild thoughts.
Having completed three platform missions, remaining calm and rational in such situations is quite simple for her.
In the quiet atmosphere, the transport vehicle arrived at the entrance of the morgue.
"We've arrived," Xiao Ping couldn't help but say.
There were no security guards stationed in the morgue, and a key was required to open the door, which both of them carried.
Insert the key, turn it, and then twist the door handle.
The heavy metal door was slowly pushed open, and cold air seeped out through the cracks, quickly enveloping the two people.
This time, Xiao Ping and Lu Jinzhao clearly felt that this temperature was absolutely unsuitable for normal humans to be in contact with for a long time.
Lu Jinzhao felt a bit doubtful. Logically speaking, the morgue should be cold, but not this cold. After all, there was a refrigerator inside, and that should be the temperature there, right?
Is there an air leak? For example, is a refrigerator not properly closed?
The door was fully opened, and the layout of the morgue came into view.
It looked quite ordinary, not much different from the morgues seen in movies.
There may be more refrigerated cabinets, which is understandable considering that this is a large funeral home.
Xiao Ping was still looking for an empty refrigerator based on what the young man had said, while Lu Jinzhao had already left the spot, his eyes darting between the refrigerators, seemingly looking for something else.
"What's wrong?" Xiao Ping turned his head and saw her appearance, and couldn't help but ask.
Lu Jinzhao did not reply immediately, but walked deeper into the morgue and spent some time touring the entire space.
Xiao Ping was a little nervous and followed slowly behind her. Lu Jinzhao didn't reply, so he could only guess wildly, worrying that she might have discovered something bad.
When Lu Jinzhao walked to a row of refrigerated display cases, she suddenly stopped.
“There.” She pointed.
Xiao Ping followed her finger and looked over. The next second, he felt his body stiffen.
Then, a refrigerator was opened, the body drawer was pulled out, but the body that was lying on it was nowhere to be seen.
Xiao Ping felt a chill run down his spine, unsure whether it was from the cold or a physiological reaction to the scene before him.
"Could it be that the previous staff member forgot to turn it off?"
is it?
"What about these?" She looked at the ground again.
Below the morgue drawer, there was a trail of footprints leading towards the entrance of the morgue!
Although it's not very clear, it's still discernible.
Xiao Ping's face turned ashen; he knew he could no longer deceive himself.
".what to do?"
He was asking Lu Jinzhao, but he was also asking himself. As he spoke, Xiao Ping's mind raced, trying to find a feasible solution.
Lu Jinzhao shook his head: "There's nothing we can do."
The footprints pointed out of the morgue, meaning that if what she thought was true, a body had once opened the freezer, walked out, and left the morgue.
So where is it now?
What is it going to do?
No one knows.
"Let's finish what we're doing first."
For their own sake, the most important thing now is to quickly put the newly arrived body into the refrigerator and close it.
"What if it's still here?"
As soon as Xiao Ping spoke, goosebumps rose on his arms from his own words.
He didn't understand why Lu Jinzhao could be so calm, and even continue "working".
He looked around suspiciously, as if the "resurrected" corpse was really hiding nearby, waiting for them. If they weren't careful, or even in the blink of an eye, a rotting corpse would appear in front of them.
