Chapter 24 Family Meeting
The witch doctor, whose powers were completely exhausted, now had a hunched back, and his eyebrows, beard, and hair had lost their luster.

After thanking the witch doctor, Ling Xiao arranged for someone to send the old witch doctor back first. Ling Chengen then instructed Wu Zhuo to go with him and to send over a pot of the pork rib soup she had stewed earlier.

Wu Zhuo quietly carried the stone pot and followed the departing clansmen into the village.

Walking beside him was Lei Sang, a warrior from the hunting party, whose beast form was a silver-horned night owl. He held a weapon in his hand and carried the day's assigned prey on his shoulder. He tilted his head and looked at Wu Zhuo's cautious appearance, his nostrils twitching twice. He leaned forward and asked, "What are you carrying? It smells so good."

"This is the Lake-Singing Beast Rib Soup that the young clan chief asked me to deliver to the shaman." Wu Zhuo said proudly, "I drank two big bowls of it at noon today. If it weren't for the fact that Lake-Singing Beasts are so hard to catch, and Sister En said that some should be left for others to try, I could have finished the whole pot."

Lei Sang reached out to touch the wooden lid on top of the stone pot. Wu Zhuo wanted to dodge but was afraid of spilling it, so he could only say gruffly, "Don't be so naughty. The lid has to be on, otherwise the soup won't taste good when it gets cold."

Lei Sang was startled by the steam rising from the stone pot and quickly withdrew his hand, but he was soon drawn to the increasingly domineering aroma and paid no attention to what Wu Zhuo was saying.

"How about I try some? I've never had such delicious meat soup before." Lei Sang raised his eyes to test Wu Zhuo's bottom line.

Wu Zhuo grinned and said, "Hurry up and put the lid on. This is for the witch doctor. He's so old, and he used up all his supernatural power treating Sister En's beast husband. How can you have the nerve to take this pot of soup from him?"

"Even if I gave you a whole pot, it would only be enough to fill a tooth gap."

Lei Sang was a little disappointed. He slowly put the lid back on and followed Wu Zhuo toward the shaman's house. As they walked, he pleaded, "Then tomorrow, could you ask the young clan leader if I could exchange a piece of meat for a pot of meat soup? I want to get some to take back to my family's females and cubs to try."

Looking at his pleading expression, Wu Zhuo couldn't bring herself to refuse. She simply said, "I can put in a good word for you, but Sister En might not have the time. You know her family's situation; they have to raise three males who can't hunt and eat a lot..."

"I know that. I'll just give them more meat then. We've had a lot of meat distributed recently, and it'll just go bad if we don't eat it. We can exchange it for this fragrant meat soup. That's perfect."

Wu Zhuo walked quickly toward the shaman's cave. After watching the orcs in the tribe put the shaman down from their backs, a few orcs helped tidy up the old shaman's house and then left.

The old witch doctor sat on a rock at the cave entrance with droopy eyelids. Wu Zhuo placed the stone pot in front of him, lifted the wooden lid, and looked up, saying, "Grandpa witch doctor, this is meat soup that Sister En asked me to bring you. Would you like some?"

The old witch doctor was actually very tired. He had originally wanted to refuse Wu Zhuo's offer, but when he opened his eyes and saw the steaming meat soup in front of him, he was stunned for a few seconds, and his fingers on his knees trembled slightly.

"Did the young clan leader make this?"

"Hmm." Wu Zhuo took a wooden spoon from the small pocket at his waist, handed it to the witch doctor, and smiled so broadly that his eyes disappeared. "It tastes great, you should try it."

"Although Sister En failed to win back the young chief of the Hanshan tribe, the skills she honed during her pursuit of her husband are truly exceptional."

The old witch doctor tapped Wu Zhuo on the head with his cane in his left hand and said seriously, "How can you tease the young clan leader like that? She is the warrior who will lead our Stone Forest to the peak in the future. We must maintain a sense of awe."

Wu Zhuo rubbed his forehead, but didn't argue with the old witch doctor.

He turned his head and glanced at a wooden plank placed not far away. He picked it up and placed it under the stone pot so that the old witch doctor could put the stone pot on his lap and slowly enjoy the meat soup inside.

The witch doctor, with drooping eyelids, scooped up a spoonful of soup and put it in his mouth.

It was only much later that he said with tears in his eyes, "It's been so long since I've had such delicious meat soup."

Wu Zhuo squatted down in front of him and asked in confusion, "Grandpa Witch Doctor, have you eaten this before?" "I ate it when I was in the Southern Beast Plains."

The shaman was unwilling to talk too much about the Southern Beast Plains, and just kept his head down, slowly drinking his soup, occasionally eating a piece of Lake Howling Beast meat that tasted particularly good.

Watching him eat, Wu Zhuo's mouth watered with envy.

Seeing that the task was completed, he stood up and said, "Then, Grandpa Witch Doctor, I'll be going now. I'll come back tomorrow to get the stone pot. Enjoy your meal."

When Wu Zhuo returned to Ling Chengen's house, he found that the Snow Wolf Clan Chief, who looked like a blood gourd, had already been dealt with.

Yu Shaochen pressed the blood-soaked animal skin skirt against the stream to soak, then took out the skirt from his bag and helped Su Weihua, who had been cleaned, put it on. He then sat by the fire, looking somewhat bewildered at the silent family.

Ling Xiao, his thick brows furrowed, glanced at Su Weihua every now and then, and spoke first: "Yes, yes, this time it's Father's fault."

Ling Chengen handed a bamboo tube of water to Ling Xiao and said calmly, "What's wrong with that? I also brought back the half-dead Chongzhen without saying anything."

Half-dead Chongzhen: "..." Did you and your daughter put poison on your mouths?!
Ling Chengen glanced at Su Weihua, whose body was still twitching from time to time even though she was unconscious, and sat down on the ground. He said calmly, "Since things have come to this, there is no need to talk about self-reflection."

"The current issue is not whether or not to bring the people back, but how to solve the problem of feeding the family and treating the wounded."

Ling Xiao nodded in agreement, saying, "There's no need to worry too much about that for now. I'll go to the Snow Wolf Tribe again tomorrow and make them hand over more prey as compensation! Since they dared to injure the people we wanted like this in retaliation, we don't need to be polite to them anymore!"

Chongzhen was brewing medicine for Su Weihua, then looked up at Ling Chengen and said, "The snow wolf is cunning and probably already has a way to deal with it. The agreement you made with the four tribes to surrender and hand over the prey had loopholes."

Ling Xiao looked up at Chong Zhen.

Chongzhen, however, calmly explained, "Due to the difference in combat strength between the Wuyang and Yaoluo tribes, we are unable to deliver all the prey at once in the short term. Therefore, our two tribes will deliver it in batches."

“But the Snow Wolf tribe has a lot of orc warriors. They can bring out the amount of prey you set at once, if they want. In that case, you won’t be able to eat all the prey in a short time, and it will spoil.”

Ling Xiao also realized that at the time, they and the Snow Wolf Tribe had not agreed on whether the delivery would be made in one lump sum or in installments at regular intervals...

Chongzhen's analysis makes a lot of sense; the current chieftain of the Snow Wolf tribe has a really bad personality.

To vent his anger, he made Shi Lin take all the prey but be unable to digest it in a short time, leaving him helpless to watch the prey rot – something he was definitely capable of doing.

"Then what should we do?" Ling Xiao was a little surprised that Chong Zhen was willing to take the initiative to speak, so he asked tentatively.

Chongzhen turned to look at Ling Chengen and said meaningfully, "I've discussed this matter with my wife. What are your plans, my wife?"

Ling Chengen stared intently into his fox-like eyes, and after a long while, said coldly, "I'll go to the Hanshan tribe tomorrow to talk to Bai Qingyu."

Ling Xiao stared at them, completely bewildered: "???"

No, they were just talking about how to deal with an overabundance of prey, how did it suddenly turn into talking about the young chieftain of the Cold Mountain tribe? He finally managed to pull his eldest daughter out of this fire pit, and now he's going to jump back in?
