Industrial Cthulhu doesn't believe in the end times.
Chapter 1: Was He Really Reborn?
Chapter 1: Was He Really Reborn?
Beside a small garden in a coastal city.
"boom!"
Su Xun suddenly woke up with a start, and the bottle of mineral water in her hand fell to the ground.
Looking around, he stared in astonishment.
This is……
The area is surrounded by tall buildings, with throngs of pedestrians on the streets, and the sun shines brightly under a clear blue sky.
The garden behind us is in full bloom with the flowers of the season, and a gentle sea breeze blows from afar, with a few kites faintly visible floating in the sky.
Everything is fine.
Su Xun clearly remembered that his place of refuge was destroyed by a tenth-tier mutated beast, and the entire base was reduced to dust in a brutal battle.
What's going on here?
Su Xun looked down blankly and saw that he was wearing a blue uniform and that an electric scooter with an insulated box was parked next to him.
"This is...rebirth?"
"Am I reborn?"
The thought came to mind, and even Su Xun, who had experienced the apocalypse, found it hard to believe that this had happened in a short time. He stood up and looked around at everything.
Scenes unique to the civilized era came into view, all proving this miraculous fact. Su Xun reached out and touched the electric car parked beside him, as well as the bench, flower bed and even the trash can. The real touch kept impacting him.
"I've been reborn... I've really been reborn..."
A sophisticated urban woman in a white shirt and pencil skirt stopped at a distance, looked at the deliveryman who seemed mentally unstable, tugged at her companion's sleeve, and retreated the way she came.
"Shouldn't we call the police?"
"They didn't do anything wrong, mind your own business."
The sound of conversation drifted over from afar, jolting Su Xun awake from her reverie. She forced herself to calm down and searched her body thoroughly.
Finally, he found the somewhat worn-out phone on a nearby bench.
"May 15, 230?"
Su Xun was overjoyed. Not only had he been reborn, but he had been reborn a month before the apocalypse!
Yes, that's right, and it was at this time that I was still delivering food.
These distant memories seem to have been triggered, and one by one, things that had been sealed away for a long time, gradually reappeared in my mind.
One month later, the apocalypse arrived!
The spiritual energy revived, plants grew wildly, animals mutated, and countless secret realms opened up in the mountains and rivers. However, almost 99 percent of the world's eight billion people vanished overnight!
How many people turned into zombies? It's unclear. All we know is that the thriving human civilization almost perished completely. Fortunately, there were also superhumans who grew up through constant exploration and battles, protecting the few survivors.
However, this was only temporary. Several hundred years after the apocalypse, the few human bases that were barely surviving were forced to perish in the face of extremely powerful tenth-tier mutant beasts and zombie kings.
Su Xun was incredibly grateful that heaven had given him a second chance.
Now how to do?
Stockpiling supplies and building safe houses?
Only a fool would do that!
Having been reborn, Su Xun quickly set his goal without much thought.
Before the apocalypse, the country I lived in was the largest manufacturing power in human history, and was nicknamed the Industrial Cthulhu.
Even if we only loosen a tiny bit of the power of this behemoth, the future of ourselves—and indeed all of humanity—will be vastly different.
Or perhaps Su Xun wanted to stockpile supplies, envisioning a grain reserve group with enough resources to feed over a billion people for two years. Su Xun wanted to build safe houses, a strategic project the nation had been developing for decades but ultimately never had a chance to be implemented!
As for what to do, Su Xun already had a plan in mind.
Every survivor who survives long enough in the apocalypse will meet many other people. Wandering alone on the frontiers of civilization is extremely dangerous. Only by staying in a survivor base can one survive longer.
As a superhuman, Su Xun naturally has many connections in the future, many of whom held high positions before the apocalypse. Among them is someone he knows very well, and who is currently in this city.
Su Xun closed his eyes, trying hard to recall information about that person.
Incredibly, although his memories before the apocalypse were somewhat hazy, and he couldn't even quite remember his own phone password, his memories after the apocalypse, especially after Su Xun became a superhuman, remained clear.
This is very unreasonable. You have to know that Su Xun survived for hundreds of years in the apocalypse and eventually even completely lost his human form. The memory of a superhuman is far beyond what an ordinary human can compare to.
When needed, they... or rather, they can even use flesh and blood to simulate the effects of a supercomputer; Su Xun himself has done this before.
He could no longer possess such extraordinary abilities, but the vast memories he already had had solidified.
This is good news. Su Xun no longer tries to find the answer to this matter. After all, he has been reborn. What is there that he cannot understand?
He quickly remembered his friend's phone number, which he had obtained during a casual conversation.
Do you think people after the apocalypse never thought about being reborn before the apocalypse? The answer is no, of course they did, they dreamed about it all the time.
Some people even wrote books about it, which circulated within the base and were quite popular, becoming one of the few forms of entertainment at that time.
It was after reading that book that Su Xun started joking with his friends, sharing some amusing anecdotes that only they knew, and jokingly saying that if they were really reborn, they must keep in touch.
Su Xun never dreamed that these jokes would actually come in handy one day!
I hope that old man wasn't lying to me back then.
After a somewhat long wait, the call was connected, and an old but strong voice came through the receiver.
"Which one?"
Su Xun smiled. Hearing the somewhat familiar voice, he didn't rush to introduce himself, but instead said, "Grandpa Xu, you had a crush on your junior high class monitor back then, and you never dared to send the love letter you wrote, inside..."
"Stop, stop! Who are you? How do you know this?"
It seemed the old gentleman wasn't lying. Even though it was over the phone, Su Xun breathed a sigh of relief and then straightened his face, saying, "Grandpa, you don't know me yet, but I need to meet you."
"...You should know that not just anyone can see me directly. Although I don't know where you heard these old stories from, for security reasons..."
"Grandpa, I have some ideas about what you're currently researching regarding that thing, the one placed in the Binhai No. 6 experimental field..."
"Stop!" someone shouted on the other end of the phone, followed by chaos and confusion.
"Don't say it! Don't say it on the phone! Where are you? I'm coming right now!"
"No need, I know where you live. I'll come find you in a bit. Just have someone let me through when I get there."
"...Come to the research institute. My home doesn't have any security measures. You know where it is, right?"
"I understand. It will be about fifteen minutes. Could you please contact the security department in advance, Mr. Xu? I have something I'd like to discuss."
After hanging up the phone, Su Xun breathed a sigh of relief, then got up and got on the electric scooter.
I waited there for a while, not to contemplate life, but simply because I had forgotten how to ride an electric scooter.
It's a bit slow-paced, but not too slow; the first minor climax happens around chapter 10-15.
Thank you to every reader who has supported this book. Your continued reading is my greatest motivation for writing (I say this very sincerely).
Recently, the approval process has been extremely slow, so I've been behaving myself and trying to keep things under wraps. I hope everyone understands.
