Chapter 80 The Three Classics and Five Books, Twelve Supreme Methods

Ying Chan waited all day at Wendaozhai.

Until Yu Zhaochengxia, the last disciple left after asking his master about his doubts.

Finally, the young Taoist stepped forward and bowed, saying, "Senior brother, please follow me."

Ying Chan opened his eyes, stood up, calmly cupped his hands in greeting, and followed the young Taoist up to the second floor, arriving at a quiet room.

The room was simply furnished, with only two futons facing each other, separated by a small table, and incense burning in a burner.

The master closed his eyes and sat on one of the prayer cushions, facing the door.

Wei Yun said that the mentors of Xuancheng Mountain were all elders of the sect, but he never expected that this mentor would be a young Taoist with a handsome face and a long white robe.

The young Taoist stopped at the door, bowed, and said, "Master, Senior Brother Ying has been brought here."

The master said calmly, "Come in."

"Yes."

"Senior brother, please come in. I will wait outside."

Ying Chan nodded and entered the quiet room.

The young Taoist priest waited for him to enter, then gently closed the door behind him.

Ying Chan didn't turn his head, but walked up to his master and bowed respectfully: "Disciple greets master."

The master then slowly opened his eyes and said, "Please take a seat."

"Thank you, Master."

Ying Chan sat down on the futon as instructed, and then heard his master say, "Ying Chan, you have cultivated the Profound Light for 428 days in the Taoist academy, and yesterday you formally joined our sect?"

"Exactly."

The master nodded slightly: "Yesterday, the Daoist Records Office sent your information to Xuancheng Mountain."

"In the Taoist academy, is the 'One Yuan Qi Refining Scripture' being practiced?"

It should be explained that it is natural and proper.

"Good." Upon hearing this, the master nodded again: "You were able to cultivate this scripture, which shows that you have excellent comprehension. You were able to break through to the Profound Light realm within four hundred days, which shows that you have extraordinary talent."

Ying Chan hurriedly replied, "Master, you flatter me."

"I am not praising you."

The master said calmly, "This shows that you have enough talent to cultivate superior Taoist methods."

"Moreover, the 'One Yuan Qi Refining Scripture' that you cultivate is an integration of the wisdom of the sect's advanced cultivators. Once you cultivate the Profound Light through this scripture, you can learn many of the sect's profound methods in one go without any difficulty."

"Yes," Ying Chan said earnestly, "I would appreciate your guidance, Master."

"So that you may know in advance."

The master's voice and expression were slightly solemn: "In my Xuandu sect, there are eight great true teachings, namely the 'Three Classics and Five Books.' In addition, there are twelve superior Taoist methods."

"Three of the true scriptures are too lofty and can only be studied by those who have achieved the highest level of alchemy, so they are not under consideration."

"In addition, among the five books and twelve superior methods, there should be fourteen that are suitable for your practice."

"The Three Classics and Five Books, and the Twelve Gates of Supreme Dharma?"

Ying Chanzheng, who was naturally drawn to this place, was greatly surprised upon hearing it: "Disciple, may I be granted the highest teachings, even the Five Books?"

"Why do you think the Dao Academy has a ten-year term?"

The master said, "If one can cultivate the Profound Light within ten years, then for our sect, he is a seed of the Dao."

"What use is there in keeping our lineage's teachings if we don't pass them on to those destined to cultivate them?"

"However, don't be too happy yet."

He then changed the subject: "Cultivating superior Taoist techniques is by no means easy. If one does not grasp the true meaning, it may not necessarily be better for one's Taoist path than cultivating ordinary techniques."

"How many disciples does our sect have? Among them, those with superior foundations and excellent talents can all be taught the highest teachings, even the Five Books."

"But those who are not afraid of dangers and obstacles and achieve success in cultivation are less than one in a hundred or a thousand. Most give up halfway and turn to other techniques to seek hundreds of years of carefree life."

Ying Chan felt a slight chill run down his spine. "Alright," his mentor said, "Is there anything you still don't understand?"

Ying Chan hurriedly replied, "No."

"In that case, would you rather hear the true teachings first, or the superior Dharma first?"

When the moment finally arrived, even Ying Chan, who was usually calm, could not help but feel eager.

He composed himself and said solemnly, "This disciple wishes to first receive the true teachings."

The master smiled almost imperceptibly, and then said slowly, "Of the five true scriptures of our sect, four are suitable for your cultivation. They are:

The True Secret of Nourishing and Subduing the Primordial Essence
The True Secret of the Great Cavern of Mysterious Completion
The Great Yin Yang Immortal Sword Technique
The Precious Record of Myriad Dharmas and Profound Phenomena.

"Let me ask you one more question: are you willing to become a sword cultivator?"

Ying Chan replied, "This disciple has no intention of becoming a sword cultivator."

"In that case, we should remove the Great Yin Yang Immortal Evolution Sword Technique."

The master said slowly, "In addition, the 'True Secret of Nourishing and Subduing the Primordial Essence in the Profound Middle' emphasizes the cultivation of non-action. When practicing, one must attain 'non-seeking'."

"You were able to cultivate the Profound Light within four hundred days, which must have been due to your diligence and courage. This actually contradicts the 'True Technique of Nourishing the Primordial Essence in the Profound Center'."

"Therefore, I believe that you are not suitable for this true technique."

"Yes." Ying Chan thought for a moment and then said, "I will follow my teacher's teachings."

"Therefore, of these four true teachings, only the 'Mysterious and Wondrous Great Cave True Secret' and the 'Myriad Laws and Profound Images Precious Record' truly suit your needs."

"Among them, the 'Mysterious and Subtle Great Cavern True Secret' cultivates the Great Dao of Yin and Yang, and the 'Myriad Laws and Profound Phenomena Treasure Register' cultivates the return of all laws to oneness..."

The master explained the profound mysteries of the two true teachings in detail, and Ying Chan listened attentively, immediately falling into deep thought.

Upon seeing this, the master merely smiled faintly: "It seems there's no need to elaborate on the remaining ten methods?"

Ying Chan was slightly taken aback upon hearing this.

Ying Chan was actually very curious about the remaining ten gates, and even the twelve gates of the Dharma of this school, and had a desire to learn.

But he could also see clearly that since he had already received the true teachings of this sect, there was obviously no reason to choose another path.

Moreover, just hearing about these two true teachings has already made it difficult for him to choose. Listening to the rest of the teachings would only add to the confusion.

Therefore, Ying Chansi then said, "Yes, this disciple still wishes to choose one of the two true teachings to cultivate."

The master nodded and said, "One seeks simplicity, the other seeks complexity; the choice is entirely up to you."

Ying Chan closed his eyes and pondered.

The two texts, "The Great Cavern True Secret of the Mysterious Completion" and "The Precious Record of Myriad Laws and Mysterious Phenomena," are simple and complex, respectively, each with its own unique merits.

Seeking simplicity does not mean being simple or easy, but rather simplifying the complex and focusing on the great principles of Yin and Yang, and applying them consistently.

Seeking complexity does not mean creating chaos and disorder, but rather understanding all methods to reach the profound phenomena, ultimately achieving the state of moving from complexity to simplicity, that is, the unity of all methods.

From the perspective of spiritual practice, both of these true teachings are actually the best choices for Ying Chan.

However, in his heart, Ying Chan gradually leaned towards the "Myriad Laws and Profound Phenomena Precious Record".

From the moment he embarked on the path of cultivation, he had a single thought: to explore the vast and magnificent scenery of the Dao.

That's why he had no intention of becoming a sword cultivator, and for the same reason, he now wanted to embark on the 'Path of Myriad Laws' to see what it was like.

Think about this.

Ying Chan breathed a long sigh of relief, clearing his mind of all distractions, and then decisively said, "Please, Master, pass on to me the 'Myriad Laws and Profound Phenomena Precious Record'."

"Oh?"

The master said, "The path to the unity of all things is indeed a long and arduous one. Are you certain?"

Ying Chan solemnly replied, "This disciple is certain."

"good."

The mentor said with relief, "I hope you can forge ahead."
