Chapter 2 The Tiger Cubs Wept with Greed
The little girl, wearing a one-shoulder animal skin dress, skipped over to Ling Chengen, took a bite of a bright red fruit with both hands, tilted her head, and said, "Big sister, the fish you grilled is awful. Can't we just eat it raw?"

"No, I want grilled fish."

Ling Chengen sat cross-legged by the fire, holding a stick to control the heat, lest the two large, fat fish be licked burnt by the flames.

"Then I won't eat it for a while, okay? You can't force me to eat that dark stuff." Xiao Xi sat down next to her and soon started sweating from the heat of the fire, but she still didn't leave Ling Chengen's side.

"Do you have salt?" Ling Chengen asked, turning his head.

Xiao Xi finished the fruit in a few bites, nodded and said, "We have salt at home, I'll go get it."

Xiao Xi ran very fast, and in no time she came back carrying a piece of salt as big as her head, and put it on the ground with a thud.

Ling Chengen stared at the pale yellow rock salt on the ground, lost in thought. How did the people of the Beast World ingest salt?
Xiao Xi licked the salty taste off her hands and looked at her older sister, who was staring blankly again: "I've brought the salt stones over. Do you need anything else, sister?"

Do you have a pot or pan at home?

Ling Chengen no longer expected that there would be refined salt at home; she planned to make it herself.

It's just purifying salt, very simple.

"What is a pot?" Xiao Xi asked curiously.

Ling Chengen said with a blank face, "Pretend I didn't ask anything. You take the salt stones back first, and I'll handle them yourself when I come back at noon."

This time, Xiao Xi refused to run errands and turned to walk towards the water: "I'm not going. You carry the salt stones back into the cave later, I'm going to wash my hands~"

Ling Chengen gritted his teeth and said, "Then don't eat the fish I grill later!"

"Fine, I won't eat it! It looks and tastes awful, I'm not going to eat it!"

Ling Chengen looked at the grilled fish on the stick, its skin already curled up.

Very good, the child has great backbone!

She'll make this little brat drool with envy in a moment.

Once the aroma of the charred fish filled the air, Ling Chengen nodded in satisfaction, rubbed his rumbling stomach, got up and plucked a few broad leaves from the edge of the woods in the distance. After washing them clean by the water, he returned to the campfire.

Beside the campfire, two people, one big and one small, squatted on the rocky beach, staring longingly at the large, charred fish on the stick. Upon hearing footsteps, they immediately looked up and gazed longingly at Ling Chengen as he returned.

"Mmm, the fish smells so good!" Tiger Dad Ling Xiao smiled and pointed to the large grilled fish. "Father, can I have one?"

Xiao Xi jumped up on the spot, hugged Ling Chengen's leg, and said pitifully, "Big sister, I was wrong. I just carried the salt back. Can I have some?"

Ling Chengen placed the clean leaves on the rocky beach and stretched out his hand to Ling Xiao: "Father, can I use the bone knife for a moment?"

When Xiao Xi saw that she didn't refuse, she immediately jumped up happily, waving her arms and legs and saying, "Big sister, big sister, you're the best!"

Ling Chengen took a piece of the grilled fish with fewer bones, held the fish meat on the leaf in one hand, looked at Xiao Xi whose eyes were almost glued to the fish meat, raised his eyebrows and said smugly: "If you want to eat fish, you can, but praise me a few more times, and I'll give it to you if I'm satisfied."

Xiao Xi's smile vanished, and she stared blankly at Ling Chengen's wicked grin: "Big sister... I want to eat! You're the best! The very best."

Ling Xiao looked at the two remaining fish on the broad leaf and pointed to the one on the left: "Is this mine?"

"Yes, Father, you should eat first."

Ling Chengen had no objection to the original owner's father; in fact, he liked him very much.

Ling Xiao was a truly good father. After his only wife died of illness, he moved out with his two daughters.

One animal acts as both father and mother, not only hunting and storing food but also protecting its two cubs, keeping it as busy as a spinning top.

Aside from not being very good at taking care of cubs, he was truly a perfect male beastman. After playing with the child, Ling Chengen shared the fish with the thin, small cat-eared girl.

He squatted down by the fire, burying his head and quickly showing off the fish that had no saltiness at all.

Fortunately, it's a stream fish, so it's well-fed and has extremely delicious meat.

It made up for the lack of seasoning.

Ling Xiao quickly finished the entire fish, leaving not even the bones. He patted his stomach, looked at the now-extinguished fire, and said, "Shall we have grilled fish again tonight?"

"Father, is a grilled fish enough to fill you up?" Ling Chengen asked.

Ling Xiao shook his head. One fish certainly wouldn't be enough to fill him up, but it was delicious.

"Can you bake more tonight?"

He looked at his eldest daughter, who had finally regained her vitality, and a hint of relief appeared in his eyes.

Previously, Enen had been trying every trick in the book to get the most handsome male beastman in the Cold Mountain tribe. Not only did she fail to hold his hand, but she also fell off the mountain path. The shaman changed her dressing, and she slept for several days before finally waking up.

He was worried that the silly child would run back to the Cold Mountain tribe after waking up, so taking advantage of the tribe's great victory, he simply picked out a few of the best and most handsome men from the defeated orc tribes to be his eldest daughter's beast husbands.

He is the leader of the Shilin tribe, and Enen is his eldest daughter. He just likes pretty girls, and he can have as many as he wants.

Ling Chengen had no objection, of course, and she wasn't full either.

Actually, the two fish she caught weighed no less than ten pounds each, but perhaps because she had become a tiger-kin beastman, her appetite had increased.

Ling Xiao took out a few bright red fruits from the animal skin bundle beside him and handed them to Ling Chengen: "Eat some of these to fill your stomach. Father will be going hunting soon, so let's eat more tonight."

"Remember to go to the neighboring tribes and bring back your beastmen! We didn't ask for any prey, but specifically requested these beastmen, so we can't let them get away."

Ling Xiao had no psychological qualms about forcibly taking male orcs from other tribes; on the contrary, he was quite pleased with himself.

Ling Chengen was now seriously considering the matter of beastmen husbands. She stroked her chin and turned to ask, "Do we really have to bring these beastmen back? What can they do? They might not know how to hunt, and you'll have to support the whole family all by yourself, Father."

Ling Xiao said smugly, "Does Father have such poor taste? Of course I chose the best. You'll see for yourself. You're all grown up now, you should have a few beast mates by now. In a few years, you can have a few cubs, and then our family's life will get better and better."

Ling Chengen looked at his father, who was envisioning the future: "..."

I don't know where you get this confidence from.
Getting involved with men, hmm... she's currently celibate and has no such thoughts.

But she can build a team and cultivate subordinates...

They're just a few beastmen; once trained, they can be a squad of soldiers.

Ling Chengen suddenly stood up and grabbed Xiao Xi, who was squatting beside him: "Come on, let's go collect our spoils!"

Xiao Xi struggled to say, "I still need to catch fish, and I need to pick fruit later..."

"I picked them on the way back. There's no rush to catch fish; we'll catch more later."

She didn't know the way. Without Xiao Xi to guide her, she wouldn't be able to tell which tribe was where once she left the forest.

Ling Chengen helped Xiao Xi wash her hands and quickly ran out of the woods.

The wind whistled in her ears as she walked through the mountains, her long hair flying high behind her.

At this moment, she felt incredibly free and joyful.
