Chapter 1 The Headless Baby

Chapter 1 The Headless Baby

The startled mouse scurried into the corner. The stained-glass window shone with blinding sunlight, and withered vines stretched in from outside, spreading across the floor like hideous scars.

A boy in a black suit sat on the ground with a large gash torn open on his neck, blood gushing out.

His eyes were already starting to glaze over, but he still tried his best to keep them open, looking pleadingly at Han Su standing in front of him.

Han Su was the same age as him, a ten-year-old boy, but his face showed a maturity and determination that was different from others. This was probably why all the kidnapped children were willing to believe him and follow him on his risky escape.

The surroundings were very quiet. The girl with a slightly taller ponytail, wearing a birthday crown and a little dress, and the skinny boy, the one in the tuxedo, and the one with the bowl cut following behind, didn't dare to make a sound. The little boy's appearance frightened them, and their eyes were filled with tears.

Behind me, a watchful gaze seemed to be watching. It was the row of exquisite wooden puppet girls in the glass case, who remained obediently inside, seemingly unconcerned.

Han Su looked at the little boy who was barely clinging to life, slowly squatted down, took his hand, pried open his fingers, and took away the weapon he was still tightly holding.

It was a steel blade wrapped in cloth, with its tip sharpened to be extremely sharp.

Seeing the boy's eyes suddenly turn to despair, Han Su calmly told him, "You can't get out of here. This thing is useless to you. Just lend it to me!"

"But you did very well this time, I'll remember that!"

"..."

If it weren't for this boy, they probably would have been caught by that fast-moving half-woman when they were on the third floor.

It's a pity he won't live any longer; saying anything else now would be a waste of time.

Standing up, without waiting for the little boy on the ground to close his eyes, Han Su turned to the others and said, "Do as we said before. He's dead, but the others still need to figure out how to escape!"

"Let's light the fire first."

"..."

The doll next to her, wearing a birthday crown, immediately nodded obediently, even with tears still on her face. She took out a small folding toy from the delicate little pocket of her dress, and when unfolded, a small magnifying glass appeared.

She aimed at the sunlight streaming through the window, and then shone a bright spot onto her most beloved card, which she always carried with her.

It says "Mom and Dad love you" on it.

On the card, the bright spots turned into black dots, and the black dots started to smoke, with faint flames beginning to appear.

Han Su stared intently until the flames appeared, then suddenly looked at the girl with the ponytail beside him and said, "Lock up the glass cabinet and don't let them out."

"they?"

The girl with the ponytail immediately turned around and glanced at the glass window. All she saw was a row of old, strangely shaped toy dolls, their eyes fixed on the glass.

But she didn't ask any more questions, and immediately stepped forward and grabbed the two handles of the glass cabinet.

Only then, seeing that the flame had taken shape, did Han Su carefully and nervously take it from the doll's hand, and then without hesitation, light it on the heavy purple curtains.

He had done it many times before, and his movements were skilled and fluid.

The fire suddenly flared up along the curtains, like a greedy snake slithering through the room, quickly billowing up thick smoke.

The puppets inside the cabinet looked as if they were being roasted by high temperatures, their realistic materials and skirts becoming charred and twisted.

The fake smiles on the faces became distorted and bizarre in the air, which was also distorted by the high temperature. Suddenly, a vicious curse rang out from the shop window. The puppets stopped pretending and began to struggle inside the cabinet.

The plastic arms, segment by segment, were forcefully pounding on the glass window.

The girl with the ponytail was so frightened that her face turned pale. She instinctively wanted to run away, but then she remembered the others and mustered up her courage. She reached out and grabbed the glass window. The girl in the tuxedo and the boy with the bowl cut next to her also realized what was happening and stepped forward to hold the trembling glass cabinet back.

But the puppets' screams seemed to have alerted something, and muffled breathing could be heard in the corridor outside.

"Whoosh" "Whoosh"

With a creaking sound as the floor was being squeezed, it seemed as if some enormous creature was slowly moving toward the room where they were.

Inside the house, everyone was trembling with fear and completely at a loss.

But at this moment, Han Su shouted, "Keep an eye on the glass cabinet. When I get the key, run after it. We'll definitely be able to leave!"

"..."

"..."

Those who were able to escape here with him were all carefully selected by him. Although they were young and panicked, they still endured it, closed their eyes, and desperately blocked the glass window behind them.

The puppet in the glass case was scorched even more by the fire burning down from above, and it desperately hammered at the glass. Some of the glass was broken, and plastic arms stretched out, scratching several bloody marks on the ponytail's arm.

The ponytail was in so much pain that tears were about to stream down her face, but she stubbornly refused to let go.

But the puppet's screams, the spreading fire, and the billowing black smoke terrified them, their hearts felt as if gripped by icy hands, and their little faces turned deathly pale.

They could only look at Han Su, their only pillar of support, only to see that Han Su had already gone to the door and squatted down, covering his mouth and nose.

I silently counted in my mind, ignoring the noise in the room.

Heavy footsteps echoed in the hallway outside, and the floorboards creaked under the weight.

A strong, putrid stench filled Han Su's nostrils. He gripped the sharp piece of iron tightly, his eyes narrowing like an adult's.

The footsteps stopped at the door, and the red lacquered wooden door was slowly pushed open. A white monster squeezed in; it was unusually large and almost filled the entire field of vision.

Judging from his silhouette, he appears to be a man. He is at least two meters tall, with bulky legs.

His face was not visible from behind, but his exposed neck and skin were.

They were all deathly pale. Moreover, they had been soaked in water for more than ten days, and were strangely swollen like giants. Their black trench coats and coarse cloth work pants were torn to shreds, with only a brass-colored antique key attached to their belts.

Han Su suppressed the discomfort he felt every time he saw this monster, and stared intently at the hole in the trench coat on its back.

It's not time yet.

Wait until he takes a few more steps forward and gets closer to the closet.

"Hehe..."

The white-skinned monster had poor eyesight. It took him a few meters to see the flames spreading inside the house before he could see them clearly. He immediately became anxious, pulled hard on his heavy legs, and crawled into the burning room.

Amidst the billowing smoke, it couldn't even make out the children trembling in front of the glass cases.

Even the wooden dolls in the glass case suddenly quieted down when the monster appeared, shrinking into the case and letting the flames rage.

This monster seemed more terrifying than fire.

But at that moment, Han Su rushed out, gripping the steel sheet.

Not yet ten years old, he used his feet to push off the wall for leverage, his thin body like a little leopard, flying towards the bloated monster.

Every step was calculated, including timing, posture, and landing point.

He gripped the metal sheet tightly with both hands and plunged it hard into the man's back, into the eye-shaped hole in his trench coat.

This corresponds to the location of his heart.

"puff!"

The metal piece pierced the monster's back precisely, but it was too short and the monster wasn't strong enough, so it only went in six or seven centimeters.

The pale monster cried out in pain and suddenly sat up, its body as bloated as a giant elephant, and its strength as great as a giant elephant. Han Su, who was lying on its back, was immediately knocked away.

His back slammed against the closet, and his bones felt like they were about to crack, but he endured it without uttering a sound. His body suddenly slid down and he sat on the ground.

The next moment, the monster's body slammed violently into the closet.

The impact caused the metal plate that had been protruding from his back to embed itself even deeper into his body.

By sliding down his body in advance, Han Su avoided being squeezed between him and the closet. Instead, he took the opportunity to grab a brass key from the white-skinned monster's waist, then ducked down and crawled out from between the monster's legs, rushing towards the door of the room.

At the same time, he shouted, "Run!"

Inside the room, all the children jumped up and ran off like a group of frightened little mice, following behind him.

But the ponytail was too close to the glass display case. When she tried to run away, a plastic hand suddenly reached out from inside the glass case, grabbed her ponytail, and pulled her head back.

A pile of wooden dolls behind her, no longer able to hide her, crawled out of the glass case and, in the blink of an eye, completely submerged her.

Her terrified screams echoed through the flames, but no one dared to turn back; they simply rushed toward the door.

But no one expected that the monster, whose heart was pierced by a piece of iron and whose movements were already somewhat sluggish, would suddenly get up again, angrily waving its two fat, bloated arms and grabbing wildly to the side.

The bowl cut and tuxedo that were rushing past him were grabbed by it and slammed to the side.

The bowl-cut man's head hit the cabinet, and his neck twisted strangely for a moment, losing its elasticity like a rubber band, and his head shook up and down like a rattle drum.

The tuxedo was gripped by his five fingers, which dug into the flesh, breaking the bones, and blood mixed with fragments spurted from his mouth.

Instead, the doll and the skinny monkey, who were slower than the two of them, ran past the monster and rushed towards the door.

They were in a hurry to catch up with Han Su. The monster behind them was so terrifying, but Han Su, who was running ahead, also frightened them. They were afraid of being left behind by this crazed monster.

But Han Su, who was closest to the door, suddenly remembered something just as he was about to rush out and shouted, "Stop, stop!"

He shouted so loudly, but the skinny monkey couldn't control himself and rushed towards the door.

Just then, a heavy gust of wind swept over them, and a dusty piano flew over their heads and slammed solidly against the door.

Along with the skinny monkey who had just run to the door, the clever little boy was smashed into a bloody mess just because he was a step faster.

Han Su's heart clenched violently, but he gritted his teeth, jumped up, landed on the piano by the door, then turned around, grabbed the arm of the doll who had just run there, pulled her over the piano, and rushed into the dark corridor outside.

"The door, the door should be appearing..."

He gripped the key tightly in his hand, silently chanting to himself, and then looked up.

A bizarre scene unfolded. At the end of the dark corridor ahead, things suddenly distorted, as if something had squeezed in. After a moment of blurring, a door marked "EXIT" appeared in front of them.

The style and design of this door are very different from those of the castle; it's as if two different styles have been forcibly pieced together at this moment.

Han Su was overjoyed. He dragged the doll in one hand and gripped the brass key he had snatched from the monster in the other, rushing straight toward the iron gate.

Behind them, the monster stumbled and rushed to the doorway, only to be stopped by the piano it had thrown to the side of the door.

Its body was too heavy to leap over the piano; it could only roar angrily and tear the piano in its path to pieces.

Taking advantage of this moment, Han Su practically dragged the young doll towards the iron gate. Her fair knees were already scraped and bleeding.

But she remained silent, knowing that she was trying to escape.

The brass key in his hand was ripped from the monster; it was icy cold and covered in some strange slime. This slime gave the key its own mind, and taking advantage of Han Su's unpreparedness, it suddenly became slippery and slipped out of Han Su's hand.

With a clatter, the key fell to the ground.

Han Su had never experienced anything like this before, and he broke out in a cold sweat. He tried to bend down to pick it up, but the monster had already rushed into the corridor.

"elder brother!"

A crisp cry suddenly rang out. The doll that Han Su was dragging saw the key slip and reacted quickly, grabbing the key that had just fallen to the ground and hurriedly handing it to Han Su.

At this moment, she even had a happy smile on her face, as if she felt that she was finally no longer a burden.

I was able to help.

"I……"

Han Su grabbed the key and, without even turning his head, inserted it into the lock with his back to the key, relying on the familiar feel of it.

At that moment, he felt a surge of gratitude towards the youngest, most obedient, and intelligent doll who could always be of help in crucial moments.

But at that moment, the doll's delicate little face suddenly exploded in front of him.

That ingratiating smile was still lingering in Han Su's mind, but his head had already split open.

Han Su's face was splattered with blood. His gaze pierced through the blood and saw the monster by the door. It had just rushed out of the room, but its enormous body could not catch up. So, it melted away.

Flesh and blood flooded the corridor like a flowing river, rapidly approaching, and one could even see its melting face, as well as its arms and flesh.

It was an arm shrouded in slime that swung over, smashing the doll's head. Sharp nails even grazed Han Su's right eye, leaving a cold mark.

My eyes didn't hurt, but they felt like they were leaking air. Two seconds later, a sticky liquid flowed all over my face.

But Han Su was too preoccupied to care about any of that. He simply stared at the little girl who was still holding his hand, her uninjured eye.

Behind them, the iron gate had been opened, and blinding light shone in from the outside.

In the corridor, surging monster flesh and blood crashed against him like waves. Han Su slowly released the little girl's hand, letting her small body fall, while he also took a step back.

With his feet dangling in the air, he was in free fall.

Before me lay a raging mass of flesh and blood on the other side of the door, while overhead, a blinding ray of white sunlight shone.

"call……"

Han Su suddenly woke up, panting heavily.

As he straightened up, he realized he was in a university classroom, his arms aching and numb from being used as a pillow, and his sleeves damp with his own sweat.

The classmate next to him turned around with a grin and said, "Well done, Han Su, you actually dared to sleep in the abbess's class? What, have you finally figured it out and decided to wallow in the decadence of us rich people?"

"..."

It took Han Su a while to calm down before he realized that he had escaped back.

This time, he escaped back alone again.

I glanced at the digital watch on my wrist. It was 4:52 PM. Time was still ticking away, as if nothing had happened.

He sat there for a while, processing the emotional shock and the new fragments of memory, before slowly looking at his best friend Xu Ji beside him: "Lend me the mirror for a moment."

Xu Ji's expression immediately changed, and he said, "Don't talk nonsense. I don't wear makeup, so how could I have a mirror?"

As he spoke, he glanced around, pulled a mirror from his small bag, and handed it to me, saying in a low voice, "It's my girlfriend's; I left it here."

Han Su opened the mirror and saw his nineteen-year-old face.

He was fair-skinned and pale, and could have been considered handsome, but a gruesome needle mark scar that stretched from his right eye to his hairline made him look somewhat frightening.

Not only this scar, but even his right eye had turned a faint grayish-white, carrying an ugly and ferocious meaning, just like himself, a defeated dog.

"What, are you going to complain about this scar again?"

Seeing Han Su examining the scar, Xu Ji laughed and said, "You've earned quite a bit of money working, why don't you get scar removal surgery?"

If it's not enough, I'll lend you some.

Han Su did not respond to his words, but stared blankly at himself in the mirror, thinking to himself: Maybe if his hand hadn't slipped, everything would have been fine, maybe the two of them would have escaped.
"Han Su, someone is looking for you."

Just as I finished packing my things and was about to come out, I heard a classmate I knew calling me from outside.

Han Su turned his head and saw a man and a woman standing outside the lecture hall.

The man was wearing a suit, the woman was wearing a white dress and had a delicate, round necklace around her neck, and the driver followed behind them carrying a bag.

They seemed to be of high status and from well-off families, but their faces were shrouded in the sorrow and dejection that had accumulated over the years.

"Holy crap, here we go again?"

Before Han Su could say anything, Xu Ji's expression changed: "It's been almost ten years..."

"Xiao Han, Xiao Han, here..."

But before Xu Ji could finish complaining, the couple saw Han Su and hurriedly squeezed through.

The woman's face wore a pitiful yet pleading expression as she begged, "Please, please, don't find us annoying..."

"Have you remembered anything lately?"

"We really meant no harm, and we didn't mean to bother you. Really, we just want to find Manman's whereabouts, even if it's just his remains..."

"..."

When the students nearby saw this, they all instinctively went around it.

As everyone knows, this college classmate, Han Su, was kidnapped once when he was a child.

Dozens of other children were also kidnapped at the same time, causing a huge uproar that mobilized detectives from across the city.

Unfortunately, in the end, only Han Su returned alive.

He told the police that he was trapped in a dilapidated castle, where other kidnapped children were also there, and that there were monsters in the building that had eaten the other children.

Upon hearing his words, the police department was on high alert and dispatched special forces and a large number of police officers to search the area, but they did not find the castle or any monsters.

Everyone assumed that Han Su was just too frightened and was talking nonsense.

But that's the truth. All the children disappeared after that, and no one has seen them again or found any other clues.

So many years have passed, and many parents have given up hope and are left to grapple with their wounds alone. But some still come to Han Su hoping he can recall some useful clues, even if all he finds are their child's remains.

This couple is one of them.

Han Su expressed his understanding, after all, just a few minutes earlier, he had tried to escape with their daughter.

It's really cute.

He just accidentally lost his head.
